SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Sunshine Coast 15/06/25
Race 8 – Stewards permitted THE DEPUTY to race without a nasal strip when one could not be sourced within the required time.
Ipswich 21/06/25
Race 7 – Trainer’s representative T. Pollard advised that DIABLO BOLT had been scoped upon return to the stables and was found to have an entrapped epiglottis and would undergo surgery to correct this.
GENERAL
Co-trainers T. & M. Sears were fined $200 under LR 68(1) for failing to scratch RUM RUNNER from Race 3 by the prescribed time.
As Apprentice B. Wheeler was unable to make the allocated weight in Race 7 and Race 8, he was replaced as per the race day summary. Apprentice B. Wheeler was fined $500 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
Race 8: As no suitable rider was available, Stewards acceded to a request from connections and TERRITORY ASH was declared a late scratching at 1:06pm.
As Jockey J. Huxtable was indisposed after Race 6, he was replaced as per the race day summary. Jockey J. Huxtable was advised that a medical certificate would be required prior to racing again.
Race 1: MEKKA RACEDAY 16 AUGUST QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1110 M
GOZO – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
HIT THE SWITCH – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Lost its near fore plate.
OMPHALOS – Began awkwardly and bumped CASTIGLIONE. Raced wide. Laid out rounding the home turn. Leaving the 250m, had to be checked to avoid the heels of BLITZWATER, which shifted out. Jockey J. Bayliss the rider of BLITZWATER pled guilty to charge pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding, the particulars being that at a point near the 250m, when in a position behind CASTIGLIONE, he directed his mount outwards under riding, resulting in OMPHALOS having to be checked to avoid the heels of BLITZWATER. Jockey J. Bayliss’s license to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, commencing midnight the 2nd of July of and concluding midnight the 11th of July. Jockey Bayliss was advised of his appeal rights.
RAPID READY – Bumped at the start. Raced wide.
BLITZWATER – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Held up rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Jockey J. Bayliss was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
COOL MOON – Began awkwardly and was hampered shortly after and lost ground. Improved onto heels approaching the winning post and had to be steadied.
FIVE OF US – Raced wide. Inconvenienced approaching the 200m.
SHARPOY – Began awkwardly and bumped RAPID READY.
CASTIGLIONE – Began awkwardly and bumped OMPHALOS.
INSAIN LADY – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that INSAIN LADY would be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. Began awkwardly and settled midfield with cover. Over-raced in the early stages. Rounding the home turn, had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room to the inside of HIT THE SWITCH.
Race 2: THE GIBSON MAIDEN PLATE 1350 M
HE IS THE KISS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide from the 800m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
READY FOR THE TRIP – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
MAGICAL EYE – Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, had to be checked and lost ground.
MIANDA – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SHIRLEY PEARLY shortly after the start.
SHIRLEY PEARLY – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped MIANDA shortly after the start.
SUNCHELLE – Obliged to alter course near the 200m. Jockey M. Du Plessis reported at scale that his mount never travelled comfortably in today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have heat stress. Trainer T. Bita was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
Race 3: TATTERSALL'S TIARA RACEDAY 28 JUNE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1350 M
CHIEF IN CHARGE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped PRAISE YOU. Held up approaching the home turn.
GAS BRIGADE – Raced wide throughout.
NOIRE EMPEROR – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
PRAISE YOU – Bumped at the start.
SKORPIOS ISLE – Began awkwardly and was hampered shortly after.
USE YOUR ILLUSION – Apprentice E. Lang was questioned regarding her riding in the home straight, in particular where she elected to shift wide to obtain clear running, rather than to pursue racing room that presented to the inside of SKORPIOS ISLE near the 250m. Apprentice E. Lang explained that after racing ungenerously in the early stages, which she attributed to the gear change of blinkers off first start, her mount began to improve in the home straight. After her initial intentions were to improve into a run that presented to the inside of SKORPIOS ISLE, she elected to shift wide after SKORPIOS ISLE shifted in momentarily as she became concerned that SKORPIOS ISLE would continue to shift in, and she would run out of sufficient racing room. After viewing the available footage apprentice Lang conceded that in hindsight, she could have continued attempting to improve into a run to the inside of SKORPIOS ISLE. Stewards noted the explanation however strongly advised apprentice Lang that she should ride in a manner that does not invite questioning.
