STEWARDS REPORT
GOLD COAST TURF CLUB – AQUIS BEAUDESERT
TUESDAY 8 JULY 2025
WEATHER – Fine
TRACK RATING – Good 4
RAIL – True Entire Course
PENETROMETER – 4.6
OFFICIALS
Stewards – S. Fletcher (Chair); B. Wright, D. McMahon, E. Scott; L. De Witt – Rowson (Asst. Steward)
GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 7: 11 MIGRATORY +1kg (55kg)
Race 7: 14e STAR CHANCE +1kg (55kg)
Trainer D. Vandyke was severely reprimanded pursuant to LR 68(1) for failing to scratch KENNY THE BAKER (Race 2) by the prescribed time. In assessing penalty, account was taken into D. Vandyke’s forthright evidence, record and circumstances surrounding the late scratching.
Trainer D.S. Bowen was severely reprimanded pursuant to LR 68(1) for failing to scratch AUSTRALASIA (Race 3) by the prescribed time. In assessing penalty, account was taken into D. Bowen’s clear record regarding this rule.
As Apprentice B. Wheeler was unable to make the allocated weight on SHORE TO HAPPEN (Race 7), he was replaced as per the race day summary. Apprentice B. Wheeler was fined $750 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride and found to be overweight. In determining penalty, Stewards considered B. Wheeler’s poor record in relation to this rule.
RACE 1: TAB WE'RE ON MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by Apprentice B. Wheeler the rider of the third placed CAPTAIN EAGLE against KING OF MINTO (J. Stanley) being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. On the evidence, Stewards found that near the 150m, KING OF MINTO shifted out resulting in CAPTAIN EAGLE having to be severely checked. However; bearing in mind where the interference occurred, the beaten margin of 3 ½ lengths, and how both horses ran to the line, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference to CAPTAIN EAGLE not occurred, that horse would have finished ahead of KING OF MINTO at the end of the race and therefore dismissed the objection, with correct weight given on the judge’s numbers.
Subsequently, rider J. Stanley (KING OF MINTO) was charged with careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a), in that near the 150m he failed to make sufficient effort to correct his mount when it was shifting ground when not clear of CAPTAIN EAGLE, which was checked severely, and WITNESS DIS being severely checked from the heels of CAPTAIN EAGLE, shifting out, bumping VIDEO VIXEN and blundering. Rider J. Stanley pleaded not guilty to the charge and made further submissions, particularly the abruptness of the shift from KING OF MINTO, which was having its first race start, and his response to attempt to correct the gelding when shifting out. After consideration of all the evidence, Stewards felt the charge could not be sustained and found him not guilty. Trainer L. Kelly was advised KING OF MINTO would be required to Officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before being permitted to race again.
BARGARA BOUND – Slow to begin. Trainer O. Cairns reported the gelding had a minor laceration to its near foreleg.
CAPTAIN EAGLE – Leaving the 600m, improved onto the heels of KING OF MINTO and was steadied. Checked severely near the 150m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have minor lacerations left hind leg consistent with being galloped on.

Champkin) being placed second, alleging interference from the 200m. On the evidence, Stewards found that inside the 100m, GRAND CRUSADER shifted out brushing THE WELLIAN, however; bearing in mind where the interference occurred, the head margin, could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference to THE WELLIAN not occurred, that horse would have finished ahead of GRAND CRUSADER at the end of the race and therefore dismissed the objection, with correct weight given on the judge’s numbers.

WHISTLING SPIRIT – Began awkwardly. Hampered near the 150m. Rider B. Lerena (WONFORWAZZA), pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a), in that he failed to make sufficient effort approaching the 150m to prevent his mount from shifting in when not clear of WHISTLING SPIRIT (T. Brooker), with that gelding being carried in onto CONEY ISLAND BABY (R. Jamieson), resulting in WHISTLING SPIRIT being hampered and CONEY ISLAND BABY eased, when tightened for room. B.
