The greyhound KEYBOW performed a satisfactory Return to Racing Trial 3 over the distance of 431m in a time of 431m.
IMA COUNTY BOY was best to begin. MYSTERIOUS DREAM and ULTIMATE WINTER bumped shortly after the start. Approaching the turn into the back straight MAYWYN HEAPS crossed from a wide position tightening ULTIMATE WINTER onto MYSTERIOUS DREAM, onto IMA COUNTRY BOY, resulting in ULTIMATE WINTER and MYSTERIOUS DREAM losing ground. ULTIMATE WINTER checked across the heels of MYSTERIOUS DREAM and lost ground entering the back straight. Entering the home straight CULPER SPY shifted out resulting in GO FOR HOME being forced wide causing interference to CAP GUN who was checked and lost considerable ground and some inconvenience to SMAUG’S BOUNTY.
The
greyhound CAP GUN was vetted and found to have suffered an injury to the back
and was stood down for a period of 10 days.
Stewards advised trainer Mrs. C Dargusch that the greyhound CULPER SPY would be charged under Rule 69 (A) Failing to Pursue, 1st offence, 28 days plus a satisfactory stewards’ trial 431m all tracks.
BARCELLA was best to begin. STOLE MY HEART was slow to begin. FOCUS ME shifted in on the turn into the back straight tightening FULL BAMQUIN in onto STRAYA, resulting in FOCUS ME becoming unbalanced and STRAYA losing ground. THAT’S INSANE checked off the heels of FOCUS ME on the turn into the back straight. STRAYA was inconvenienced. ULTIMATE BOMBER checked off the heels of STOLE MY HEART and lost ground on the turn out of the back straight.
Race 3 – Novice 431m
BARBARINO’S BOY was best to begin. KAPALUA was very slow to begin. TIGER ILSE lost ground in the back straight and failed to finish the event.
The greyhound TIGER ILSE was vetted and no apparent injuries were found. Stewards advised trainer Mr. D Turley that the greyhound would be charged under Rule 69 (A) Failing to Pursue, 1st offence, 28 days plus a satisfactory stewards’ trial 431m all tracks.
Stewards questioned trainer Mr. C Byers in relation to the performance of KAPALUA in particular the start when the greyhound was very slow away. Mr. Byers could offer no tangible explanation as to the greyhound’s performance. Stewards advised Mr. Byers that the performance of the greyhound was bordering on unsatisfactory and that its future performances would be monitored.
Due to a severe thunderstorm including heavy lightning all races were put back 20 minutes.
Race 4 – Novice 431m
Prior to the start of this race a severe lightning strike appeared in close proximity to the track resulting in all power being lost. Subsequently the race meeting was abandoned at 5.10pm.