WEONA REDWOOD (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced greenly approaching the 200m.
Race 4: MULLINS LAWYERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1640 M
COLLEANO – Began awkwardly.
LARUSSO – Steadied when awkwardly placed at heels approaching the 1200m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
LOCH AWE – Held up rounding the home turn. Leaving the 200m, raced in restricted room until approaching the 100m.
JILLAROO (USA) – When questioned regarding the performance of JILLAROO (USA), Jockey A. Jones reported that the mare raced flat and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have the thumps and a cough. Trainer’s representative B. Cavanough advised Stewards that upon return to the stables JILLAROO (USA) underwent an endoscopic examination by the stable veterinarian which revealed the mare to have mucus in its airways. Trainer C. Maher was advised that a veterinary certificate including the results of an endoscopic examination would be required prior to being permitted race or trial again.
RANGER ENJAY – Hampered shortly after the start. Held up rounding the home turn.
BLONDE ON BLONDE – When questioned regarding the performance of BLONDE ON BLONDE, Jockey A. Mallyon reported that his mount travelled well until the home turn, however failed to let down in the home straight. He further added that in his opinion, the filly may appreciate a step down in distance.
PEE BEE NOIR – Leaving the 1300m, was forced wider and inconvenienced by JILLAROO (USA). Jockey A. Jones the rider of JILLAROO (USA) was reprimanded pursuant AR 131(a) for careless riding. Near the 200m, was momentarily inconvenienced by LARUSSOwhich shifted in under riding. Jockey J. Bayliss the rider of LARUSSO reprimanded under AR 131(a) for careless riding.
VORTEXIA – Raced wide until approaching the 1000m.
STAR ANTHEM – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn.
Race 5: QCF CHARITY RACEDAY 19 JULY BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1640 M
COIN TOSS – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that COIN TOSS would attempt to settle back. Began awkwardly and settled at the rear of the field.
MISSISSIPPI PRINCE – Inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight.
TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ) – Inconvenienced near the 1400m.
EAGLEMONT (IRE) – Became awkwardly placed at heels approaching the 1400m and had to be steadied.
OCTOBER – Raced wide throughout.
SILVER WARRIOR (SAF) – Tightened and taken inwards approaching the 1400m.
CLASSIQUE GAL – Began awkwardly and was hampered shortly after the start. Approaching the 1400m, became severely crowded and had to be checked and lost ground when SILVER WARRIOR (SAF) was crowded and taken inwards by ARIZONA DREAMING. Jockey D. Smith the rider of ARIZONA DREAMING was found guilty of a charge under AR 131(a) for careless riding, the particulars being that at a point near 1400m, he permitted his mount to shift in, crowding SILVER WARRIOR (SAF) (M. Wishart) down into the rightful running of CLASSIQUE GAL (R. Stewart) causing that runner to be severely crowded, have to be checked and lose its rightful running. Jockey D. Smiths’ license to ride in races was suspended for 12 days commencing midnight the 25th of June and concluding on midnight the 7th of July. Jockey Smith was advised of his appeal rights.
Race 6: LADBROKES FAST PAYOUTS FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1350 M
DREAM LANTERN – Began awkwardly.
MORE LOVE – Near the 600m, was held up and awkwardly placed on the heels of the tiring ROCKETEER GIRL.
ROCKETEER GIRL – Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester reported that his mount never travelled comfortably in today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have the thumps.
JENCHICK BOOM – Raced wide.
LIGHTS OF PARADISE – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
RINGER'S REWARD – Raced wide. Forced wider near the 500m when MORE LOVE shifted out.
