Stewards approved the following overweight:
Race 9: J. McDonald +1kg (56.5kg)
Stewards inspected the track and upgraded it to a Soft 5 at 10:28am.
As Jockey B. Allen was ill and not riding at today’s meeting, he was replaced as per the race day summary. Jockey B. Allen was advised that a medical certificate would be required prior to racing again.
As Apprentice B. Wheeler was not riding at today’s meeting for acceptable reasons, he was replaced on VIMINELE by K. Wilson-Taylor in Race 1.
As Jockey J. Bayliss was dually engaged at Rosehill and Eagle Farm, he was fined $200 pursuant to AR 127(1) for failing to fulfil a riding engagement.
Co-trainer J. Symons was fined $200 pursuant to AR 106(2) for presenting MACEDON MISSION in Race 4 to the mounting yard with pre-race earmuffs which is not a part of its approved gear.
RACE 1: DRINKWISE BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1400M
WARBY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up for clear running leaving the 300m and was obliged to shift in to improve. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to its near hindleg.
IRON MAN – Raced wide.
BOYS NIGHT OUT – Raced wide.
HIDDEN ACHIEVEMENT - Connections advised a change of tactics – settle midfield. Settled back of midfield. Raced in restricted room leaving the 600m. Momentarily inconvenienced on straightening, having its hindquarters contacted by PASIMA, which was attempting to improve. Lost its off fore plate. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. McDonald reported that the colt raced greenly throughout and proved slightly disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
PASIMA – Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 1100m to the inside of BOYS NIGHT OUT, which shifted in before being corrected. Approaching the 700m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of the weakening BOYS NIGHT OUT. Raced wide. Raced in restricted room on entering the home straight.
SWISS EXILE – Passing the 250m, momentarily inconvenienced, being carried inwards by WARBY, which shifted in to improve.
EYE OF THE EAGLE – Slow to begin.
I AM CARROT – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. King reported that the gelding failed to let down as expected in the home straight and in her opinion may not have appreciated today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
RACE 2: KILCOY GLOBAL FOODS BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1000M
BELEGATO (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide. Laid in in the early part of the home straight.
MANOLO BLING - Raced wide.
LYLES – Raced wide. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
TIGER TIE – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey T. Fenlon reported that being first up, in her opinion TIGER TIE would derive benefit from today’s race. She further added that when placed under pressure, the gelding weakened noticeably and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
PETTICOAT – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported that the mare became agitated prior to the start which may have had a detrimental effect on its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a post-race cough. Trainer B. Dodson was advised that a veterinary certificate along with the results of an endoscopic examination would be required prior to racing again.
SILVER WEDDING – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
BONFIRE SPARK – Raced wide. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
SUPER DAISY – Laid out rounding the turn passing the 600m.
SWORDPLAY – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. King reported that in her opinion, SWORDPLAY raced flat and further added that the filly tends to perform best on firmer surfaces. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to its near hindleg. Lost its near hind plate.
RACE 3: LIVING TURF PREMIER'S CUP 2400M
ROYAL SUPREMACY (IRE) – Blundered on jumping away. Laid in throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
ALALCANCE (GB) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ETNA ROSSO (IRE) – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the home straight, Jockey B. Melham reported that on straightening, ETNA ROSSO (IRE) commenced to lay in whilst weakening and rather than fight his mount, he allowed the gelding to shift in rather than have to halt its momentum.
NEWLOOK (FR) – Began awkwardly and contacted the outside barrier partition on jumping away.
WALSH BAY – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped WEALDSTONE. Leaving the 500m, had to be steadied after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of ETNA ROSSO (IRE), which was carried out by BELLA MONTAGNA (NZ), which was carried out marginally by ATHABASCAN (FR), which shifted out at the point of the turn.
HIGHLAND BLING (IRE) – When asked to comment on the performance, in particular settling at the rear of the field, Jockey B. Thompson explained that after jumping away only fairly and being trapped wide in the early stages, rather than pressure his mount in an attempt to obtain a forward position, he elected to restrain HIGHLAND BLING (IRE) leaving the 1800m to take up a position at the rear of the field. He further added that when placed under pressure from the 600m, he was unable to make ground on the leaders and ran to the line only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer P. Stokes was advised to report back on the condition of HIGHLAND BLING (IRE) in the days subsequent.
WEALDSTONE – Hampered on jumping away.
RACE 4: THE STRAIGHT SIRES' PRODUCE 1400M
VANTORIX – Raced wide. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
BLIND RAISE (NZ) – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Commenced to race fiercely whilst being restrained to obtain a position with cover leaving the 900m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey N. Rawiller reported that when asked for an effort the gelding failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and nasal discharge. Co-trainers Busuttin and Young were advised that a veterinary certificate inclusive of an endoscopic examination would be required prior to racing again.
SILKEN SALUTE (NZ) - Raced wide.
MARTIST – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
STORMY MARCO – Raced in restricted room shortly after jumping away and was obliged to steady. Passing the 150m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MARTIST, which was attempting to improve into a run to the inside of VANTORIX, as that gelding commenced to shift in under pressure. Jockey M. Zahra the rider of MARTIST was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
KICKUP ROCKY -. Leaving the 900m, was hampered and carried out by I AM DIRTY, which was obliged to shift out after becoming awkwardly placed on heels. Raced wide.
MACEDON MISSION – Leaving the 900m, was disappointed for a run when attempting to shift out to improve and as a result, contacted the hindquarters of SILKEN SALUTE (NZ), before shifting back into a position one of the fence.
QUARTERBACK (NZ) – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped I AM DIRTY.
BERZELIUS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
HOME TOMURRA - Raced wide.
DREAM ROCA (NZ) – Had difficulty obtaining clear running leaving the 200m and was held up until inside the final 50m.
I AM DIRTY – Bumped on jumping away. Leaving the 900m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of MACEDON MISSIONand was obliged to shift out. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. King reported that the filly raced flat and may have come to end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
LEAVES OF LORIEN – Declared a late scratching at 9:26am on veterinary advice. Trainer J. Moore was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
GIRMAY – Obliged to steady when racing in restricted room approaching the 200m between STORMY MARCO and DREAM ROCA (NZ).
RACE 5: LORD MAYOR'S CUP 1800M
TAVI TIME (NZ) – When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey T. Berry reported that in his opinion the gelding was required to do too much work circling the field and when placed under pressure in the straight, failed to quicken as expected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainers representative M. Eggleston was advised to report back on the condition of TAVI TIME (NZ) in the days subsequent.
FUTURE HISTORY (GB) – Obliged to alter course on entering the home straight and shifted out.
ATHANATOS – Began awkwardly.
MILITARIZE (NZ) – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
PRINCE LEVI – Began awkwardly.
THE DROVER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was found to be lame on its near foreleg. Subsequently, was declared a late scratching at 12:30pm on veterinary advice. Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
RACE 6: MULLINS LAWYERS FRED BEST CLASSIC 1400M
GRAFTERBURNERS – Shifted out on jumping away. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey A. Hyeronimus reported that the colt failed to quicken as expected from the 200m and in his opinion may be better suited to a step back in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainer K. Schweida advised that the colt would now be sent fir a spell.
SIXTIES - Raced wide.
BEADMAN – Raced wide. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BRAVE MONARCH – Bumped on jumping away. Raced in restricted room passing the 800m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey M. Harley was fined $200 pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using his whip above shoulder height.
WODETON - Connections advised a change of tactics – settle midfield. Slow to begin and was then hampered. Raced wide.
FABULANTES – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
BURMA STAR - Connections advised a change of tactics – settle midfield.
SKYGLIDER – Began awkwardly, lost ground and was then hampered.

