SPORTSBET MAREEBA TURF CLUB – SATURDAY 23RD MAY 2026
RACE 2: TRADE MUTT QTIS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1123 Metres

TALK DIRTY – Trainer Ms. L. Terzi subsequently advised stewards that following a further veterinary examination and x-rays on the gelding it revealed signs of laminitis in its near-front hoof and the gelding has been sent for an immediate spell with consideration being given to its racing future. Ms. Terzi was advised a veterinary clearance with results of further x-rays would be required should circumstances change prior to trialing or racing again.

RACE 1: LADBROKES MEGA MULTI QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP – 950 Metres
 
FIDDICHFIRE – Slow to begin. Crowded for room near the 400 metres and put in an awkward stride and was unbalanced. Raced greenly for the majority of the race.
 
BETTA WIN – Began awkwardly. Made the 700 metre crossing awkwardly.
 
PRINCESS KNOWITALL – Shifted in at the start making heavy contact with RAAR which shifted out. Stepped in marginally near the 400 metres crowding FIDDICHFIRE.  
 
RAAR – Shifted out at the start making heavy contact with PRINCESS KNOWITALL. Raced greenly for the majority of the race.
 
RACE 2: R & J BATTERIES MAIDEN HANDICAP (QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE 2&3YO ONLY) – 1250 Metres
 
TRUSTING STAR – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start.
 
ROTH AUTHORITY – Shifted out at the start forcing KAJETAN wider. Raced greenly for the majority of the race and had a tendency to lay out. Raced wide for the majority of the race.  
 
KAJETAN – Forced wider on jumping and was slow into stride.
 
IT'S SHOWTIME – Raced wide in the early stages before improving forward approaching the 800 metres.
 
LIGHT MY LIFE – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
GOLDEN GLAZE – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
MONDAY CLOSE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to its tongue.

RACE 3: GARY RICHES PTY LTD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE FOR 3,4,5YO'S) – 1400 Metres
 
NIPPA'S NIGHTCAP – Slow to begin.
 
BETTA AL – Slow to begin.
 
SKOGAFOSS – Began awkwardly. Checked and lost its rightful running leaving the 1100 metres when SWATOW shifted in. Jockey S. Cormack (SWATOW) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 131(a) in that he permitted that runner to shift in when insufficiently clear of SKOGFOS which was checked and lost ground. S. Cormack’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of six (6) days to commence midnight Sunday 31st May 2026 and expires midnight Saturday 6th June 2026. When considering penalty stewards considered his guilty plea and exemplary record in relation to this charge over a long period of time. Jockey Cormack was advised of his appeal rights.  
 
SWATOW – Shifted in leaving the 1100 metres hampering SKOGAFOSS which was checked. Made the 700-metre crossing awkwardly. Stewards questioned trainer F. Wieland into the improved performance of SWATOW today as to its previous starts. Mr. Wieland stated that he had been hampered in the gelding’s preparation due to wet weather, lack of opportunity to grass gallops and with recent racing along with the improved track conditions were beneficial to its performance today. His explanation was noted.    
 
BUFFET BUSTER – Over-raced in the early stages.

LA MANO – Over-raced in the early stages. Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.  
 
RACE 4: LADBROKES BLACKBOOK BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1450 Metres
 
The start was delayed slightly when the horses were late arriving at the barriers.
 
THIRD MASTER – Delayed the start further when it put its head under the front of the barriers harmlessly before the front gates were opened and it was released. Underwent    a veterinary examination and it was cleared to start. Trainer A. Malliff advised it is the intention that the gelding would be sent for an immediate spell, however, he was advised a warning would be placed on THIRD MASTER’S barrier manners.      
 
SAN JUAN – Slow to begin.
 
HEIR JORDAN – Slow into stride.
 
THAT'S IT – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
SHARMAN PETE – Lost its off front plate during the race.
 
RACE 5: B & K DENT BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP – 950 Metres
 
The start was delayed when the horses were late arriving at the barriers due to the delay in the previous race.
 
