GENERAL

App. A Hearn pleaded guilty to a charge under AR160B(3) for using his mobile phone whilst in the jockey’s room. App. Hearn was fined the sum of $500. In determining penalty, Stewards were able to confirm that the mobile phone was not used for the purposes of relaying any information regarding racing.

Race 1: Canadian Club Classic BenchMark 70 H’cap – 900m
1st – Time to Exceed 2nd – Speedy Sam 3rd – Nakanai 4th – The Right One

VIENNE was a late withdrawal at 7.54 am.

THE RIGHT ONE – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Stable representative was advised that a Barrier Certificate would be required before the mare’s next race start.

CONFIDENT STAR - Upon application by Trainer G Heinrich, Stewards allowed CONFIDENT STAR to race without a tongue tie. Nonetheless Trainer G Heinrich was fined the sum of $100. Hung in throughout the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. Ms Heinrich was of the opinion that the gelding failed to handle today’s track conditions.

Race 2: Zoo Business Media QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Starocity 2nd – Wulfies Lady 3rd – War Baby 4th – Fredriksen

TAILGATING – Shifted out abruptly at the start dislodging App. S Fawke and as a result the gelding took no competitive part in the event. Trainer G Heinrich was advised that an official trial would be required before the gelding races again.

WAR BABY – Slow to begin.

AMEX IMAGE – Raced wide throughout the event.

GUNDY MAGIC – Bumped near the 400m. Upon straightening bumped, steadied from heels.

TONNA POWER – Bumped near the 400m.

THESSALY – Jockey M Hellyer reported that the filly laid out for the majority of the race.

Race 3: Ambassador Travel QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Mischievous Devil 2nd – Triple Won 3rd – Wiggle Wiggle 4th – Superior Sun

AEROSTAR – Blundered on jumping away, shifted out abruptly and lost ground. Near the 1100m shifted in abruptly at which stage the blinkers became loose on the gelding hindering its performance and resulting in it trailing the field throughout.

RUMOUR HAZIT – Began awkwardly and shortly thereafter steadied from heels and lost ground.

HEARTOFTHEOUTBACK – Hung out rounding the first turn and raced wide for the majority of the event.

TRIPLE WON – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

EQUAL RULER – Jockey reported that the filly laid out rounding the home turn and failed to handle the prevailing track conditions. The trainer indicated that the filly would now be sent for a spell.

Race 4: Yellowglen Peacock Lane QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Vision of Hope 2nd – Holly Harry 3rd – Grandpie Dragon 4th – Witches Luck

The start was delayed when GRANDPIE DRAGON and SHOULDA TO SHOULDA proved difficult to load.

TEMUJIN DHAN – Fractious in the barriers, began awkwardly.

SERRATED – Slow to begin.

HOLY HARRY – Slow to begin.

AIRMASS – Began awkwardly. Bumped by SHOULDA TO SHOULDA near the 1100m and again near the 1000m resulting in the gelding becoming unbalanced. Near the 200m steadied from the heels of SHOULDA TO SHOULDA. It was reported that the gelding cast an off fore plate in running.

CHIEF’S FAV – Shortly after the start steadied when tightened for room.

ONSEID WITH ANGELS – Raced wide throughout.

GEORGETTE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Over the concluding stages the filly was unable to be tested when awkwardly placed at the heels of GRANDPIE DRAGON.

WITCHES LUCK – App. M McGillivray reported that the filly failed to muster speed in the early stages in the heavy going despite his efforts, however, once balanced upon straightening the filly commenced to respond to his riding and finished the race off well.

Race 5: Men of League Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Star Lady 2nd – Give ‘Em Curry 3rd – Abseil 4th – Qalateral

As Jockey K Wharton was to be overweight, he was replaced on QALATERAL by Jockey A Allen. Jockey K Wharton was subsequently fined the sum of $100.

ABSEIL – Slow to begin.

SON OF EDEN - Slow to begin. Bumped leaving the 300m.

THREE RONDAVELS - Slow to begin. Galloped on off fore leg.

ART OF PURFECTION – After being fractious in the barriers, began awkwardly.

STAR LADY – Approaching the 200m the mare resented being struck over the nostril by another rider’s whip.

RAISE YOUR SPIRITS – Jockey M Hellyer reported that the mare hung in for the majority of the race proving difficult to ride.

ELMOTINO – When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, Jockey B El-Issa stated that his intention today with the addition of blinkers was to be positioned more forward, however, the gelding failed to must speed in the early stages which resulted in it racing further back in the field than anticipated. Jockey El-Issa was of the view that the gelding failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.

Race 6: Ticketmates Class 1 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Lochlee 2nd – Ring King 3rd – Duilio 4th – Glacier Express

RING KING – Began awkwardly, shifted out. Shifted out under pressure over the final 200m.

