GENERAL:
Jockey Ms N Summers did not ride at today’s meeting for personal reasons. Rider replacements were made as per summary sheet.
RACE 1: Highland Meats Class B Handicap 1000m
EXCLUSIVE KITTY – Due to a technical error with Risa was not listed as a late scratching at 8.37am when done so by the trainer for not loading into the float. After being unsuccessful to contact the trainer was declared a late scratching by Stewards at 1.15pm due to non-arrival at the track. All bets on EXCLUSIVE KITTY to be refunded in full and all other bets made prior to 1.15pm were subject to deductions of 8 cents/win for winner, 9 cents/place for winner, 9 cents/place for second and 9 cents/place for third.
ESPRIT LIGHT – Declared a late scratching at 1.35pm after refusing to be loaded into the barriers. All bets on ESPRIT LIGHT to be refunded in full and bets made after 1.15pm and prior to 1.35pm were subject to deduction of 36 cents/win for winner, 22 cents/place for winner, 22 cents/place for second and 22 cents/place for third. Trainer Mr T Williams was advised that a further barrier certificate would be required prior to racing again.
RAVELLING – Began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with another runner. After racing near the lead tired badly in the straight. When questioned, rider C McIver said the mare was disappointing. Post-race vet examination revealed no abnormalities.
ELLE STYLE – Hampered by another runner shortly after the start.
CAUGHT SWITCHING – Rider S Sheargold was permitted to ride 0.5kg overweight.
Jumped inwards at the start, making heavy contact with another runner.
CUBAN SONG – Hampered at the start after being bumped by another runner.
CASH FOR MURTAL – Had to be steadied at the 800m mark when crowded for room by another runner. D Evans, rider of SISTER WHISKEY, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
THAT’S THE PLAN – Hampered shortly after the start and was then held up for clear running from the 300m to the finish line.
SISTER WHISKEY – Brushed by another runner over the concluding stages
Prior to correct weight connections and rider of second placed horse viewed the video footage to determine whether they had grounds to lodge a protest against the winner. After viewing the film they did not proceed any further and correct weight was declared.
RACE 2: Russell Jackson Painting Maiden Plate 1100m
DRAG WAY – Declared a late scratching at 2.15pm after dislodging its rider on the way to the barriers. All bets placed on DRAG WAY prior to 2.15pm were refunded in full and deductions were 23 cents/win for winner, 23 cents/place for winner and 23 cents/place for second. After dislodging the jockey DRAG WAY jumped the outside running rail and escaped out of the confines of the track and after being captured some time later was brought back to the track where it underwent a vet examination, which found no injuries. An incident report was completed for the club by the vet. Trainer Mr R Woods was advised that a warning was placed on the mare regarding its pre-race manners.
DRAGON TOPS – Rider reported that the saddle shifted forward in the early stages of the event, placing him in some difficulty. Raced three-wide with no cover throughout the event.
ON THE BID – Had to be steadied off heels in the early stages.
After being dislodged from DRAG WAY, rider S McCullum was examined by the ambulance officers and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
RACE 3: Keato’s Signs Class 3 Plate 1100m
MIGHTY SAVANNAH – Had to be steadied off heels around the home turn.
HEARTY CLANG – Had to be steadied off heels around the home turn.
MIDNIGHT STALKER – Shifted out abruptly rounding the home turn. Rider S McCullum was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift outwards.
RACE 4: P & J Young Concrete & Construction Class 1 Handicap 1300m
HAYYLER’S AFFAIR – Slow to jump. Blundered just after jumping when it got onto the heels of another runner.
MAGIC TWIST – Slow into stride.
BAY HERO – Jumped inwards at the start and made contact with another runner.
RACE 5: Hot FM Benchmark 70 Handicap 1300m
LEO’S SPIRIT – Had to be steadied at the 800m mark when placed awkwardly on the heels of another runner. When questioned regarding the performance, rider D Simmons explained that the gelding was reluctant to travel in the early stages of the race despite the his urgings, but in the final 400m of the event finished the race off well. Stewards noted the explanation.
SET TO POUNCE – Shifted in at the 800m mark despite the efforts of the rider, making slight contact with another runner.
