GENERAL
 
As rider D. Turner was ill, he was replaced by R. Dolan on STAR CHEVAL in Race 1. Jockey Turner was advised he will required a medical clearance prior to riding again.
 
Stewards approved the following overweight:
Race 3. R. Maloney +0.5kg
 
Apprentice J. Williams was also severely reprimanded pursuant to AR143(12)(b) for failing to have his apprentice winning rides book.
 
RACE 1 - SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE     1350 Metres
 
The start of this race was delayed approximately 4 minutes when STAR CHEVAL and ROSE OF CHANTILLY required resaddling on arrival at the barriers.
 
HIGHLAND KITTY – When laying in approaching the 500m, had to be steadied when close to the heels of STAR CHEVAL and as a result shifted out.
 
SATURDAYS GIRL – As intended last start, connections advised of the intention to be further forward. Settled midfield.
 
BOSSIRI – Shortly after the start, elected to restrain his mount from the wide barrier to settle at the rear of the field.
 
HAD IT ALL – Raced keen early. Rider N. Tomizawa reported that the filly travelled well in the early and middle stages, but when placed under pressure on entering the home straight, HAD IT ALL only responded to his riding fairly and was even to the finish. He added that in his opinion the filly may not have handled the backup after racing on the 15th of July and may appreciate a step up in distance at its next race start.
 
PIPPIE POMAR – Began awkwardly.
 
ROSE OF CHANTILLY – Began awkwardly. 
 
STAR CHEVAL – Began awkwardly. Near the 550m, when weakening, had to be eased when close to the heels of SATURDAYS GIRL (R. Maloney). Jockey Maloney was advised to exercise more care. Eased down in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey R. Dolan could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainer M. Wilson was advised that the nomination of STAR CHEVAL would be refused at Metropolitan level until the filly establishes form at provincial level.
 
STYLISH EDITION – Raced wide without cover throughout. Eased down in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey B. Thompson could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer’s representative B. Killion was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly for today’s poor performance.
 

RACE 2 - BECOME A BRC MEMBER COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE       1350 Metres
 
BOWLING HARRY – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.   
 
CAUTIONARY TAIL -  Began awkwardly.
 
CHANCE DE LUNE – Raced keenly in the early stages, passing the 1100m improved onto heels of COMIN'HOMETOYOU and was steadied outwards, continuing to race keenly for some distance thereafter.
 
COMIN'HOMETOYOU – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HANSAGLORY – Began awkwardly and bumped shortly afterwards.
 
MOSCOW MULE (NZ) – After being slow to begin, hampered by CAUTIONARY TAIL which shifted in after beginning awkwardly. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Rider B. Thompson reported that after beginning only fairly settled further back than intended as he was instructed to settle in a handy position if possible. He added that due to the tempo in the middle stages, he was held up for clear running until shifting out in the straight where he found the line well. He further added that the gelding would derive benefit from today’s event and would appreciate a step up in distance at its next start. A post race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.  
 
MR BETTERMAN – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced wide until the 700m.
 
RUBICK'S SHADOW – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
ST ANDREWS – Bumped on jumping.  Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide without cover from the 700m. 
 
STRENUOUS – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 11.16am when the gelding became cast in the tie-up stalls. Trainer M. Wilson was advised that STRENUOUS will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.        
 

RACE 3 - MEKKA RACEDAY ON SALE NOW QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE         1200 Metres
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, jockey A. Allen rider of fifth placegetter AGADOO lodged an objection against second past the post, BEV’S SPECIAL (F. Larson) alleging interference near the 300m mark. After viewing the patrol footage and considering the evidence presented, Stewards were of the opinion that approaching the 200m, AGADOO became held up on the heels of GOSSAMER GLOW before shifting in to attempt a narrow run which had presented between GOSSAMER GLOW and BEV’S SPECIAL, but was unable to do so, becoming held up on heels before gaining clear running from approaching the 100m. On the evidence Stewards could not be satisfied that any interference suffered by AGADOO would warrant an amendment to the placings and as a result declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.

MISHANI PRINCE – Knuckled on jumping and as a result settled at the rear of the field. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight before shifting in.  
 
PROPHET OF DESTINY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
AGADOO – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight before shifting in approaching the 300m. Was again held up on the heels of GOSSAMER GLOW before shifting in approaching the 200m and being disappointed for a narrow run between GOSSAMER GLOW and BEV’S SPECIAL which had shifted out. Held up for clear running again until approaching the 100m.
 
ARCTIC BRIGHT (NZ) – Inclined to lay out under pressure from the 100m.
 
BEV'S SPECIAL – Stewards acceded to a request for the addition of pre-race earmuffs to the gear for BEV’S SPECIAL. Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith was reprimanded for failing to enact a gear change by the required time. Rider F. Larson reported that his mount raced greenly in the home straight.
 
EMPHATIQUE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
GOSSAMER GLOW – Rider B. Thompson reported that in his opinion, his mount may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer T. Gollan confirmed that GOSSAMER GLOW would now be sent for a spell.

MACHTIG HAVANAGILA – Raced keenly in the early stages. Over raced in the middle stages. Raced wide throughout.     


RACE 4 - XXXX GOLD CLASS 3 PLATE         1200 Metres
 
BRING ME SAKI – Began awkwardly.

RUINS OF ROME – Raced wide from the 800m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first occasion. Co-trainer C. Munce was advised pursuant to AR79(4), RUINS OF ROME shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse, recognised training track, private training establishment, or other place for a period of two months; (b) start in any race for a period of 3 months, and then only after: (i) a gallop of at least 1000 metres; or (ii) an official trial or jump-out; in the presence, and to the satisfaction of a Steward prior to resuming racing.
 