RACE 7: SKY RACING QUEENSLAND DERBY 2400M
KILMAN (NZ) – Shifted in on jumping away.
ONE STEP CLOSER – Connections advised a change of tactics – settle further forward. Ridden accordingly.
DIFFERENT GRAVY – Shifted out on jumping away and bumped ACCIDENTAL BID (GB).
PROVIDENCE – Laid in over the concluding stages.
MONOPOLISTIC (NZ) – Laid in over the concluding stages,
SOUTHERN PRINCE – Shifted out on jumping away.
AMAZAKE – Connections advised a change of tactics – settle further forward. Ridden accordingly. Raced wide.
ACCIDENTAL BID (GB) – Bumped on jumping away. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Allen reported that the gelding raced flat and failed to respond when asked for an effort in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed clinical signs of the thumps.
FALCON LAIR – Jockey A. Hyeronimus was dislodged after the winning post. Jockey A. Hyeronimus was examined by QAS officials and cleared to fulfil his remaining riding engagements.
MICHELANGELO – Began awkwardly. Raced wide. Obliged to steady leaving the 300m when tightened for room by MONOPOLISTIC (NZ) which shifted out to improve.
CHILLIES – Inconvenienced on jumping away.
INSPIRED LEGEND – Began awkwardly. Laid in over the concluding stages.
SOLID GOLD (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today of obtaining a forward position, Jockey T. Berry explained that the filly was having its second Australian start, and he was advised by Co-Trainer R. James to attempt to settle where comfortable. He continued; after jumping well and being trapped wide in the early stages, he was unable to take up a position midfield where he felt would be preferable, and as such elected to ride forward and take up a position outside of the lead. He further added that as runners improved their positions around him, he was able to obtain cover, however, when placed under pressure, his mount failed to quicken and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Co-trainer R. James was advised to report back on the condition of SOLID GOLD (NZ) in the days subsequent.
RACE 8: LADBROKES KINGSFORD SMITH CUP 1300M
JIMMYSSTAR (NZ) – Connections advised a change of tactics – settle further forward. Ridden accordingly. Raced wide.
ROTHFIRE – Held up from the 500m and was unable to obtain clear running until the 200m. Laid in under pressure.
PRIVATE EYE – Momentarily inconvenienced leaving the 300m.
ANOTHER WIL - Connections advised a change of tactics – settle further forward. Ridden accordingly. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
DESERT LIGHTNING (NZ) - Raced wide.

TRANSATLANTIC – Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages between HEADLEY GRANGE and ANOTHER WIL, which shifted in.
HEADLEY GRANGE – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Passing the 300m, shifted in to obtain clear running and in doing so, bumped PRIVATE EYE.
YELLOW BRICK – Over-raced in the middle stages. Raced wide. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey T. Berry reported that the gelding over-raced throughout and as such, proved disappointing when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
KING OF ROSEAU - Raced wide.

NAPOLEONIC – Raced wide. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Zahra reported that in his opinion the colt is better suited over shorter distances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
