WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING –  SOFT – DIRT- RAIL – TRUE

OFFICIALS
Chairman of Stewards – T Preston
Stewards – W Glass

GENERAL
Horses declared as late scratching’s by order of Stewards at 8.00am due to no rider being available as per the Stewards Summary. Stewards conducted breath samples of licencees at today’s race meeting. Stewards opened and adjourned an inquiry into a matter that occurred after the running of race 1 between Trainers W and C Baker allowing Stewards to gather further evidence.

RACE 1: CWRC 26-27 MEMBERSHIPS BM 45 HANDICAP 1000M

PLEA- Laid in early stages. Dictated in marginally leaving the 850m tightening SPANISH RAGE with the rider of that horse having ease.

PONTOON PRINCE- Began awkwardly and bumped with ZOUPHISTICATE shortly after the start. Laid in marginally at the 850m.

SPANISH RAGE- Drifted back shortly after the start was affected. The rider was forced to ease leaving the 850m when tightened between runners. Raced towards the rear for the majority of the event despite the best efforts of the rider to improve into the race.

LADY DUTTON- Tended to lay in during the early stages and then again in the home straight. Rolled out marginally at the 850m.

ZOUPHISTICATE- Began awkwardly and bumped with another runner as the start was affected. Laid out marginally at the 100m crowding MISS RAPIDE.

MISS RAPIDE- Raced wide for the majority, Crowded for a short distance at approximately the 100m.

RACE 2: MELBOURNE CUP CALCUTTA 2ND NOV BM65 HANDICAP 1000M

TRANSCELTIC- Slow to begin.

KAT CHINNA- Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in while racing in the home straight before being corrected by the rider.

WON FOR VICKI- Began well and led the field up to the 300m and began to weaken while racing in the home straight. Stewards ordered a post-race veterinary examination of the mare for its seemingly disappointing performance at today’s meeting. This examination revealed poor recovery with the increased respiratory effort. After consultation with the attending Veterinarian no Vet clearance was ordered.

DUSAN- Lost off rear shoe in running.

ZA HIDDEN DRAGON- Raced towards the rear of the field for the majority.

RACE 3: IN MEMORY OF WILLY TONER BM58 HANDICAP 1200M

VELOCE METEOR- Raced wide for the majority of the event.

PINS AND NEEDLES- Raced wide for the majority of the event. Approximately the 200m rolled out marginally bumping VELOCE METEROR.

DREYFUS- Weakened badly over the final 150m of the race. Stewards ordered a post- race veterinary examination of the gelding for the seemingly poor performance at today’s meeting. This examination revealed it to be lame in the off foreleg. Stewards spoke with Jockey T Banks who advised he was disappointed with the run, after beginning well and he was travelling well up to the top of the straight when it began to hang out, failing to improve from the 200m point. Jockey Banks when question of his handling of the horse over the final 100m stated that he felt the horse’s run had ended and he didn’t want to pressure it unnecessarily. Stewards noted Jockey Bank’s comments and reminded him of his obligation under AR131(b) to ensure he rides his mount out to the line. Trainer G Bignell was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the gelding returning to racing.

TITAHI BAY Proved difficult to load as a result Stewards placed a Warning on the horse. Raced towards the rear of the field for the majority of the event.  Failed to improve into the race despite the best efforts of the rider. Trainer M Gavin advised Stewards that she was disappointed with the mare’s performance, and she would be leaving her stables in coming days. Had raced wide for the majority of the event.

BUGDEN- Slow to begin.

RACE 4: TONY FACEY MEMORIAL QTIS CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1200M

ZOUCHASE- Stewards accepted Trainer M Gavin’s submission for a change of gear in that the approved gear Blinkers be removed for this race meeting. Stewards permitted the change of gear and acting under the provision of AR206 issued a monetary penalty of $100 for her failure to declare a change of gear by the prescribed time.

MALARINA- Approaching the 200m was inconvenienced when TOUGH JUDGE and BOSS BANDIT shifted in and out respectively.

BOSS BANDIT- Shifted out at the    m point resulting in MALARINA being inconvenienced. As a result of the incident Stewards acting under the provision of AR131(a) issued Apprentice Jockey Z Hunt with a Reprimand for Careless Riding in that she shifted out when not fully clear of MALARINA.

TOUGH JUDGE- Approaching the 200m shifted in causing inconvenience MALARINA. Stewards acting under the provision of AR131(a) issued a Reprimand to Apprentice Jockey H Saunders for permitting her mount to shift in when not fully clear of MALARINA.

ABLE SEANMAN- Slow to begin.

SEEYA LATER GATER- Raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. Failed to improve into the race despite the best efforts of the rider.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing Jockey D Evans an opportunity to view the race footage and in consultation with Trainer M Gavin lodged an objection into TOUGH JUDGE being declared 2nd placing ahead of his mount MALARINA which finished in 3rd position. Jockey Evans stated his grounds for the objection alleging interference from the 200m. After hearing all the evidence submitted by all parties and after viewing the footage available Stewards considered the official margin of ¾ of a length, the proximity of the interference to the winning post, that Jockey D Evans was able to ride his mount out to the line, and in the opinion of Stewards MALARINA would not have finished in front of TOUGH JUDGE had the interference not occurred. Stewards dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the numbers as semaphored by the Judges.

RACE 5: $3000 FOTF CHARLEVILLE CUP 3RD NOV OPEN PLATE 1000M

MISTREY EMPEROR- A pre-race Veterinary examination was undertaken by order of Stewards, the gelding was subsequently passed fit to start at today’s meeting. Slow to begin.

On returning to the mounting yard Jockey T Banks reported that his mount was on the verge of collapsing.
