GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today's meeting:
Race 5 – EYELEFTIT – B. Lerena +0.5kg (56kg)
Race 8 – REACHOVER – W. O’Connell +1kg (55kg)
Race 1: TAB WE'RE ON CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE 2450M
GLENRAY'S MATE – Change of tactics; to be further forward. Raced forward and lead the event in the early and middle stages.
KENSHIN MARU – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide for the majority.
MERLIN'S MELODY (IRE) – Approaching the 1200m, commenced to over race and shifted wider.
SPANISH FIGHTER – Slow to begin.
MAD ANA – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
POLLY PRINCESS – Jockey M. Wishart was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(C) for using her whip when her mount is out of contention.
Race 2: TAB BETS FRIENDS MAIDEN PLATE 1400M
KING OF THE LOCHS – Shifted and stood on its off-fore plate in the tie-up stalls and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 12:25pm on Veterinary advice. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on KING OF THE LOCHS be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st SAMMAAN CITY – 0c the win, 2c the place
2nd ALMALIKAT SARAH – 4c the place
3rd WILL IT SNOW – 3c the place
Trainer’s representative S. Drake was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
GREEN CHAI – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 400m, raced greenly for a short distance and was inclined to shift ground.
SAMMAAN CITY – Cast its near-hind plate in running.
PEAK MISS – Bumped on jumping.
SHAMIC – Slow to begin.
ALMALIKAT SARAH – Bumped on jumping.
SHADES OF SUMMER – Trainer B. Ahrens advised that after today’s performance, it is the intention to now retire the filly.
Race 3: VALE PAULA D'ADDONA MAIDEN PLATE 1400M
GRUNT 'N' GROAN – Near the 400m, momentarily steadied when racing tight to the inside of PROVEN RECORD. Jockey G. Walters reported his mount raced greenly throughout.
SEKI – Raced wide throughout.
JUSTAFEVER – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Rounding the home turn, became unbalanced after being contacted on the hindquarters by PROVEN RECORD.
OUR ESPRIT – Shortly after the start, lost its nearside winker.
BARBIE STAR – Tightened for room at the start. Taken wider near the 600m and raced wide from that point onwards.
PROVEN RECORD (NZ) – Rounding the home turn, made contact with the hindquarters of JUSTAFEVER.
MOONLIGHT KICKS – Change of tactics; to be more forward. Settled in a midfield position. Near the 600m, whilst racing keenly, improved onto heels and shifted out, taking BARBIE STAR wider. Near the 400m, when attempting to improve, was disappointed for a run between SEKI and BARBIE STAR and had to be steadied. Cast its off-fore plate in running.
Race 4: AQUIS STALLIONS CLASS 3 PLATE 1200M
MISHANI GANGSTER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
NAILS AND PRIDE – Near the 1000m, shifted out and bumped MISS ZERMATT.
LIETUVA – Laid out rounding the home turn. Approaching the winning post, steadied when tightened for room between NIGHTCAPPED and MISHANI GANGSTER (apprentice T. Orr) which laid in under pressure. Apprentice T. Orr was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident and advised to stop riding and straighten his mount in similar circumstances.
BERRY FOXIE – Raced three-wide without cover throughout.
MISS ZERMATT – Near the 1000m, bumped by NAILS AND PRIDE. Raced wide throughout. Jockey L. Tilley advised it was his intention to lead however the mare did not muster early speed and he was obliged to settle in a midfield position.
GIDDAY GIDDAY – Apprentice K. Lenton advised it was her intention to lead however the mare did not muster early speed and she was obliged to race at the rear of the field.
LA SOEUR – Resaddled on arrival at the barriers.
ROCKETEER GIRL – Raced four-wide without cover throughout.
Race 5: BEAUDESERT CUP 16 AUGUST SAVE THE DATE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1400M
ALLHALLOWTIDE (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
ARCHERS REIGN – Stewards opened an inquiry into the riding tactics of Jockey J. Morris. After taking initial evidence from Jockey J. Morris and Trainer J. Sweeney, Stewards adjourned the inquiry to examine all aspects of the race, including the wagering. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities other than a physiological murmur on oscillation.
BAROCCO BAR – Raced wide throughout.
QUEST OF QUESTS – Blundered on jumping.
EYELEFTIT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having not raced since April 2023 and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Momentarily steadied near the 400m when racing tight to the inside of UNDER THE PALAIS.
