Import chasing back-to-back wins

The training partnership of Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald is hopeful imported galloper Tyndrum Gold can land back-to-back wins at Doomben on Wednesday just one month after his first victory on Australian soil.

Tyndrum Gold arrived on our shores 12 months ago from the United Kingdom where he was a three-time winner at Kempton Park.

However, after his Australian debut in a 1550 metre Benchmark race at Canterbury in Sydney in May of last year he was quickly whisked off to Neasham and Archibald's Brisbane stable.

It took the five-year-old five starts in two campaigns before recording his first win in Queensland in a 1700 metre Class 5 Handicap at Ipswich in the middle of February.

The Ipswich win came after Tyndrum Gold resumed with a close fifth in a field of six in a 1400 metre Class 5 Handicap at the Sunshine Coast in January.

“He was a bit disappointing in his first campaign for us but it took him a fair while to acclimatise,” the team's assistant trainer in Brisbane Todd Pollard said. 

“He’s been going a lot better this preparation and his first-up run was very good.

“It was only a small field over 1400 metres and we rode him quiet when he should have gone forward.”

Pollard believes Tyndrum Gold, who tackles the Class 5 Handicap at Doomben on Wednesday, can measure up to Saturday grade in Brisbane but has no specific plans mapped out.

“We’ll just take him through his grades for the time being but we hope he’ll make a Saturday grader,” Pollard said.

Tyndrum Gold showed what he’s capable of with his last start win when he stepped up to 1700 metres at Ipswich.

“It was a good ride from Kyle Wilson-Taylor to win on him last time but Ryan Maloney is on this time,” Pollard said.

“Kyle has been riding him work a lot and his Tuesday work last week was very strong.

“We had him entered for Eagle Farm last Saturday but we scratched him after he drew bad.

“This looks a suitable race for him and he should be hard to beat.”

Tyndrum Gold was bought for an undisclosed amount by Neasham in the United Kingdom and his previous owners, the United Kingdom-based Opulence Thoroughbreds, retained a half-share.

“Opulence Thoroughbreds kept a half-share in him after Annabel bought him in England and the other half was syndicated here,” Pollard said.
