GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 4 – B. Wheeler +0.5kg.

PRE EMINENCE – Apprentice C. Collis reported that his mount had a tendency to lay in during the home straight. Stewards questioned Apprentice C. Collis regarding the tactics adopted in the early and middle stages. Apprentice C. Collis stated that he and along with connections envisioned that the horse would settle in a forward position. When challenged in the early stages to his outside by END ASSEMBLY, he felt that he would be required to overly pressure his mount to hold that runner out from crossing. He further added that he was satisfied with the tempo set in the middle stages and where the gelding had settled. Trainer B. Lockwood advised Stewards that he was disappointed with the tactics adopted in the middle stages as he felt Apprentice C. Collis had failed to maintain contact with the two leading horses which ultimately required the gelding to make up too much ground in the home straight. Stewards advised Apprentice C. Collis that in hindsight he erred in not maintaining closer contact with HAWKER HALL and END ASSEMBLY in the early and middle stages. Stewards noted Apprentice C. Collis’ comments and took no further action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
