GENERAL
Stewards accepted the reason why N. Rawiller was unable to fulfill his engagement on MOVIN’ OUT in race 7. He was subsequently replaced by C Newitt.
As Apprentice C. Collis was overweight in Race 4 on MASTER SHOWMAN, he was subsequently replaced by Jockey A. Jones. Apprentice C. Collis was fined $300 pursuant to AR 190(3).
Race 1: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1110 M
METALART – Began awkwardly and was bumped shortly after the start by ACRES AWAY.
NATIONAL CHOICE – Began awkwardly and was bumped shortly after the start by METALART.
BRERETON – Raced wide throughout.
HOLY RACKET (NZ) – Passing the 200m, severely hampered having its hind quarters tuned.
HE'S HEAVEN – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
RALPHIE – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight up until approaching the 80m.
BEWS – Slow into stride and hampered shortly after the start. Shortly after straightening, attempted to improve into a closing run between HOLY RACKET (NZ) and SICILIAN which shifted in under riding. Apprentice E. Lang rider of SICILIAN was advised to exercise greater care and stop and straighten her mount when shifting in future.
ACRES AWAY – Bumped after the start by BEWS. Passing the 600m laid in and away from runners and had to be corrected. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
SICILIAN – Laid in during the early part of the home straight near the 200m, shifted in contacting BEWS and resulting in that runner having its hind quarters turned and losing ground.
Race 2: THE STAR BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1350 M
COTTEE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
I AM ARTIE – Raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding today’s performance, Jockey M. Rodd stated that his mount was under pressure early and as a result proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BETTCHA THE CROWN – Over raced during the early stages.
HYPE (IRE) – Trainer’s representative for A. Nunn, S. Brown was reprimanded pursuant to AR 206(3) for presenting HYPE (IRE) to the mounting yard with incorrect gear.
RHAPSODY CHIC (NZ) – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running passing the 200m and after shifting in, in an attempt to secure clear running, became awkwardly placed at the heels of WITHOUT REVENGE and was unable to be tested to the line.
SHA OF GOMER – Raced wide throughout.
SIR ARTIE – Slow into stride and bumped with THE DROVER shortly after. Became awkwardly placed at heels on entering the home straight.
TAVS – Raced wide throughout.
HELLAVADANCER – When questioned regarding today’s performance of HELLAVADANCER, Jockey A. Mallyon stated that his mount only travelled fairly in the early and middle stages and when asked for an effort passing the 500m, the mare didn’t respond as its customary fashion and failed to finish off the race as expected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a nasal discharge. Trainer K. Lee’s was advised HELLAVADANCER would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
THE DROVER – Slow into stride and bumped with SIR ARTIE shortly after.
Race 3: DRINKWISE BILL CARTER STAKES - LISTED 1350 M
HA'PENNY HATCH (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
DON'TDOUBTHELADY – Jockey J. Stanley reported his mount had a tendency to hang out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
SWEET PRETENDER – Approaching the 250m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of HIGHGROVE ROSE. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the filly’s off fore canon.
ON POINT PIXIE – Began awkwardly.
CARBONARA – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running for the entirety of the home straight and was unable to be fully tested to the line.
CHATTERLEY – Raced wide throughout.
MOON JEWEL – Had its tongue tie re-fitted on arrival to the barriers. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
Race 4: LADBROKES CHIEF DE BEERS - LISTED - TRUE WEIGHTS APPLY, REFER TO LOCAL RULE LR64B. 1110 M
SPACEWALK – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
KING KAPA – Began awkwardly.
THE BIG GOODBYE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
APPIN GIRL – As the pace of the race slackened approaching the 900m, had to be steadied from heels. Jockey N. Beriman could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and the mare to have lost it’s near fore plate.
MASTER SHOWMAN – As the pace of the race slackened approaching the 900m, had to be steadied from heels and commenced to over race for a short distance thereafter.
MANHOOD – Began awkwardly.
ECONOMICS – Began awkwardly and lost considerable ground. Over raced during the early stages when being urged to take up a forward position.
Race 5: SEVEN DARBY MCCARTHY OAM QTIS 3YO 1110 M
MAYFAIR – Raced wide throughout.
LEAD ME ON – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 200m and raced in restricted room for several strides near the 100m.
AMELITA – When questioned regarding today’s performance, Jockey J. McDonald could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying clinical signs of the thumps. Trainer’s representative B. Killion was advised to report back in the subsequent days on the condition of the filly.
HELLA FAST – Began awkwardly.
BENZOU – Over raced throughout. Raced wide throughout. Jockey R. King reported her mount hung out throughout the event and was unable to place the gelding under pressure over the concluding stages, placing her at a disadvantage. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying clinical signs of the thumps. Trainer B. Healy reported that he would report back to Stewards in the subsequent days and that it is his likely intention to send the gelding for a freshen up. Stewards advised B. Healy that BENZOU would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to resuming.
TIGER TIE – Bumped on the hind quarters shortly after the start and became momentarily unbalanced.
I'M ZAC – Trainer D. Forster was reprimanded pursuant to AR 206(3) for presenting I’M ZAC to the mounting yard with incorrect gear.
MISHANI LILY – Apprentice E. Lang reported her mount proved disappointing and may not have handled the step up in the quality of todays event. Trainer D. Stanbridge concurred with Apprentice E. Lang’s comments. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
DREAM SMART – Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 150m.
PRIDE TO FOLLOW – Bumped after the start. Raced wide throughout.
HEART AND SPIRIT – Slow to begin.
SHE OURS – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
ALLY – Shifted out on jumping and bumped
ESTRONDO – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow.
Following this race, the track was upgraded to a Good 4.
