When questioned Mr. K Ellis trainer of MACNIVEK reported that he was satisfied with the greyhound’s performance in tonight’s event however, he was of the view that the track which was rain affected may have taken its toll on the greyhound’s stamina over the final 50m. He stated that it is his intention to continue racing MACNIVEK over the 600m as he is of the view that the greyhound will certainly find that distance. Stewards noted Mr. Ellis’s comments.
Race 8 – 3/4th Grade 520m
TORQUE FLIGHT and SPRING DREAM were best to begin. MACIE’S DINGO and ALPHA ADONIS were slow out. Approaching the turn out of the front straight MUM’S A LOONY was tightened for racing room, checked and lost ground. Rounding the turn out of the front straight SLAYER RETURN was checked for racing room, tightened and lost some ground.
The greyhound TORQUE FLIGHT was vetted and no apparent injuries were found. When questioned trainer Mr. A Kennewell explained that the greyhound usually begins well in races and leads as it did in tonight’s event and had a history of not finishing its races off strongly. He stated that when the track was rain affected he had concerns with the greyhound’s expectations in tonight’s event as it had not performed well previously on rain affected tracks. Of concerns to the stewards was that TORQUE FLIGHT had drifted from $2.80 to start $3.80 on fixed UBet tote. The inquiry was left open to allow stewards to further investigate betting on the event.
Race 9 – 5th Grade Heat 3 520m
The ‘all clear’ was delayed due to a malfunction of the photo finish allowing the judge to manually place all runners in the event. It was an even start. SUNNYSIDE JAY was slow to begin. Shortly after the start ALPHA THESUS shifted out which hampered CHADOR KHAN.
Race 10 – 5th Grade Heat 4 520m
