GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweight:
Race 8. A. Mallyon +0.5kg
Stewards opened an inquiry regarding a reported altercation that occurred in the male jockey’s room following the running of Race 6. After taking evidence from several of the male riding cohort, Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date and time to be determined to allow further investigation of the incident and evidence to be gathered.
Race 1: BECOME A BRC MEMBER QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1200 Metres
DAMIEN – Raced wide throughout.
RED CODE – Inclined to lay in approaching the 400m and in the early stages of the home straight. Eased down in the home straight. Rider J. Guthmann-Chester reported that the gelding resented racing between runners approaching the home turn and was disappointing in its finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co-trainer M. Sears advised that the stable would report back regarding the gelding’s current preparation.
WORTHY ENUFF – Approaching the 400m, tightened for room and had to be steadied when RED CODE shifted in whilst weakening.
ROYAL CHIC – Rider K. Wilson-Taylor reported that it was not his intention to settle in a forward position, however from the inside barrier and due to the lack of early speed shown by other runners, he elected to settle in a more forward position than intended.
SMASHING LULU – Began awkwardly. Near the 500m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels.
Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Good (4).
Race 2: LADBROKES CALCUTTA & LUNCHEON 13 JUNE MAIDEN PLATE 1110 Metres
ELROY – Bumped heavily on jumping and lost ground.
MAKE A CALL – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. Leaving the 50m, laid in when racing greenly before being corrected by its rider.
SIGLO DE ORO – Inclined to lay out approaching the home turn. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
CLIODHNA MAEVE (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. Leaving the 50m, brushed by MAKE A CALL, then continued to lay in and away from that runner over the final stages of the event.
DARE TO LOVE – Rider L. Tilley reported that his mount had a tendency to lay out for the majority of the event.
MAGICAL EYE – Began awkwardly and bumped ELROY. Inclined to lay in during the early stages.
SHAMIELA – Hampered on jumping.
SUPIDO ROSE – Hampered on jumping. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.
Race 3: XXXX GOLD QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD COLTS & GELDINGS MAIDEN PLATE 1200 Metres
ABENDER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after kicking out and contacting the enclosure fencing and was subsequently cleared to start. Leaving the 800m, improved onto the heels of BOOM BREAK, which was racing greenly, and as a consequence had to be steadied and shifted wider.
BOOM BREAK – Near the 600m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied.
BRUTAL ADVANCE – Rider C. Williams reported that the gelding, when asked for an effort in the home straight, proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Co-trainer T. Edmonds advised that it was his likely intention to send the gelding for a freshen up.
CAPIANA – Raced wide the majority. Bumped rounding the home turn. Approaching the 200m, momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of UNEGA WAH’YA which shifted in under pressure. Rider L. Tilley (UNEGA WAH’YA) was advised to exercise more care.
LAW MARSHAL – Approaching the 200m, improved onto the heels of CAPIANA and obliged to shift inwards to improve.
LUDWIG – Slow to begin.
MELTDOWN – Slow to begin. Approaching the 150m, was obliged to alter course in order to improve.
NOIRE EMPEROR – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 800m, had to be momentarily steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of BOOM BREAK, which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Held up for clear running on approaching the home turn until leaving the 200m.
SILENT CALL – Near the 600m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied.
SIX OF WANDS – Whilst over racing, made the turn approaching the 800m awkwardly, shifted out and became awkwardly placed at the heels of SILENT CALL before racing wide for the remainder.
UNEGA WAHY'A – Near the 600m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Bumped rounding the home turn.
Race 4: MULLINS LAWYERS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE 1200 Metres
AMUSEANTES – Over raced during the middle stages. Raced wide from the 800m.
AVIOR – Raced wide throughout.
BALANCE THE BOOKS – Began awkwardly.
BELLE OF BERLIN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Rider M. Rodd reported that his mount failed to muster speed during the early and middle stages. He added that, in his opinion, the filly would derive benefit from the race experience and a step up in distance.
CIPHERTEXT – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the right foreleg.
DUBALENE – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room approaching the home turn. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
FOR BETTER – Over raced during the middle stages.
HONKYTONK HUSTLE – Raced keenly during the early stages. Commenced to weaken from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
SCHEHERAZADE – Momentarily held up for clear running approaching the home turn. Leaving the 100m, rider C. Williams dropped his whip.
Race 5: MAGIC MILLIONS PLATE 1200 Metres
I AM UNSTOPPABLE – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance, rider R. Maloney advised that the gelding didn’t appreciate the fast tempo set in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying clinical signs of the thumps.
