GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 5: M. Rodd +0.5kg (55.5kg)
As Apprentice J. Williams was unable to make the allocated weight in Race 1, he was replaced on VIKING INVASIONS by J. McMurray. Apprentice J. Williams was fined $200 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
As Jockey D. Moor was unable to make the allocated weight in Race 3, he was replaced on EMPEROR by B. Thompson. Jockey D. Moor was reprimanded pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. In assessing an appropriate penalty stewards considered Jockey Moors excellent prior record.
Trainer A. Campton was fined $300 pursuant to LR 36(6) for failing to scratch BENGAL DIAMOND by the prescribed time which was a dual acceptor in Races 6 and 7.
RACE 1:MITTYS BENCHMARK 90 HANDICAP 1810 M
ZOOLOGY (GB) – Passing the 1200m, shifted out when the pace of the race slackened and raced three wide for the remainder of the event. Momentarily inconvenienced on entering the home straight.
THE DROVER – Slow to begin.
KALUAKOI – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
EXPRESS PAYMENT – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
DIAMOND EPIC – Jockey C. Graham reported at scale that DIAMOND EPIC travelled well however when placed under pressure failed to quicken as expected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
SWELTERING – Began awkwardly.
CAVALRY MAN – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages. Laid in in the early part of the home straight. Commenced to shift out passing the 100m before being corrected approaching the winning post.
TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages.
RACE 2:PLACE ASCOT BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1200 M
I AM ARTIE – Raced wide.
CASPERNOVA – Began awkwardly and was then hampered. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift in to improve.
NOW IS THE HOUR - Jockey T. Berry reported at scale that NOW IS THE HOUR travelled well throughout however, when asked for an effort prior to straightening, weakened noticeably. He further added that the gelding felt fine in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and mild right nasal discharge. Trainers representative advised that NOW IS THE HOUR will undergo an endoscopic examination on return to the stable with the results to be sent to the stewards.
VERDOUX – Jockey D. Stackhouse was fined $200 pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using his whip above shoulder height.
NAVAL TRADER – Lost its near fore plate.
SHE'S EXOTIC – Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 700m.
RACE 3:MORETON HIRE LIGHTNING HANDICAP 1000 M
FLYING DESTINY - Obliged to alter course shortly after straightening and shifted in to improve into clear running.
GOLDEN BOOM – Raced wide.
STEADY READY – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
MONTE SUPREME – Slow to begin.
SUNRISE (NZ) – Began awkwardly and was then hampered.
PRE EMINENCE – Began awkwardly and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
TONKIN – Raced wide. Jockey C. Williams reported at scale that it was his intention to settle further forward, however after beginning only fairly was obliged to settle further back and raced three wide. He further added that when asked for an effort, TONKIN failed to respond to his riding and made respiratory noises upon pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed upper respiratory noises. Co. Trainers A. & S. Freedman were advised that a veterinary certificate inclusive of endoscopic results would be required prior to racing again.
LET'SFACETHEMUSIC – Commenced to over-race after becoming awkwardly placed at heels passing the 800m.
RACE 4:THE SHOW A HEART 1500 M
BACIAMI – Hampered shortly after the start.
ALTO LUNA – Over-raced early.
GLENORCHY – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift in to improve.
NO WALLET REG – Laid in under pressure for a short distance passing the 300m.
SHINTONO (NZ) – Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 300m to the inside of NO WALLET REG, which laid in under pressure. Jockey J. Melham was reprimanded pursuant to AR232(c)(i) for failing to follow sighting protocols at Eagle Farm.
VANZADEE (NZ) – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Jockey C. Williams was reprimanded pursuant to AR232(c)(i) for failing to follow sighting protocols at Eagle Farm.
After the running of this race, Stewards upgraded the track to a Good 4 at 1:38pm.
RACE 5:XXXX QUEENSLAND DAY STAKES 1200 M
PLATINUM PANTHEON – Raced wide.
VENOM RUSH – Raced wide.
AGARWOOD – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Leaving the 200m, shifted in before being corrected. Passing the 50m, was again corrected before shifting in abruptly, making heavy contact with FOREIGN PRESS approaching the winning post.
FOREIGN PRESS – Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the winning post and prior to the line, was heavily bumped by AGARWOOD, which shifted in and away from PLATINUM PANTHEON, which improved to that runners outside.
SYLPH – Checked on jumping away and lost ground. Commenced to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages, resulting in the filly becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of CHAINS OF LOVE and when approaching the winning post was unable to be ridden to the line. Lost its near fore plate. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
SMEXY – Connections advised a change of tactics – settle further back. Ridden accordingly. Raced wide.
MERCY ME - Shifted in on jumping away and bumped SEQUISTA, resulting in MERCY ME having its hindquarters turned outwards. Approaching the 1000m, commenced to over-race when racing in restricted room for a short distance. Leaving the 300m was obliged to alter course and shift in to improve into clear running.
SEQUISTA – Shifted out on jumping away and bumped MERCY ME, resulting in SEQUISTA becoming momentarily unbalanced and having its hindquarters turned inwards. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Attempted to shift in leaving the 300m and was obliged to alter course passing the 200m and shift out. Shortly after doing so, became awkwardly placed at the heels of AGARWOOD, which commenced to lay in under pressure, resulting in SEQUISTA becoming awkwardly placed at heels and was unable to be fully tested in the run to the finish.