Race 6: MAGIC MILLIONS FILLIES & MARES MILE - GROUP 3 1600 M
PULCHRITUDINOUS (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Laid out over the concluding stages of the event. When questioned regarding today’s improved performance of the mare, Co Trainer A. Bott stated that in his opinion the mare is only starting to acclimatise to Australian conditions. He added that PULCHRITUDINOUS (NZ) had a short freshen up following its last start at Rosehill on the 1st of April and had performed well in its most recent trial and was not surprised about todays forward showing.
ROOTS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
JENNILALA – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until approaching the 200m. Jockey C. Newitt could offer no explanation for today’s performance and proved disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
QUEEN OF DRAGONS – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
THALASSOPHILE – Slow to begin.
ARTS OBJECT – Approaching the 1500m, had to be steadied from heels when inconvenienced by JENNILALA which shifted in before having to be corrected. Raced wide throughout.
EXOTIQUE MISS – Approaching the 1500m, obliged to steady passing the 1500m to avoid the heels of ADIELLA which shifted in whilst improving. Jockey N. Beriman rider of ADIELLA was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.
VIVY AIR – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Passing the 300m shifted in in an attempt to improve and was able to secure clear running passing the 200m.
ROSE BLOOM (IRE) – Over raced during the early and middle stages.
POETIC DRAMA (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the early stages when being restrained to take up a position with cover.
TORABELLA – Passing the 1100m had to be restrained from heels whilst over racing. Jockey C. Williams reported that his mount over raced during the early stages of the event but on straightening was disappointing in its finishing efforts.
ONE AYE – Began awkwardly.
JUST GLAMOUROUS – Raced wide until taking up a leading position passing the 800m.
Race 7: ANZ BLOODSTOCK NEWS THE ROSES - GROUP 2 2000 M
BENAGIL – Approaching the 1500m had to be steadied. Obliged to take evasive action to avoid the heels of BELLA MONTAGNA which was restrained off heels. Hampered approaching the 200m by DAME COMMANDER which shifted out whilst weakening.
MOVIN OUT (NZ) – Restrained on jumping to take up a rearward position.
YOU WAHNG – Passing the 1500m raced in restricted room when tightened for room by HURRY CURRY (NZ) which was carried in by PLEASURE ARTIST which shifted in when attempting to obtain cover. Jockey N. Callow rider of PLEASURE ARTIST was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.
PHILIA – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
HURRY CURRY (NZ) – Severely hampered passing the 300m when having to be checked to avoid the heels of POSTER GIRL which shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.
PLEASURE ARTIST – Over raced during the early stages. Passing the winning post on the first occasion was momentarily inconvenienced and became awkwardly placed at the heels of CANNY QUEEN (NZ) which shifted in.
BELLA MONTAGNA (NZ) – Obliged to steady passing the 200m to avoid the heels of BENAGIL which had to be steadied.
DAME COMMANDER – Approaching the 200m, shifted out whilst weakening resulting in the filly making contact with BENAGIL, having its hind quarters turned, becoming awkward in its stride and losing significant ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have the thumps.
POSTER GIRL – Shifted in abruptly shortly after straightening hampering HURRY CURRY (NZ). Co Trainer C. Munce was advised a warning would be placed on POSTER GIRL for its racing mannerisms.
SUN WORSHIPPER – Began awkwardly. Passing the 1500m was obliged to steady to avoid the heels of HURRY CURRY (NZ) who was hampered in front. In the incident, SUN WORSHIPPER shifted in, tightening the running of BELLA MONTAGNA (NZ) who was severely hampered and had to be restrained off heels.
CANNY QUEEN (NZ) – Jockey J. Collett reported his mount proved difficult to settle in the early stages of the event.
Race 8: XXXX DOOMBEN CUP - GROUP 1 2000 M
ANTINO (NZ) – Bumped after the start. Raced wide for the majority.
FAWKNER PARK (IRE) – Raced wide for the majority.
MILITARIZE (NZ) – Shifted out on jumping and bumped ANTINO (NZ). Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, obliged to steady to avoid the heels of ANTINO (NZ) which shifted in to obtain cover. Jockey B. Shinn rider of ANTINO (NZ) was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.
MY OBERON (IRE) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have mild heat stress.
KOVALICA (NZ) – Passing the 1500m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MISS JOELENE which shifted in before being corrected. Jockey C. Graham rider of MISS JOELENE severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.
ELIYASS (FR) – Passing the 200m had difficulty obtaining clear running. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
OSIPENKO (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
KLONDIKE (GB) – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, whilst being restrained to come back off heels, commenced to race fierce making the point of that turn awkwardly.
PRIDE OF JENNI – When questioned regarding today’s performance, Jockey C. Newitt reported he had to make use of PRIDE OF JENNI in the early stages to take up a leading position. He added PRIDE OF JENNI raced only fairly in the middle stages and commenced to come back to the field from the 500m. He added that he had no concerns with the action of the mare coming back to scale. Trainer C. Maher stated that he would report back in the days subsequent on the condition and future racing plans of the mare. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
Race 9: HKJC WORLD POOL BRC SPRINT - GROUP 3 1350 M
FAR TOO EASY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after being late on course and was subsequently cleared to start. Trainer D. McColm was fined $300 pursuant to AR 227(a) for being negligent in that he arrived late on course.
ATTRACTABLE – Raced wide throughout.
WILLAIDOW – Raced wide throughout.
PIER (NZ) – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
ROCKRIBBED – Reared as the start was affected and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.
COLEMAN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be lame in its near foreleg. Trainer C. Waller was advised COLEMAN would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
TRANSATLANTIC – Raced wide throughout.
ABOUNDING – Raced wide throughout.
MATCHA LATTE – Raced wide throughout.
BOOM TORQUE – Approaching the 900m, improved onto the heels of XIDAKI resulting in BOOM TORQUE clipping heels and blundering.
