Trainer advised the horse would now be sent for a spell.

REAL NAUGHTY – Began awkwardly and shifted out making heavy contact with DAGGA BOY.

ALLON ZEE – Bumped on jumping away.

INFINITE LEE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer B Currie will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required before the filly races again.

After the running of Race 1, the track was upgraded to a Soft 5.

MAJESTIC SOUND – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

SCARBOROUGH – Raced wide throughout.

HOME TO THE BRIDE – Near the 500m had to be steadied from the heels of the tiring MAJESTIC SOUND.

METEOROLOGIST – When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance of the gelding, Trainer M Wilson stated that he had not been disappointed in its last start where from a wide barrier it was forced to race further back than anticipated and ran on well. Mr Wilson added that he was critical of the Jockey’s ride at its previous start at Doomben, however, he did concede that METEOROLOGIST did not race well at Doomben. Mr Wilson also noted that the gelding had always performed best over today’s distance of 1800m at the Gold Coast where it is trained. His explanation was noted.

Jockey J Byrne (METEOROLOGIST) was fined the sum of $200 for excessive use of his whip in a forehand manner and in consecutive strides prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account Jockey Byrne’s good record.

NICKY NOCKY – Steadied when tightened for room by ATHENA FIRE (T Bell) near the 900m. Jockey Bell was advised to exercise more care in future. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer A Willick stated that the mare failed to travel comfortably at its last start in the early and middle stages and was forced to race on the rail which in her opinion was inferior going. Ms Willick noted when able to shift out upon straightening the mare finished the race off well. Ms Willick stated that at its run prior to that, which was first up from a spell and up in class, the mare was not suited to the tempo of the race on that occasion and failed to sprint home with the leading division. On the basis of those two performances Ms Willick was confident of an improved showing today. Whilst noting the explanation Stewards ordered that the mare remain on course so that a further blood sample could be taken.

AGITATE - Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. A swab sample was taken. When questioned as to the disappointing performance Jockey G Colless stated that despite rearing at the start the horse gathered speed quickly and was able to obtain a handy position, however, upon straightening failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Jockey Colless stated that he was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance. Trainer K Schweida was also at a loss to explain the disappointing performance except to note that the horse may not have appreciated racing in ear muffs today which were an addition for the first time. Mr Schweida undertook to have further blood and veterinary tests conducted, the results of which he would report to Stewards.

Trainer B Lockwood will be interviewed as to the overall performance of the gelding at a later date.

EMERALD DUKE – App. B Appo reported that he dropped his whip shortly after the start.

PALMERA LAD – Jockey M Cahill dropped his whip near the 200m.

App. S Payne (FRIENDLY DRAGON) was fined the sum of $500 for excessive use of his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

Jockey Watkins was suspended from riding in races for a period of 5 meetings to commence midnight 06/01/2015 and to expire midnight 16/01/2015.