SWORD OF LEGACY - Commenced to over-race when being restrained to attempt to obtain a position with cover leaving the 1000m. Raced wide.
CRASH THE PARTY - Over-raced in the middle stages. Raced wide.
CHAINS OF LOVE – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
BETTER NOT SLIP – Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 1000m and was obliged to steady. Disappointed when attempting to shift out on entering the home straight to improve into clear running. Approaching the 100m, when attempting to shift out to improve into clear running, raced in restricted room for a short distance.
RACE 6:MAGIC MILLIONS NATIONAL CLASSIC 1600 M
CHURCHILL'S CHOICE – Buffeted on a number of occasions leaving the 900m and was carried into a position one off the fence by DECLICHY BOULEVARD, which shifted in to obtain cover. Obliged to alter course passing the 50m after improving onto the heels of SURFIN' BIRD. When questioned regarding the performance of CHURCHILL'S CHOICE, Jockey R. Bayliss reported that it was his intention to maintain a position two off the fence leaving the 1200m, however was obliged to take up a position one off the fence after DECLICHY BOULEVARD improved to his outside. He added that in his opinion CHURCHILL'S CHOICE does not appreciate racing in restricted room, which was detrimental to the mare responding to his riding passing the 600m. Jockey R. Bayliss further added that his mount commenced to quicken from the 200m and finished the race off strongly.
PINITO - Raced wide. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Jockey B. Melham could offer no explanation other than being trapped three wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
EXOTIQUE MISS – Raced wide. Raced in restricted room leaving the 300m whilst weakening.
DECLICHY BOULEVARD - Raced wide.
OUR QUEEN (IRE) – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
BENGAL DIAMOND - Jockey B. Thompson was reprimanded pursuant to AR232(c)(i) for failing to follow sighting protocols at Eagle Farm.
RACE 7:SKY RACING SPEAR CHIEF HANDICAP 1500 M
KRONENBOURG (NZ) – Shifted in on jumping away.
PORT LOCKROY – Hampered at the start.
RISING PACIFIC (NZ) – Leaving the 1200m, raced in restricted room whilst over-racing.
KING ZEPHYR – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on KING ZEPHYR, Jockey C. Williams reported that he was instructed to ride the gelding back as per its established racing pattern. After jumping well from an outside barrier, he attempted to settle in a position worse than midfield to the outside of RISING PACIFIC, however leaving the 1200m, he was forced to maintain a three wide position after MICKEY'S MEDAL improved to the inside of RISING PACIFIC. Jockey C. Williams further added that his mount commenced to over-race when attempting to restrain to obtain cover at the rear of the field leaving the 1100m and as such was forced to race wide throughout. Jockey C. Williams further added that given the tough run, he was pleased with the finishing efforts of the gelding. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
SHADIZI (FR) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame on its near foreleg. Trainer C. Waller was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
CRANKY HARRY – Began awkwardly. Passing the 150m raced in restricted room for a short distance whilst weakening. Lost its off fore plate.
RACE 8:SEVEN QUEENSLAND OAKS 2200 M
PANOVA – Over-raced in the middle stages and leaving the 1200m had to be steadied after improving onto heels.
SINGLE RED (NZ) – Hampered and carried wider approaching the 600m by ZULEIKA, which shifted out to improve.
FIREBALL MISS – Shifted out on jumping away and bumped HIGHGROVE ROSE. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
SILVASISTA – Raced in restricted room passing the winning post on the first occasion. Leaving the 150m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room between CHISPA (NZ) and SOVERATO (NZ), which was carried out by GRAND OMAHA, which shifted out under riding, resulting in SILVASISTA having to be restrained and lose its rightful running. Jockey M. Zahra the rider of pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless riding. Stewards adjourned the inquiry at the request of M. Zahra due to his transport commitments to a date and time to be fixed.
SOVERATO (NZ) - Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Leaving the 150m, was hampered and carried out by GRAND OMAHA, which shifted out under riding.
GRAND OMAHA – Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 1400m.
CHISPA (NZ) – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped HIGHGROVE ROSE. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight until leaving the 300m. Passing the 150m, had its hindquarters turned by PARVENU (NZ), which shifted in and shortly thereafter was severely hampered, having its hindquarters turned by SILVASISTA, which was carried out under riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an abrasion to its off-hind fetlock.
FRINGES (NZ) - Lost its off-hind plate.
SOLID GOLD (NZ) – Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 150m.
PARVENU (NZ) – Leaving the 150m, shifted in, contacting CHISPA (NZ) resulting in PARVENU (NZ) becoming awkward in its stride for a short distance.
ZULEIKA - Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 100m after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of SILVASISTA, which was obliged to steady.
PANDA'S SPECTRUM – Reared as the start was effected. Lost its off-hind plate. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to its off hindleg.
HIGHGROVE ROSE – Bumped on jumping away. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
TARNTANYA – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
SHEEZA DIVA – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
RACE 9:LADBROKES MORETON CUP 1200 M
MANAAL – Raced in restricted room on entering the home straight and passing the 150m was disappointed for a run which closed between UNCOMMON JAMES and BOOMTOWN BOSS. Passing the 100m was obliged to shift out to improve.
IN FLIGHT – Leaving the 1000m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of MANAAL.
KING OF SPARTA – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Collett reported that the gelding was inclined to over-race, which in his opinion had a detrimental effect on its finishing efforts and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
ESJAY – Over-raced in the middle stages and approaching the 600m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of THE INFLICTOR.