LION CLASS – Raced keenly during the middle stages.
Race 6: WORLD POOL BET WITH THE WORLD BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1600 Metres
HULKAMANIA – Leaving the 1000m, commenced to over race and had to be steadied from heels
PATMOS ISLAND – Raced wide without cover throughout.
AWAYGOESTHEBUNNY – Leaving the 1000m, commenced to over race and had to be steadied from heels.
DOWNEY – Raced wide until leaving the 1100m.
HALLSIDE MARTINI – Stood flatfooted as the start was effected. Trainer J. Edwards was advised that HALLSIDE MARTINI must trial or jump out to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
JEALOUS – Raced wide with cover throughout.
KILNA (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Carried wider rounding the home turn when BITOFTHEBLARNEY shifted out to improve.
BITOFTHEBLARNEY (NZ) – Raced wide with cover throughout.
CARPACCIO – Over raced during the early stages and steadied. Leaving the 1000m, commenced to over race and had to be steadied from heels and again near the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the off fore fetlock.
Race 7: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1350 Metres
The start of this race was delayed approximately 5 minutes when rider N. Callow, who had weighed out for this event, was then subsequently stood down after being examined by the club doctor and found to be unfit to fulfil his remaining engagements.
HEIKA – Began awkwardly.
RESTONICA – Shifted in approaching the 1000m.
CINQUE TERRE – Slow to begin.
I AM A MARVEL – Passing the 1000m, commenced to over race when being restrained to avoid the heels of RESTONICA which shifted in. L. Tilley, rider of RESTONICA, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and approaching the 200m became awkwardly placed at the heels of LUTON HOO which laid out under pressure resulting in I AM A MARVEL having to shift in to obtain clear running.
POSEIDON RULER – Slow to begin. Laid out rounding the home turn. Held up in the early stages of the home straight until obtaining clear running leaving the 200m.
BOONDOCKS – Slow to begin. Passing the 1000m, as pace of the race slackened, commenced to over race. Approaching the 250m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of I AM A MARVEL which shifted out. Apprentice T. Fenlon, the rider of I AM MARVEL, was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) careless riding, for this incident.
GOOD LIEUTENANT – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer B. Healey was advised that GOOD LIEUTENANT will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing or trialing again.
LUTON HOO (NZ) – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
AFFINITY FLYER – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
ADDITION (NZ) – Steadied near the 1100m when looking for cover. On entering the home straight, disappointed for a run between GOOD LIEUTENANT and HELLO IN THERE which shifted in, resulting in ADDITION making contact with HELLO IN THERE. Held up for clear running over the concluding stages when becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of AFFINITY FLYER which laid in under pressure.
NIPPA'S NIGHTCAP – Slow to begin.
HELLO IN THERE – Raced wide throughout.
TAMBORINE MAN – Slow to begin.
KARIACTION – Raced wide.
Race 8: LADBROKES QUICK MULTI CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
The start of this race was delayed 4 minutes due to the delay in the previous event and ETUDE requiring a veterinary examination at the request of its rider on arrival at the barriers. Upon examination, ETUDE was found to be lame in the near hindleg and was declared a late scratching at 4.15pm. Stewards ordered that all bets placed on ETUDE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st AITUTAKI 7c win, 8c place
2nd NOVEMBER SUN 9c place
3rd BACKSTAGE 9c place
Trainer K. Lees was advised that ETUDE will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing or trialing again.
LOVEWILLCOMELATER – Hampered on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
TURN THE CORNER – Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels approaching the winning post.
HEADHUNTER – Began awkwardly then restrained from the wide barrier to a rearward position.
KING BOOM – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
PROMINENT LAD – Raced wide throughout.
FACUNDO – Leaving the 300m disappointed for a run between VELOZES and BRIGHT BLONDE. At a point approaching the 150m was again disappointed for a run between those runners and went to the line without being fully tested.
PRO FORMA – When asked to comment, rider M. Harley reported that the gelding failed to travel comfortably and, in his opinion did not appreciate today’s racing surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Co-trainer C. Munce advised that he would, report back to Stewards anything of significance that may come to light regarding the gelding’s performance.
VELOZES – Commenced to over race passing the 900m.
AITUTAKI – Hampered on jumping.
BRIGHT BLONDE – Commenced to over race passing the 900m.
NOVEMBER SUN – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Obliged to alter course near the 250m in order to improve.