MANHATTAN DRESS – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey N. Masuda advised the filly today which was up in class, may be better suited to tracks with more give in them. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
Race 6: AQUIS HOME OF THE 2YO SPEED RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1400M
The start of this race was delayed approximately 3 minutes due to a loading error which necessitated runners having to be backed out and reloaded.
CLIPPER SHIP – Rounding the home turn, raced in restricted room and then shortly thereafter had to be checked from the heels of IRISH GYPSY after being taken in by GRANDCOEUR which was awkwardly placed on the heels of ANCIENT MISSION which was steadied when racing in restricted room.
THE WELLIAN – Raced wide throughout.
VACILLATION – Slow to begin. Laid in rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the home straight.
DESERT LEGEND – Jockey C. Graham advised her mount was required to do some work in the early stages to comply with her instructions to lead, and then shortly after the gelding commenced to race keenly which she felt had a detrimental effect on the overall performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.
PRETTY RHO – Raced in restricted room near the 400m to the inside of ANCIENT MISSION which after shifting out, shifted back in. Rounding the home turn, attempted to savage ANCIENT MISSION and then a short distance later shifted out. Leaving the 100m, again attempted to savage VACILLATION. Trainer R. Chatterton was advised that the mare would be required to officially trial prior to next racing.
STAR SEEKER – Commenced to weaken leaving the 600m and was eased down in the home straight. Trainer K. Devine was advised that the mare would be required to officially trial prior to next racing.
AIMA SUN – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
SHALMUM – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ANCIENT MISSION – Slow to begin. Near the 200m, was steadied when tightened for room between PRETTY RHO, which shifted out rounding the home turn, taking ANCIENT MISSION out onto the heels of VACILLATION which also shifted in whilst laying in. Stewards, when considering the incident, could not attribute blame to any one rider and took the matter no further other than advising Jockey A. Thompson to exercise more care and straighten his mounts sooner when laying in.
GRANDCOEUR – Raced in restricted room near the 400m. Near the 200m, raced in restricted room and was taken in by ANCIENT MISSION.
Race 7: TAB FASTER VISION OPEN HANDICAP 1650 M
BADGERS NUTS (NZ) – Bumped with FLASHING STEEL near the 200m.
FLASHING STEEL – Hung out rounding the home turn. Bumped with BADGERS NUTS near the 200m. Jockey A. Mallyon reported that the gelding hung out for the majority of the race and when continuing to hang out in the home straight, had proved difficult to ride out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
TYNDRUM GOLD (GB) – Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported that his mount raced keenly throughout the event which he believed had a detrimental effect on the overall disappointing performance.
SELLING SUNSET – Slow to begin.
Race 8: TAB CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1650M
AMBASSADORS – Change of tactics; To lead if circumstances permit. Settled in a midfield position. Jockey T. Marshall advised that his mount failed to show early speed and was unable to lead as per his instructions. He added that he was unable to explain the performance. Stewards will follow up with the stable.
CANADIAN EXPRESS – Slow to begin.
FRIEND IN NEED – Began awkwardly.
KATDEEL – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Bumped HUSSON’S REVENGE rounding the home turn.
BEAT HOLLOW – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having started at Gatton on 23rd of May 2025 and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Jockey D. Turner advised he did not believe the gelding handled the short backup. Jockey D. Turner pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR211(1) for returning to scale in excess of 0.5kg overweight and was fined $100. In determining penalty, Stewards considered the particular circumstances and D. Turner’s good record in relation to this rule.
HUSSON'S REVENGE – Raced wide throughout. Bumped rounding the home turn and became unbalanced.
SPILLS – Blundered at the start. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, steadied from the heels of BEAT HOLLOW (D. Turner) which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey D. Turner was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
QUADRI (NZ) – Near the 700m, checked and made contact with the running rail when tightened for room by KATDEEL (K. Wilson-Taylor) which whilst racing keenly, improved onto heels and shifted in. Stewards when considering the racing manners of KATDEEL and the circumstances of the incident, could not attribute blame to any one rider and took the matter no further. Jockey J. Taylor advised that due to the interference that his mount received at the 700m, he then elected to ease his mount out of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer B. Robinson advised it is his intention for mare to leave his stable.
REACHOVER – Steadied when racing in restricted room approaching the winning post on the first occasion.
TERMITE – Raced wide throughout.