PELE PRINCESS – Hampered shortly after the start. Laid in near the 600m.
CHAYSE 'N' ADAM – Began awkwardly. Near the 600m raced in restricted room for a short distance. Jockey R. Dolan was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
KAMARIYA – Began awkwardly.
IRON GRACE – Raced wide. Near the 800m and had to be steadied momentarily when PELE PRINCESS shifted out to improve. Jockey R. Stewart the rider of PELE PRINCESS was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
BENGAL DIAMOND – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 800m, had to be steadied from heels for a number of strides. Held up approaching the home turn.
HELLO IN THERE – Raced in restricted room near the 1100m and had to be steadied from the heels of MORE LOVE which shifted in and away from ROCKETEER GIRL. Forced wider near the 500m when MORE LOVE shifted out.
Race 7: XXXX GOLD COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1350 M
EL PENSADOR – Laid in approaching the 1100m. Near the 150m, improved into a narrow run between HEREDITARY (NZ) and ZOUTHUR (NZ) and consequently, brushed the hindquarters of ZOUTHUR (NZ). Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
AMBASSADORS – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that AMBASSADORS will attempt to lead. Settled midfield, three wide with cover. Raced wide throughout.
CARACORON (NZ) – Raced in restricted room to the inside of EL PENSADOR approaching the 1100m and had to be steadied. Improved onto heels approaching the wining post and was unable to be fully tested.
CRESSBROOK – When question regarding settling in a forward position, Jockey A. Jones advised Stewards that after beginning fairly, she was obliged to take up a more forward position rather than being caught wide. Stewards noted the explanation.
EASTOWN – Blundered at the start and lost ground.
VON BEE (NZ) – When questioned regarding the performance of VON BEE, Apprentice E. Lang reported that she was obliged to make use of her mount in the early stages to take up a forward position rather than be caught wide also adding the gelding may not have appreciated todays racing surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
HAYAKU – Improved onto heels approaching the winning post and was unable to be fully tested.
Race 8: SKY RACING QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1110 M
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by Apprentice C. Vitler the rider of the second placed GIN A TONIC against SIX MORE SONGS (A. Jones) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 100m. Stewards after hearing evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the Stewards patrol footage, found that near the 100m, SIX MORE SONGS began to shift out under pressure and made slight contact to GIN A TONIC near the 70m. Stewards however bearing in mind the margin, the proximity to the winning post and the degree of contact, could not be satisfied that had this incident not have occurred that GIN A TONIC would have finished ahead of SIX MORE SONGS at the conclusion of the event and therefore the objection was dismissed, and correct weight was given on the judges semaphored numbers.
GIN A TONIC – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Brushed near the 70m.
TIGER TIE – Began awkwardly.
DANCE FOR ME RANDY – Hampered shortly after the start. Inclined to lay out throughout.
PARO – Inconvenienced shortly after the start and lost ground.
SIX MORE SONGS – Began awkwardly. Shifted out under pressure leaving the 100m and momentarily brushed with GIN A TONIC near the 70m.
QUEENSTAR – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Gollan advised Stewards that the filly did not appreciate today’s racing surface.
Race 9: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1110 M
EMPEROR – Bumped at the start.
THELWELL – Held up rounding the home turn. Apprentice C. Sutherland dropped his whip near the 50m.
CERTAINLYCAN – Jockey A. Jones dropped her whip near the 200m.
KEEP SAFE – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that KEEP SAFE would attempt to settle with cover. Settled at the rear of the field with cover. Improved onto heels approaching the 100m and was unable to secure clear running for the remainder of the event.
FOURTH SPARGO – Began awkwardly and bumped EMPEROR at the start. Approaching the winning post, momentarily became awkwardly placed at heels.
ARALETTA – Jockey A. Mallyon reported at scale that the mare peaked on its run at the 100m and would derive benefit from today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
