GENERAL

Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting:
Race 1 – MOONLIGHT KICKS – M. Murphy +1kg (56kg)
Race 1 – ROCKRATA – D. Smith +1kg (55kg)
 
Trainer A. Chau was fined $200 pursuant to LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch dual acceptor ZAYYANO by the prescribed time. When determining penalty, Stewards took into account the time the dual acceptor was scratched and Trainer A. Chau’s good record in relation to this rule.
 
Trainer R. Tyrell was fined $200 pursuant to LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch dual acceptor SAVE THE ROSES by the prescribed time. When determining penalty, Stewards took into account the time the dual acceptor was scratched and Trainer R. Tyrell’s good record in relation to this rule.
 
Trainer M. Dunn was fined $100 pursuant to LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch dual acceptor AUTUMN MISS by the prescribed time. When determining penalty, Stewards took into account the time the dual acceptor was scratched and Trainer M. Dunn’s good record in relation to this rule.
 
 
RACE 1: THE CLUB BEAUDESERT CLASSIC COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP 1200M

LITTLE VISTA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Near the 700m and again approaching the 600m, was bumped by BALTRAY (A. McColm) which was racing tight. Apprentice A. McColm was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

QUEST OF QUESTS – Approaching the 600m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running near the 100m.
 
BALTRAY – Raced wide throughout. Near the 700m bumped and became unbalanced when racing tight with LITTLE VISTA. Again bumped with LITTLE VISTA near the 600m. Bumped ROCKRATA near the 400m. Apprentice A. McColm was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race. Stewards when determining penalty, took into consideration Apprentice McColm’s limited race riding experience.
 
CHAYSE 'N' LEISA – Began awkwardly.
 
CAPTAIN INSANO – Stewards permitted the gelding to race in blinkers instead of the declared visors. Trainer J. Smerdon was fined $100 pursuant to AR106(1) for presenting the gelding without visors. Slow to begin.
 
COINCIDE – Slow to begin.
 
EXOSTOVA – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
BEE EXACT – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
ZOODOO – Began awkwardly.
 
ITZA MOTZA – Crowded for room shortly after start. Approaching the winning post, improved close to heels and went to the line without being fully tested.
 
MOONLIGHT KICKS – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
ROCKRATA – Raced wide throughout. Bumped by BALTRAY near the 400m.
 
 
RACE 2: CLUB BEAUDESERT PUNT & PINT CLASS 1 PLATE 2450M

METCALFE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey D. Peisley was fined $100 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides on two separate occasions prior to the 100m.
 
SMELTER (IRE) – Slow into stride. Caught wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to obtain a leading position near the 1800m. When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted, specifically in leading today’s race which was in contrast to its most recent races, Jockey D. Boutet stated the gelding was up in distance today and it was the intention to race in a forward position as the gelding has not been finishing its races off. He added that although the gelding was slow into stride, as it has been in its previous starts, it was always his intention to be forward and for this reason, he rode the gelding to obtain the leading position near the 1800m. He further added that the gelding raced comfortably and finished off the race well. Trainer N. Luke when questioned confirmed the instructions, adding that they have been the same instructions as its previous starts this preparation, however the gelding has been unable to obtain a forward position due to being slow to begin. Nonetheless trainer N. Luke was reminded of her obligations under AR100(1)(a) to advise if it is the intention for the gelding to be ridden in a manner different to its most recent starts.
 
PELLINOR – Raced wide in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ALASKA DE LUNE – Raced wide in the middle stages.
 
LITTLE LUNCH (NZ) – Held up for clear running from near the 350m until near the 200m.
 

RACE 3: LACHLAN HUGHES FAMILY MAIDEN HANDICAP 1650M

WHATEVER YOU THINK – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MUM ON RUM – Raced wide throughout.
 
ZAYYANO (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
SONIC FLYER – Made the crossing near the 1100m awkwardly.
 
THE MESSIAH – Shifted wider near the 800m and was allowed to stride to obtain the leading position near the 700m.
 
BLOOD RED – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide for the majority
 
BOLD BEAUTY – Resaddled on arrival at the barriers. Bumped shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
FIVE OF US  – Raced keenly in the early stages and was steadied near the 1300m after improving onto heels. Shifted wider near the 700m to improve.
 
SHE'S A FIZZ – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages and was steadied near the 1300m after improving onto heels.
 

