General
When Jockey S McGovern was ill, replacements were made as per the Stewards Summary. Jockey McGovern was advised that he would require a medical certificate prior to his next riding engagements.
Race 1: XXXX Maiden Plate- 1000 metres
Rauchy Col- Slow to begin and jumped outwards.
Seide Track- Raced 3 wide throughout.
Race 2: Jim Arthur Memorial Class B Handicap- 1000 metres
Willie’s Cloud- The late declaration of rider for was accepted. As Jockey McGovern was ill. S. Sheargold was the replacement rider for the mare. Near 100 metres, when another runner laid in, had to be eased.
Double Rich- Made contact with another runner at the start.
San Dieguito- At the start, made contact with another runner. Near the 300 metres, made contact with another runner, become unbalanced and commenced to lose ground. Regarding performance, rider stated at its previous start, gelding had been able to lead easily, however was not suited by the track surface today.
Blinkin Hasty- At the start when it shifted out, made contact with another runner. Raced wide throughout.
Naval Belle- Shifted out at the start. Raced wide throughout.
Indy’s Bullion- Near the 100 metres, laid in for a short distance.
Roar Abliberty- Shifted out under pressure in the concluding stages.
Race 3: CQ Saddlery Class 3 Plate - 1200 metres
Jungle Spirit- Slow into stride.
You’re Mine- Began a little awkwardly and lost some ground.
Craiglea Evita- At the start, made contact with another runner.
Great Dansaar- Made contact with another runner at the start, raced wide in the early stages.
Cold Collect- Near 900 metres, shifted in when not quite clear of another runner. Rider advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Regard performance, Apprentice stated the mare was disappointing and had difficulty in leading. When able to be settled, it was then pressured by a runner to its outside. Also stated the mare had not travelled well on the rain affected track surface today.
Clasped- Near 900 metres, eased when another runner shifted in.
Subsequent to the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Soft (5) retrospectively.
Race 4: Wilson Survey Group Open Handicap- 1300 metres
Ivanhoe- Began awkwardly and made contact with another runner. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
Desert Playboy- Contacted by another runner at the start. Rider reported that the gelding had been inclined to hang out throughout and does not handle grass track surfaces. A post-race veterinary inspection did not reveal any abnormalities.
Mistablista- Jumped awkwardly and made contact with the hindquarters of another runner.
Fickle Business- Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
Smart Partol- Questioned regarding riding tactics. Apprentice stated gelding had began well, and due to the pace of the race, had attempted to obtain cover. Further stated gelding had not handled the wet track surface and was inclined to hang out throughout. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
Race 5: Keato’s Signs BM 60 Handicap - 1615 metres
Following his ride in Race 4, Jockey S McCullum did not wish to fulfil his engagement on Hayil Matador. Trainer G Teal was satisfied to replace Jockey McCullum and Stewards permitted Jockey J Lait to be the replacement rider. Jockey McCullum pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 85B for failing to fulfil his engagement and was fined $100.
Telesius- Began awkwardly and lost ground and raced at rear of the field. Regarding performance, Apprentice stated gelding had raced flat and may have come to the end of it preparation. Connection indicated it was the intention to spell the gelding.
Spirit of Many- Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
Tasteofenergy- Slow to begin.
Hayil Matador- A post-race veterinary inspection did not reveal any significant abnormalities.
Transpire- A post-race veterinary inspection revealed a suspected tendon injury to its near foreleg. A veterinary certificate will be required prior to its next race start.