EXTREME DIAMOND – Laid out rounding the turn near the 700m. Held up for clear running for a short distance approaching the home turn. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the second occasion. Connections were advised that the gelding would now incur a lifetime ban from racing under the provisions of AR79(6).
 
NO NAME FRANK – Laid out rounding the turn near the 700m. Laid out rounding the home turn. Approaching the 400m, was momentarily tightened to the outside of EXTEME DIAMOND (B. Thompson). Jockey Thompson was advised to exercise further care. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first occasion. Trainer L. Gough was advised pursuant to AR79(4), NO NAME FRANK shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse, recognised training track, private training establishment, or other place for a period of two months; (b) start in any race for a period of 3 months, and then only after: (i) a gallop of at least 1000 metres; or (ii) an official trial or jump-out; in the presence, and to the satisfaction of a Steward prior to resuming racing.
 
ACAPULCO GIRL (NZ) – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
BLUE ALLURE – Slow into stride. Approaching the 50m, was hampered and carried in slightly by NO NAME FRANK which was shifting in under pressure.
 
 

RACE 5 - DRINKWISE FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP        1350 Metres
 
SIESTA – Keen early.
 
ECHO HUNTER – Approaching the 150m, shifted in and bumped with ANARITA.
 
ANARITA – Keen early. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until passing the 300m. Bumped by ECHO HUNTER then shifted in and brushed with SPIRIT OF NURAI passing the 150m.
 
GAGNANTE ENCHERE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until passing the 300m. Laid in under pressure from there onwards.
 
SPIRIT OF NURAI – Brushed passing the 150m.
 
MOSAMOUR (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Commenced a three wide run from the 700m. Weakened from the 300m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a cardiac arrythmia. Trainer’s representative B. Killion was advised of the provisions of the Racing Australia Code of Practice for cardiac arrythmia.  

FLAXLANDS – Change of tactics – to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
 
SHEDRIVESABENTLEY – Began awkwardly than hampered when close to the heels of FLAXLANDS. Raced keen early. Approaching the 800m, when racing keenly, improved onto heels of GAGNANTE ENCHERE and was eased. 
 

RACE 6 - COUNTRY MUSIC RACEDAY ON SALE NOW COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP   1350 Metres
 
NAILS AND PRIDE – Declared a late scratching at 11.44am on veterinary advice due to an elevated temperature. Trainer M. Wilson was advised that NAILS AND PRIDE will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
GRAND CRUSADER – Shifted out on jumping.
 
HOLY FLASH – Carried in approaching the 1000m by ARTFUL PERSUASION (J. Franklin). Apprentice J. Franklin was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until the 200m.
 
BARELLO – Slow to begin.

FORT WILLIAM – Bounded on jumping. Raced keen in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ARTISTIC ENDEAVOUR – Raced keen whilst being restrained in the early stages. Raced wide in the early stages. Approaching the 800m, bumped and carried wider by FORT WILLIAM which had shifted out whilst racing keenly.


RACE 7 - SKY RACING CLASS 5 HANDICAP            1110 Metres
 
FACUNDO – Held up for clear running from entering the home straight until passing the 200m.
 
MISHANI CROWN – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Passing the winning post, raced in restricted room and had to be steadied when close to the heels of SUPER DAISY which when racing in restricted room brushed and was carried in by PALEFACE RINGO (M. Hellyer). Jockey M. Hellyer was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.    
 
PALEFACE RINGO – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
CARRAVILLA – Held up for clear running approaching the 200m until the 150m.

SUPER DAISY – Raced in restricted room passing the winning post when taken in by PALEFACE RINGO.
 
APOLLO TEN – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages.   
 
BECAMO – Stood flatfooted as the start was effected (3L). Trainer S. Dwyer was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for being slow to begin.


RACE 8 - LADBROKES PUNTER ASSIST BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP             1650 Metres
 
LUTON HOO (NZ) – Over raced whilst being restrained in the early stages. Raced keen in the middle stages. Apprentice J. Williams was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out fully to the line.
 
THE CATCH – Began awkwardly.
 
MISS CHASTAIN (IRE) – Held up for clear running from entering the home straight until passing the 200m.

KUNDABUNG (NZ) – Change of tactics – to be ridden further back if circumstances permit. After beginning well, settled in a forward position. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in throughout. Commenced to weaken from the 300m. Eased down from the 150m. Rider R. Maloney reported as advertised, he was instructed to settle further back than KUDABUNG had raced previously. He added that after beginning well his mount wanted to race keenly and with horses to his inside failing to show early speed, he settled forward. When asked about the overall performance of the gelding, R Maloney explained that his mount raced keenly and wanted to lay in throughout, which he felt was detrimental to the overall performance. Stewards noted his comments. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

READY TO IGNITE – Hampered on jumping. Approaching the 1400m, whilst racing keenly, had to be eased after racing close to the heels of KUNDABUNG.
 
ZOUSLAYER – Began awkwardly. Rider M. Du Plessis reported his mount was inclined to over race in the early and middle stages. When questioned on the tactics adopted, M Du Plessis explained that his mount wanted to race keenly and commenced to over race in the early stage and so he allowed his mount to stride forward to allow it to settle. He added that he reported to the trainer that ZOUSLAYER would appreciated racing over shorter distances than today’s event, which would allow the gelding to travel at a faster tempo.
