Race 1: Bottlemart Malanda Maiden Plate 1000 metres:
1st – MILLI VANILLI 2nd – DECLAN STYLE 3rd – HAMUNAPTRA 4th – THE HURRICANE
MILLI VANILLI – Reluctant to proceed to the barriers delaying the start of the race. Began slowly after jumping awkwardly. Trainer Mr. S Massingham was advised that the filly would be required to complete one successful barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.
DECLAN STYLE – Fractious in the barriers.
TURBO DIESEL – Slowly into stride.
DRAGON TALE – Commenced to hang out near the 700 metres taking another runner wider on the track. Continued to hang out for the remainder of the event placing its rider at a severe disadvantage. Trainer Mr. R Baker was advised that the mare would be required to complete one successful barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.
Race 2: 1911 Restaurant Benchmark 65 Handicap 1000 metres:
1st – INSIDE PAGE 2nd – SIZZLEON 3rd – DAZZLE ON 4th – GLAURUNG
Stewards delayed the declaration of correct weight at the request of Jockey W D’Avila the rider of DAZZLE ON who wished to view the patrol footage in order to determine whether or not he had grounds to lodge an objection against SIZZLEON ridden by Jockey S Wilson being declared 2nd placegetter. After viewing the footage Jockey D’Avila elected not to proceed with the objection and correct weight was declared on the judges placings.
GINGA GAL – Fractious in the barriers. Was removed and examined by the Veterinarian and cleared to take its place in the field. Began awkwardly. On straightening was reluctant to hold its position when another runner improved to its inside.
BESIEGED – Bumped with another runner soon after the start.
GLAURUNG – Fractious in the barriers. Bumped with another runner soon after the start.
SIZZLEON – Bumped with another runner soon after the start. Shifted in under pressure near the 200 metres inconveniencing another runner. Rider S Wilson was issued with a severe reprimand under the provisions of AR137(a), careless riding, and was instructed to stop riding and straighten his mount under similar circumstances.
DAZZLE ON – Bumped with another runner soon after the start. Shifted out soon after straightening in an attempt to obtain clear running. Had to be restrained off heels when another runner shifted in under pressure near the 200 metres.
Race 3: Tom English Memorial Benchmark 50 Handicap 1100 metres:
1st – ROAD FOX 2nd – BIG TOMEE 3rd – GENERAL BEEJAY 4th – SECRETS OWN
FALSE ALARM – Was reluctant to proceed to the barriers delaying the start of the race. Trainer Ms. S Molino was advised the mare would be required to complete one successful barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.
BIG TOMEE – Made contact with another runner on jumping.
JUMBO RUMBO - Made contact with another runner on jumping.
ROAD FOX - Made contact with another runner on jumping.
SECRETS OWN - Made contact with another runner on jumping.
GENERAL BEEJAY – Had to be steadied off heels near the 750 metres and again near the 500 metres.
Race 4: Spar Malanda Class 3 Plate 1200 metres:
1st – TESTAMYCOLOURS 2nd – SPIRITED SAINT 3rd – PROUD WARRIOR 4th – DRAGON HART
SPIRITED SAINT – Slowly away.
TESTAMYCOLOURS – Slowly into stride.
DRAGON HART – Had to be restrained off heels near the 1000 metres.
PROUD WARRIOR – Jockey C Lennon was issued with a charge under the provisions of AR137A in that he struck his mount 17 times and in consecutive strides prior to the 100 metres. Upon assessing penalty Stewards took into account Jockey Lennon’s poor record in relation to the rule and the seriousness of the breach. Stewards suspended Jockey Lennon’s license to ride in races for a period covering 2 meetings to commence on the 18th January up to and including 23rd January 2016.
Race 5: Malanda Hotel Benchmark 60 Handicap 1400 metres:
1st – PRESSUM 2nd – JAMALKA 3rd – IDLE SITUATION 4th – LIDEEM
JAMALKA – Slowly away.
LIDEEM – Slowly away.
PRESSUM – Slowly away and commenced to over-race for a short distance after the start.
HELOW TUCKER – Commenced to race ungenerously near the 1200 metres and hung out rounding the first turn placing App.M Kai at a severe disadvantage. Trainer Mr. R Finch was advised that the gelding would be required to complete one successful barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.
After viewing the patrol footage of the start Stewards were comfortably satisfied that all runners had been afforded a fair start.