BETTER BE SLICK– As the gelding had not raced for an extended period it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Slow to begin.  
 
ALMIGHTY JAB – Slow to begin.
 
ROUGE MOULIN – After being slow to begin shifted in bumping NEW HAMPSHIRE.
 
NEW HAMPSHIRE – Slow to begin and was bumped on jumping. 
 
SOWILO SIREN – Slow into stride.
 
CORBUSIER – Slow into stride. Raced wide for the majority. Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted today in particular from the barriers to the 200 metres. Jockey S. Cormack advised stewards that in his opinion CORBUSIER which he had ridden in its previous 5 starts, was not as switched on today and was looking to settle where it has previously raced keenly and over-raced. Trainer F. Wieland advised that he had been hampered in the gelding’s preparation which was returning from spell due to wet weather and the lack of opportunity to grass gallops however he was of the opinion the gelding would race further forward, he further added CORBUSIER had indicated on returning to scale it would benefit from today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards adjourned the inquiry to consider all relevant matters including betting activities on the race to a later date.  
 
MACHINE HEAD – Crowded by BELLA BIANCA and shifted out near the 500 metres bumping BELLA BIANCA.    
 
BELLA BIANCA – Bumped and became unbalanced near the 500 metres when crowding MACHINE HEAD which shifted out.    
 
BLOOMIN' RIPPER – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
RACE 6: ELDERS REAL ESTATE TABLELANDS OPEN HANDICAP – 1250 Metres
 
ARMOUR FORCE – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride.
 
OLYMPIC KORCHNOI (BRZ) – Shifted out near the 400 metres bumping STADIUM OF LIGHT. Laid in for a short distance near the 200 metres proving difficult to ride.
 
STADIUM OF LIGHT (NZ) – Bumped near the 400 metres. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
SEVENTIES HIT – Shifted in soon after the winning post inconveniencing CHOIR BOY. Jockey L. Morrison was advised to show greater care.  
 
RACE 7: JENKINS RUBBER SHOP BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1250 Metres
 
TIPPED OFF – Slow to begin.
 
FLORAL LEGEND – Slow to begin.
 
PREMIUM STAR – Shifted out at the start bumping CINCINCITY which was tightened for room.
 
CINCINCITY – Bumped and tightened for room on jumping.
 
SUPERSTITIONS – Raced wide without cover.
 
SECRET CYPHER – Raced wide in the early stages. Shifted in near the 200 metres bumping KITEMA.
 
KITEMA – Momentarily held up in the early part of the home straight. Bumped near the 200 metres.
 
MCLOVIN – When asked to explain the performance today jockey A. Holt advised the gelding raced keenly in the middle stages but was reluctant to race between runners and failed to respond to his riding. Trainer S. Hoffman agreed with jockey Holt’s assessment and further indicated the gelding indicated similar traits at its previous start however it had a better run in transit and raced truer. Whilst she was disappointed with its performance today, she gave an undertaking to advise stewards should anything come to her attention in the near future that may have had a bearing on today’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 8: LADBROKES BLACKBOOK QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE – 950 Metres
 
ZIG ZAG TORQUE – As the filly had not raced for an extended period it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Raced wide without cover.
 
WRITTEN JEWEL – Slow to begin and shifted in at the start bumping ILL’TELLYOUAFTER. Raced ungenerously in the middle stages.
 
I'LLTELLYOUAFTER – Was slow to begin and then bumped by WRITTEN JEWEL which shifted in.
 
INVADERLEE – Shifted in at the start bumping with VAN DER WOODSEN and was slow into stride.
 
VAN DER WOODSEN – Bumped on jumping.
 
MEAN ZIPPER – Slow into stride. Raced wide without cover.
 
WHO'SYADADDY – Began awkwardly.
 
A LITTLE XTRA – Shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip near the 150 metres. Trainer A. Holmes was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
