GENERAL
Trainer R. Beaton was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare the rider of FORTUNEER by the prescribed time.
Trainer R. Davidson was severely reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare the rider of HELL OF A PRINCE by the prescribed time. When determining penalty, Stewards considered Trainer Davidson’s good record in relation to this rule.
Trainer J. Dunn was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare the rider of GERRY’S PICK by the prescribed time.
Trainer M. Brosnan was fined $100 purusant to LR67(1) for failing to declare the rider of CALVARY by the prescribed time.
RACE 1:BURKE CONSTRUCTIONS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1400M
OOMPA – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped ROTH QUEEN. Raced wide throughout.
BE THY NAME – Bumped at the start with MISTER BLAZE. Passing the 1200m, raced in restricted room. Momentarily held up near the 150m and shifted in to obtain clear running.
DWAYNETHEROC – Resaddled behind the barriers. Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout
NAVY KISS – Bumped on jumping.
WORTHY WAY – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages.
MISHANI UNDERCOVER – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
ROTH QUEEN – Slow to begin and then bumped by OOMPA.
YELLOW CRATE – Began awkwardly and was bumped shortly after the start. Near the 250m momentarily inconvenienced when MISHANI UNDERCOVER shifted out to improve.
MISTER BLAZE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having not started for an extended period and was cleared to start. Bumped at the start with BE THY NAME. Leaving the 1200m raced in restricted room and was steadied from the heels of NAVY KISS (D. Turner) which shifted in marginally. Jockey D. Turner was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Raced wide throughout.
POLYESTER GIRL – Slow to begin. Leaving the 200m, raced in restricted room and had to be steadied when ROTH QUEEN (C. Bennett) shifted in to the inside of the heels of BE THY NAME. Jockey C. Bennett was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
WAITING FOR GRAHAM – Jockey B. Ainsworth reported it wasn’t her intension to lead, however after being caught wide in the early stages she rode her mount forward to obtain a position closer to the rail. She added that the gelding was required to do a fair bit of work to obtain that position which she believes was detrimental to its finishing efforts.
ROTATE – Raced wide throughout. Leaving the 800m, whilst racing keenly improved onto heels and shifted out momentarily.
RACE 2:DG BUILDING CONCEPTS HIBERNIAN CUP CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1200M
PARETO – Began awkwardly.
BRUCKHEIMER – Jockey N. Heywood reported his mount didn’t travel comfortably and was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn. Jockey Heywood was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race.
FORTUNEER – Raced wide until the 600m.
KEIKO SAY – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
SURE START – Raced keenly in the early stages.
RACE 3:HH CIVIL GROUP BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1100M
MR WANDJI – Leaving the 100m, obliged to shift out to obtain clear running.
SMACKEROONY –Leaving the 900m, raced in restricted room. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
BOOYA BOY – Leaving the 900m laid in and away from DRIALLE. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey C. Bennett could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
DECEITFUL MISS – Leaving the 900m, steadied when tightened for room to the inside of SMAKEROONY, which was taken in by BOOYA BOY which laid in and away from DRIALLE.
RACE 4:SURFACE PROJECTS BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1100M
PAPARACHA – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice B. Baker could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be coughing. Trainer A. Campton was advised the gelding will require a veterinary clearance, inclusive with the results of an endoscopic examination prior to resuming.
SO BE INSPIRED – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide until passing the 600m. Apprentice A. McColm was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out fully to the end of the race.
CAUSEWAYS – Slow to begin and then bumped shortly after the start. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer V. Venkaya reported the gelding’s first up run, it was eased down in the home straight by its rider. Today, which was his second start with CAUSEWAYS, the gelding was down in class from its last start and with the removal of the nose roll and addition of winkers to its gear, he was expecting an improved performance.
GERRY'S PICK – Slow to muster early speed.
BEAN BALL – Resaddled behind the barriers. Bumped at start. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey K. Zechner reported his mount wasn’t suited by today’s track conditions.
CALVARY – Bumped at the start. Leaving the 200m, inconvenienced and then taken wider when SO BE INSPIRED (App. A. McColm) shifted out under pressure. Apprentice A. McColm was reminded of his obligations to stop riding and straighten his mounts sooner when shifting ground.
NO DOUBLE DIPPING – Raced wide throughout.
ZOU DOLL – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
ALBION SQUARE (GB – Shifted out on jumping and bumped CALVARY.
RACE 5:BOWKETT EARTHMOVING BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1400M
CHICAGO KING – Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn. Near the 200m bumped with CHAYSE ‘N’ LEISA
CHAYSE 'N' LEISA – Near the 200m bumped with CHICAGO KING.
TAKUNAI – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
KEEP IT LOKI – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
BADDA BOOM BABY – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in todays event, Jockey N. Heywood advised his instructions were to be positive on the mare and ideally settle in a position in the first 4. Jockey Heywood said that after beginning well, and when not much intention was shown by other runners to take up the lead, he allowed his mount to stride forward to lead the race. He added that when placed under pressure the mare felt one paced and was disappointing. When questioned, Trainer R. Beaton advised she was surprised to see the mare leading the event, adding that her instructions given were to ideally be in a position 4th or 5th with cover, as previously the horse has switched off in its races when travelling at the rear of the field. She added that the mare isn’t suited to leading and that won’t be the intention going forward. Nonetheless trainer R. Beaton was reminded of her obligations under AR100(1)(a) to advise if it is the intention for the mare to be ridden in a manner different to its most recent starts.
DIVAS REIGN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 400m, raced in restricted room between DECARBONISE and ZHONGXIN KOALA which rolled in marginally. Held up for clear running from entering the home straight until approaching the 100m.
DECARBONISE – Jockey D. Turner could offer no explanation for the poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Gilmore advised that consideration would be placed into the immediate future racing plans of DECARBONISE.
RACE 6:EZY KITCHENS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1650M
THE CATCH – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
CAPTAIN INSANO – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout.
HURRICANE ROSIE – Began awkwardly.
BRUTAL SUE – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Apprentice B. Osmond reported the mare didn’t travel comfortably on today’s track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
MOET AT MIDNIGHT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey N. Tomizawa reported the gelding wasn’t suited to today’s track conditions.
PAPAL MISS – Near the 200m, was inconvenienced and taken in across the heels of BENFICA LASS by CAFE MOCHA (F. Larson) which shifted in when not clear. Jockey F. Larson was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