GLACIER EXPRESS – At the start shifted in and away from BENTLES.

SOLE ILLUSION – Bumped at the start and became unbalanced. Lost near hind plate in running.

SEVVA NIGHTS – Checked and lost ground after being heavily bumped upon jumping away. App. K Stanley was reminded of her obligations when using her whip on a horse out of contention.

SPEED TO BERN - Checked and lost ground after being heavily bumped upon jumping away. Lost off hind plate in running.

WORLD SERIES - Checked and lost ground after being heavily bumped upon jumping away. App. S Fawke was reprimanded for using his whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

SURGE – Steadied when tightened for room at the start.

LOCHLEE – App. M McGillivray got his whip entangled in the reins over the final 200m.

Race 7: Eliza Park Class 5 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Stuboy 2nd – Noogoora Burr 3rd – Sovereign Spider 4th – Stay Schtum

Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Trainer S Lawlor’s stable representative for the late declaration of rider J Morris on NOOGOORA BURR.

SOVEREIGN SPIDER – App. B Appo dropped his whip near the 100m.

LITTLE LONG HORN – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance App. M McGillivray stated that the gelding travelled comfortably during the early and middle stages, however, when placed under pressure rounding the home turn it was reluctant to stretch out and weakened noticeably. Trainer K Doughty was at a loss to explain the performance and undertook to report to stewards anything that may become apparent which may have had an effect on the horse’s performance in the days subsequent to the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow recovery rate. App. McGillivray was reprimanded for using his whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

PURE REALITY – Jockey M Hellyer reported that the mare failed to handle the prevailing track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a slow recovery rate.

STUBOY - When questioned as to the improved performance, Trainer B Guy stated that he had instructed the rider to ride the gelding vigorously out of the barriers. Mr Guy added that as a result the gelding travelled well during the middle stages and in his opinion had previously performed well on rain-affected tracks. The explanation was noted.

Race 8: Outback Jacks Australia Day Cup Class 4 H’cap – 1800m
1st – Rock Musician 2nd – Ella Magic 3rd – Perplexity 4th – Miss Husson

MISS HUSSON – Slow to begin.

PERPLEXITY – Slow to begin.

FULL HAMMER – Steadied to avoid the heels of UNADULTERATED upon straightening. Jockey C Small was severely reprimanded for shifting out when insufficiently clear.

ATTITUDINAL MISS – Steadied near the 300m when tightened for room.

POPSTAR PETE – Inconvenienced near the 300m. App. A Hearn was reprimanded for not weighing in as the 5th placegetter.

ROCK MUSICIAN – When questioned as to the improved performance, stable representative G Smith stated that the horse had previously performed well on a rain-affected surface.

HI MACKAY – When questioned as to the performance, App. S Payne stated that he was instructed to lead on the mare today. He added that when HEART STEALER improved forward of him he was concerned with the pace being set so he elected to restrain and sit off that runner. App. Payne added that the mare was under pressure leaving the 600m and in his view was disappointing. App. Payne was of the view that the mare was not completely comfortable on today’s track conditions.

HEART STEALER – When questioned as to the tactics adopted, Jockey B El-Issa stated that he was instructed to be vigorous out of the barriers and take up a forward position. Leaving the 1400m the gelding commenced to over-race resulting in it leading by some distance, however, weakened noticeably leaving the 500m and was very disappointing. Trainer G D Bougoure will be interviewed at a later date.

Race 9: Ahrens Accounting RQ Girls on Track F&M Series Open H’cap – 1200m
1st – Bermuda Blu 2nd – Aimee 3rd – Royal Consort 4th – Nicky Nocky

NORTHERN ZOOM – Bumped on jumping away.

NICKY NOCKY – Bumped on jumping away.

ROYAL CONSORT – Slow to begin.

Race 10: First Up Racing Connections Ratings Band 0-65 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Umasaga 2nd – Felon 3rd – Golfing 4th – Evocative

Connections advised that UMASAGA which led last start will be ridden further back in the field today. Ridden accordingly.

ALL ASSURED – Began awkwardly.

BELLA GIRL – Slow to begin. Near the 700m steadied when placed in restricted room.

AQUATOR – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, App. M McGillivray stated that he was specifically instructed not to restrain the gelding in the early stages. App. McGillivray added that when placed outside the leader in the early stages, the gelding commenced to race strongly and as a result he allowed it to stride forward to the lead. App. McGillivray was of the view that the work the mare was required to do in the early stages together with the heavy track conditions resulted in it compounding over the final 400m. Trainer P Balzen was of the view that the gelding failed to handle the prevailing track conditions, however, undertook to advise stewards should any abnormalities come to light in the days subsequent that may explain the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow recovery rate.