RACE 4: THE OLIVER & BETTY PLUNKETT MEMORIALS CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1400M

SMART ACTION – Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
SAVAII – Near the 700m, steadied from the heels of LONE FORCE (J. Lloyd) which after crossing, eased the pace. Jockey J. Lloyd was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Held up for clear running approaching the home turn.
 
LONE FORCE – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Lloyd stated that he was required to pressure his mount in the early stages to obtain a forward position, which he believes had a detrimental effect on its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
MERCHANT LADY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
TREASURER – Raced wide from the 600m.
 
 
RACE 5: HUGHESY'S LEGACY QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400M
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow Apprentice A. McColm and the connections of BOSS LOGIC to view the Stewards footage of the concluding stages and the official photo finish. After deciding not to proceed with an objection, correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.

BOSS LOGIC – Approaching the winning post, improved close to the heels of MILDURA LAD and had to be steadied.

MARITIMO – Eased out of the race near the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils on the first occasion. Trainer D. Murphy was advised that the gelding would now incur a 3 month ban from racing and would be required to gallop/trial 1000m to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
 
LEICA LEMON – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after becoming fractious in the barriers and was subsequently cleared to race. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
ROTH QUEEN – Slow to begin and failed to muster speed in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainers representative was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly for being uncompetitive.
 
OAKFIELD MONTANA – Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
Following the running of this race, Jockey M. Murphy reported that he struck his left knee leaving the barriers and was experiencing some discomfort.

 
RACE 6: LACHLAN HUGHES MEMORIAL FILLIES & MARES RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP 1200M
 
Following a heavy shower prior to the running of race 6, Stewards inspected the track and downgraded it to a soft 6.
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of PRIVATE SHOWTIME to view the Stewards footage of the concluding stages. After deciding not to proceed with an objection, correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.
 
ESPRIT DU JOUR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight and approaching the winning post shifted in and bumped PRIVATE SHOWTIME which shifted out at the same point
 
SO BE INSPIRED – Raced wide throughout. Approaching the winning post shied and shifted out.
 
DIVAS REIGN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having not raced for an extended period and was cleared to start.
 
STORMSTOUT – Began awkwardly.
 
PRIVATE SHOWTIME – Approaching the winning post, shifted out and bumped ESPRIT DU JOUR which shifted in at the same point.
 
EXCEED THE SKY – Raced wide throughout.
 
Following the running of this race, the track was downgraded to a soft 7.
 

RACE 7: DIGGERS CUP BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1650M

NOTABADJACKUP (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Became unbalanced leaving the 1000m. Eased down from the 400m. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey D. Peisley advised the gelding failed to handle todays track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SUPRENDRE – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey D. Smith stated the mare travelled comfortably until the 600m, however when placed under pressure, failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. He added that SUPRENDRE may have held its breath and suggested to trainer P. Bobic the addition of a tongue tie.
 
ARCHERS REIGN – Change of tactics; to lead if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
 
MAURITA – Change of tactics; to be further forward if circumstances permit. Raced in a midfield position.
 
Following the running of this race, the track was downgraded to a Heavy 8.
 
 
RACE 8: BEAUDESERT HIBERNIAN RACEDAY 23 MAY CLASS 2 PLATE 1650M

BOLE LE – Bumped on jumping and became unbalanced. Jockey J. Lloyd was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race.
 
KEEP IT LOKI – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Apprentice A. McColm was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race.
 
LOCH AWE – Bumped on jumping. Obliged to alter course when disappointed for a run near the 150m.
 
MARAGICAL – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, raced in restricted room and was steadied between LOU VEGA and BOLE LE (J. Lloyd) which shifted in when not clear. Jockey J. Lloyd was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in this incident. Eased down from the 400m. Cast its off fore plate. Jockey G. Cartwright stated that the mare was not suited to todays track conditions and when placed under pressure from the 600m, didn’t respond to her riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg and have a slow recovery. Trainer’s representative was advised that the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
SAVE THE ROSES – Raced wide for majority of the race. When asked to comment on the performance jockey D. Smith advised the gelding wasn’t suited to todays track conditions.
 
LOU VEGA – Leaving the home straight on the first occasion, raced keenly with its head up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils on the first occasion. Trainer D. Murphy was advised that the gelding would now incur a 3 month ban from racing and would be required to gallop/trial 1000m to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
