Race 1: Canadian Club Benchmark 75 H'cap - 2200m
JUNEE BOY – As jockey A. Allen’s arrival was delayed, apprentice A. Fancourt was substituted as the rider of the horse when no senior jockey was available.
ALAKRIS - Obliged to steady from heels near the 2000m.
MR LEBROCK – Slow to begin.
SAN TELMO – Held up rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination revealed an abrasion to the outside of the off foreleg and slight swelling. A swab sample was taken.
ELEMENT OF CHANCE – Raced wide throughout.
Race 2: Mount Franklin Open H'cap – 1050m
FALINO – Declared a late scratching at 11.20 am due to the downgrading of the track.
MR FAVULOUS – Blundered badly at the start.
ROCKY KING – Shifted out on jumping away and made contact with another runner. Jockey D. Browne reported he felt there was something amiss with the gelding and eased his mount down in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed stepping slightly short in off fore leg.
UPSTART PRIDE – Bumped on jumping away. Raced wide without cover.
ADEBISI – Raced wide with cover.
Race 3: Cascade Heat #3 Origin Jockey Series Presented By UBET 1MW H'cap 1350m
GLENDARA – Slow to begin.
CIRCUIT BREAKER – Jumped away awkwardly.
MISTER BOOZE – Jumped away awkwardly.
CHEAPSKATER – Raced wide without cover.
SELFIE – Trainer Mr M. Frappell was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the horse. He stated that after consultation with jockey R. Fradd the stable were of the opinion that the gelding may settle more forward than at its most recent start, however did not expect the horse to be racing behind the leaders, particular in view of the wet track.
Race 4: HG Retail Phelan Ready 2yo C&G Stakes – 1050m
SIDERE – Slow to begin. Tightened for room between runners near the 1000m. Taken wider near the 600m.
CONGELATOR – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Commenced to race fiercely passing the 800 when being steadied from heels, and near the 600m shifted out, forcing runners racing to its outside wider on the track. The racing manners of the gelding were brought to the attention of trainer P. Cartledge and a warning was placed on the horse.
PUNISHING – Jumped away awkwardly. Steadied from heels near the 600m. Raced wide throughout.
BEYOND BRAVE – Shortly after the start shifted in and bumped another runner.
JANDAMA – Bumped shortly after the start.
SUGAR RAY RED - Tightened for room between runners near the 1000m.
STAR OF POMPEII – Taken wider near the 600m.
Race 5: The Grove Train Calaway Gal Stakes 2yo Fillies – 1050m
OUR CINDERELLA – Jumped away awkwardly.
THE LAST KISS – Bumped at the start. A post race veterinary examination revealed cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised they must provide the results of an ECG and the filly must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
STARANTE – Improved quickly approaching the 800m inside the heels of another runner and then shifted in, tightening runners to its inside. Jockey L. Rolls was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in initially, which resulted in him being awkwardly placed at the heels of SERENA’S PRIDE and obliged to shift in.
RIVER RACER – Checked when tightened for room near 800m.
ROYAL TITHE – Hampered when tightened for room near the 800m.
SPOT THE DIFF – Raced wide without cover.
BALANCING ACT – Raced wide without cover.
Race 6: Coca Cola Two Metro Wins H'cap – 1200m
TYPHOON RED – Declared a late scratching at 12.05 pm due to the downgrading of the track.
SOLDI DOMANI – As B. Stewart was to be overweight, L. Tarrant was substituted as the rider of the horse. B. Stewart’s explanation was accepted. Shifted in and made contact with the running rail near the 800m.
DAPH ‘N’ ALF – Restless in the stalls and jumped away awkwardly.
REMAGEN BRIDGE – Raced wide without cover.
ZAHA’S ACE – Apprentice A. Fancourt was reprimanded for using her whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m and on one consecutive occasion.
Race 7: Star Liquor Gold Edition 3yo Plate – 1200m
MADOTTI – Declared a late scratching at 12.15 pm due to the downgrading of the track.
DRAM OF RED - Declared a late scratching at 12.15 pm due to the downgrading of the track.
STICK WITH ME – After making contact with the enclosure rail was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers and cleared to start.
SECRET SAGA – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Jockey J. Byrne reported at scale his mount refused to stretch out in the track conditions today and resented the kick-back.
PEPPERANO – Shifted out abruptly on jumping away and made contact with another runner.
MILITARY MISS – Bumped on jumping away and taken wider on the track.
SOLD FOR SONG – Jumped away awkwardly.
PRIVLAKA – Raced wide without cover.
IN HIS STRIDE – Raced wide without cover.
Race 8: Jones Retail Lough Neagh Stakes – 1350m
MISS COVER GIRL – Change of tactics. Connections advised the horse would be ridden where comfortable. The horse settled worse than midfield.
TEMPLE OF BOOM – Tightened for room near the 200m between runners. Jockey T. Harrison was questioned regarding her riding, in particular why she did not restrain the gelding after passing the 800m when racing outside and forward of SALUTER. Miss Harrison explain that after working hard to cross WEINHOT near the 900m she was reluctant to restrain the gelding and allowed it to maintain its rhythm in the track conditions, and furthermore it has shown difficulties with its breathing more recently and for this reason she was reluctant to restrain her mount. T. Harrison was advised that in these circumstances she would have been expected to take hold of her mount and that would have been the better option. She was told stewards did not accept her explanation that had she restrained she would have caused inconvenience to runners behind.
STEEL ZIP - A post race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the near foreleg.
Race 9: Heat #4 Origin Jockey Series – Presented By Ubet Benchmark 85 H'cap – 1600m
SEA RED – Declared a late scratching at 1.17 pm due to the downgrading of the track.
FELTRE – Declared a late scratching at 2.10 pm due to the downgrading of the track.
BENTLES – After acceding to a request from trainer T. Gollan for the late scratching of the horse at 4.30 pm. Mr Gollan was fined $400. Stewards made a determination with regard to the bets made prior to the late withdrawal of the horse, which was scratched prior to the official market being transmitted. That being, it necessary for winning bets as the late scratching of the horse would have occupied a prominent position in the betting market. The determination was that any winning bets made prior to the withdrawal of BENTLES were to be paid at UBET pari-mutuel odds.
HI SON – Jockey D. Gauci was questioned regarding his riding of the horse in the early stages. He stated he was under no instructions and when wide on the track after travelling 100m he elected to ease and endeavour to find a trailing position, however his mount commenced to overrace and was obliged to race further back in the field than he anticipated.
OUR BOY NICHOLAS – Slow to begin.
ONGOING VENTURE – Held up approaching the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
GOOD JOB BRO – Held up approaching the home turn and did not gain clear running until inside the 100m.
WEARING WINGS – Shifted out to improve near the 300m and made contact with another runner. Had to be steadied approaching the 200m when tightened for room.
HOT SAGA – Hung in in the early stages of the home straight under pressure. Jockey J. Lloyd reported his mount hung in despite his efforts in the straight and he felt there may have been something amiss with the gelding and as a result he eased his mount over the concluding stages.
KWANZA – Bumped near the 300m.
