The start was delayed when Jockey A Best was kicked by WICKED SNIPPETS in the enclosure. As a consequence Jockey Best was replaced by Jockey J Morris.
The announcement of correct weight was delayed whilst Jockey A Hearn (REAL NAUGHTY) the 3rd placegetter, viewed the patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against INFINITE LEE the 2nd placegetter, on the grounds of interference near the 300m. After viewing the patrol footage Jockey Hearn elected not to proceed with an objection. Stewards also gave consideration to lodging an objection on behalf of the connections of REAL NAUGHTY. However, given the official margin of 1 length between INFINITE LEE and REAL NAUGHTY they could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference had a material effect on the placings and subsequently declared correct weight.

MAJESTIC SOUND: Jockey Morris reported that he was specifically instructed to position the gelding without cover particularly if the tempo was slow as it had shown a tendency to over-race in previous races. Jockey Morris added that for this reason he elected to shift 3 wide passing the 1200m and then continued to race wide for the remainder of the race. His explanation was noted.
PATENT PENDING: Jockey M Hellyer reported that the gelding, which tailed off, failed to travel comfortably in the prevailing track conditions. However he was also of the view that something was amiss with the gelding so elected to ease it down over the final 400m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.
GO AS YOU PLEASE: When questioned as to the tactics adopted, Jockey B El-Issa stated that the trainer had advised him pre-race that the gelding had performed well in the past when leading or ridden towards the rear of the field. Jockey El-Issa added that as there were no specific instructions he elected to push forward from the wide barrier in the early stages due to the slow tempo and was able to cross to the lead with relative ease. Stewards noted his explanation.
App. A Hearn (POPSTAR PETE) was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

When questioned as to the performance, App. J Johnson expressed her disappointment in the mare’s performance and indicated that it would now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer B Guy will be advised that the results of an ECG along with an official trial will be required before its next race start.
SPEED TO BERN: Presented to race in race plates and not the advertised hoof pads and subsequently raced in race plates. Public announcements were made to this effect. Trainer T Bailey was fined the sum of $100. Jockey A Spinks reported that the mare slipped on jumping away and failed to muster speed in the early stages despite his efforts. He added that the mare then raced ungenerously for some distance passing the 800m and in his opinion did not handle the prevailing track conditions.
REGAL TRADER: When questioned as to the improved performance trainer M Wilson stated that he had not been disappointed in the gelding’s second up performance two starts ago where it weakened over the concluding stages after leading throughout. Mr Wilson added that at its last start the gelding had been caught wide early and was restrained to obtain cover at the rear of the field and then failed to run on. Mr Wilson also stated that blood tests taken after its last start indicated that the gelding may have been suffering from a low grade virus. Whilst noting the explanation Stewards reminded Mr Wilson of his obligation to report any matter which may have had an effect on the horse’s performance.
