SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
As P. Hammersley was indisposed due to injury stewards permitted rider changes as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: James Boags Premium QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 1640m
WALTHAM was examined by the veterinary surgeon after arriving at the barriers at the request of rider J. Byrne and subsequently withdrawn at 11.31 a.m. after being found to be lame in the near fore leg. All monies invested were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and placegetters prior to 11.31 a.m.:-
0 cents in the dollar for the win - #2 (CYLINDER BEACH)
0 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #2 (CYLINDER BEACH)
8 cents in the dollar for 2nd place - #5 (REDSERA)
7 cents in the dollar for 3rd place - #9 (CAPETOWN HUSSEY)
Trainer K. Kemp will be advised that a veterinary certificate must be provided for the gelding prior to its next start.
CYLINDER BEACH – Trainer D. Forster advised the horse would be ridden more forward and settle midfield today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Lost a near fore plate in running.
MEDIA CIRCUS – Bumped by another runner near the 700m. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
CAPETOWN HUSSEY – Shifted out and bumped another runner near the 700m and became unbalanced.
BIG DEAL – Shifted out abruptly when weakening passing the 200m making heavy contact with REDSERA.
REDSERA – Near the 200m became unbalanced when bumped heavily by BIG DEAL. Lost a near hind plate in running.
DUDOOMP – Steadied from the heels of REDSERA after passing the 200m.
Race 2: Rosie Eccles Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate - 1350m
UNASSUMING – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground.
PARLIAMENT HOUSE – Blundered badly at the start and lost ground. Jockey J. Lloyd reported that after blundering badly at the start he attempted to restrain his mount towards the rear of the field but when the pace steadied after passing the 900m it would not settle so he elected to ride forward in an attempt to cross CUBAN PRINCESS in the middle stages. Jockey Lloyd added however that PARLIAMENT HOUSE hung out badly which prevented him from clearing that runner.
WULFIES LADY – Shifted out passing the 600m when overracing.
MY COUSIN MELANIE – Clipped the heels of WULFIES LADY passing the 600m and blundered when that runner shifted out slightly. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
Race 3: Canadian Club Giddy Up Club Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden Plate - 1350m
COCOA BAR – Trainer B. Herne advised the horse would be ridden forward today if circumstances permit. The horse settled towards the rear of the field.
BOURBON ROAD – Overraced in the early stages.
GUNDY MAGIC – Hung in under pressure in the home straight, which prevented App Fancourt from riding the gelding out in her normal manner.
YABA DABL DOYA – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
Race 4: Mitavite Ratings Band 0-70 H'Cap - 1050m
RIVER GEORGIA – Jumped away awkwardly. App L. Tarrant was fined $200.00 under the provisions of AR175(a) for striking his mount in the vicinity of the head with his whip when he returned to the enclosure following the race.
MOSS HARRY – Inclined to lay in over the concluding stages, which prevented App S. Payne from riding his mount out in his normal manner. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
Race 5: Canadian Club Over Beer Ratings Band 0-70 H'Cap - 2040 m
YEAGER – Bumped heavily by ELECTRIC DEE JAY near the 1900m mark. Raced 3 wide without cover from the 1300m.
ELECTRIC DEE JAY – Near the 1900m shifted in and away from TANGARA and bumped heavily with YEAGER.
MR ANDRE – Had to be restrained from heels when the pace steadied near the 1400m.
ANNAMAN - Had to be restrained from heels when the pace steadied near the 1400m. Had difficulty securing clear running over the final 200m.
LOST THIEF – Approaching the 100m shifted out on 2 occasions and bumped another runner.
DANISH HOMBRE – Bumped on 2 occasions approaching the 100m.
BOLD AVENUE – Approaching the winning post had to be steadied from the heels of BIRDIE BLITZ (T. Harrison), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. T. Harrison was issued with a severe reprimand and advised to show far greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
BLATANT – Jockey G. Colless reported that his mount was under heavy pressure from the 800m and did not feel entirely comfortable in its action. Stewards will interview trainer Mr M. Dunn regarding the performance of the gelding today.
TANGARA – When questioned regarding the performance of TANGARA jockey S. Apthorpe explained that the gelding never travelled comfortably and weakened badly from the 500m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
Race 6: Urban Office Fit Outs Fillies & Mares Class 3 Plate - 1350m
MOCK ME NOT – Raced 3 wide without cover over the final 1000m.
IN THE MOMENT – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 7: ASCOTBYMIRVAC Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 3 Plate - 1350m
The start was delayed when KOBI CREEK shifted a plate in the mounting enclosure and had to be attended to by the Club farrier.
NO MAGIC NEEDED – Trainer B. Baldwin advised the horse would be ridden more forward today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
KOBI CREEK – Overraced in the middle stages.
PARTY SPIN – Overraced in the middle stages.
MONSTER OF ENERGY – Overraced in the middle stages.
GENTLEMAN JACK – Shifted out when weakening soon after straightening. When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted in the early and middle stages jockey M. Cahill explained that he was instructed to ride the gelding where it was comfortable and was advised not to overly restrain the horse as it has resented this in the past. Jockey Cahill added that he was unable to obtain cover leaving the 1000m and soon afterward the pace steadied and GENTLEMAN JACK commenced to overrace and for this reason he allowed the horse to stride forward. Jockey Cahill further added that the gelding was under heavy pressure approaching the home turn and weakened badly in the home straight.
DIDDY WIN DIDDY – Had to be restrained from the heels of GENTLEMAN JACK in the early stages of the home straight. Jockey J. Lloyd reported that he was of the view that his mount got its tongue over the bit and choked down throughout the race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
REAL ROCKER – Had to be checked near the 300m when tightened for room between DIDDY WIN DIDDY and WE’RE READY.
Race 8: Channel 7 Class 4 H’Cap - 1200m
WATLING – Slow to begin.
CANTBUYBETTER – Passing the 300m was bumped by another runner.
JACK BE QUICK - Shifted out under pressure passing the 300m and bumped another runner.
