Race 1: Mermaid Beach Tavern BenchMark 85 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Platinum State 2nd – Grey Countess 3rd – Aldini 4th – Tertiary

PLATINUM STATE – The start was delayed when the gelding lunged forward opening the front of the barriers. After being immediately restrained the gelding was inspected by the veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and cleared to start.

ALDINI – Raced wide throughout.

GREY COUNTESS – Held up rounding home turn.

ENDLESS SHADOW - Trainer P Hulbert advised Stewards that after today’s performance the mare would be retired.

Race 2: Dracula’s Cabaret Restaurant Class 2 Plate – 900m
1st – Ice Bucket 2nd – Sassy Tycoon 3rd – Tressles 4th – Innocent

SASSY TYCOON – The start was delayed when the mare was fractious in the barriers. Began awkwardly, shifted in and made heavy contact with another runner. Raced ungenerously during the middle stages.

COUNT KAWANA – Began awkwardly and shortly thereafter had to be checked and lost ground when tightened for room between INNOCENT and SASSY TYCOON which had begun awkwardly. Steadied when forced to race in restricted room approaching the 500m.

INNOCENT – Shortly after the start checked and lost ground when tightened for room between TRESSLES which was taken out by BEAUFORT GYRE and SASSY TYCOON which continued to lay in despite the efforts of its rider after beginning awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn and approaching the 300m was disappointed for a run between COUNT KAWANA and BEAUFORT GYRE. Then held up until the 200m where the mare had to be steadied from the heels of BEAUFORT GYRE and shifted out to obtain clear running.

MADAME BOOKWORM – Raced wide throughout.

MIGGERU – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in both the near fore and near hind legs. Trainer P Youngberry was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required before the gelding’s next race start.

CHARLOTTE GRACE – Raced wide throughout. On return to scale the filly was found to have bled. As this is the second occasion on which the filly has bled it will now incur a lifetime ban from racing in Australia under the provisions of AR53A.

BEAUFORT GYRE – Had to be steadied when forced to race in restricted room approaching the 500m.

TRESSLES – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. Hung out under pressure over the final 100m.

ICE BUCKET – Laid out throughout the home straight.

Following the running of Race 2, Jockey A Spinks was examined by the club doctor and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.

Race 3: The Coolangatta Hotel Open H’cap – 1800m
1st – Noisy Ocean 2nd – Landlocked 3rd – Danagaze 4th – Borehole

Correct weight was delayed whilst Mr J Cleary, trainer of LANDLOCKED, viewed the patrol footage to ascertain whether there were grounds to lodge an objection against the winner. After viewing the patrol footage Mr Cleary decided not to proceed and correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored.

NOISY OCEAN – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Held up for a short distance rounding the home turn. Hung out under pressure over the final 100m.

DANAGAZE – Hampered shortly after the start.

BOREHOLE – Inconvenienced near the 100m.

Following the running of Race 3, Jockey N Day was examined by the club doctor and stood down for the remainder of his engagements. Stewards permitted rider replacements as per Stewards Race Day Summary.

Following the running of Race 3, Jockey A Spinks was again examined by the club doctor and stood down for the remainder of his engagements. Stewards permitted rider replacements as per Stewards Race Day Summary.

After the running of Race 3 the track was upgraded to a Good 3.

Race 4: Kurrawa Surf Club Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Raise Your Spirits 2nd – Hidden Love 3rd – the Dark Passenger 4th – Marlene Adele

JACKY LEGS – Connections advised the gelding would be ridden back today from a wide barrier. Raced wide throughout.

LORD CHAMBERLAIN - Slow to begin and despite the efforts of its rider trailed the field for the majority of the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. When questioned as to the disappointing performance, Trainer G Shaw noted that the gelding performs best when racing over further distances than that of today’s event. However, Mr Shaw expressed his disappointment in the gelding’s performance as it had impressed him in a 1000m trial leading into today’s race. Mr Shaw undertook to have blood tests taken following today’s performance, the results of which he would report back to Stewards. Notwithstanding, Mr Shaw was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding after its poor performance today.

COSMIC GIGGLE – Slow to begin. Hung out for the majority of the race. Trainer T Timbery was advised that a warning would be placed on the colt’s racing manners.

MARLENE ADELE – Near the 300m steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of MANTECADO. Laid out over the concluding stages. Jockey M Hellyer reported that his intention was to take up a position closer to the speed today, however, after being slow to begin he elected to obtain a position with cover towards the rear of the field so as not to be caught wide.

MISCRUZ – Over-raced during the early stages.

RED’S THE GO – Over-raced passing the 900m when being restrained.

MANTECADO – Raced wide throughout.

TRIPLE WON – Steadied from heels approaching the 700m.

Race 5: Tweed Heads & Coolangatta Surf Club QTIS 3YO Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Running Thunder 2nd – Road to the Bay 3rd – Audella 4th – Shoulda to Shoulda

Correct weight was delayed whilst Jockey K Wharton, the 4th placegetter (SHOULDA TO SHOULDA) viewed the patrol footage to ascertain whether there were grounds to lodge an objection against the 2nd placegetter (ROAD TO THE BAY). After viewing the patrol footage Jockey Wharton decided not to proceed and correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored.

RUNNING THUNDER – The start was delayed when the gelding proved difficult to load. Trainer J Murdoch was advised that a warning would be placed on its barrier manners. Began awkwardly. Raced greenly during the early stages.

BIANTIC – The start was further delayed when the gelding proved difficult to load. Trainer L Wheeler was advised that a warning would be placed on its barrier manners. Raced wide throughout.

IN BEIJING – Began awkwardly.

LARABEE – Slow to begin. Upon straightening, inclined to lay in behind RUNNING THUNDER and was held up for a short distance.

MALPARA – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Steadied from heels over concluding stages.

MANCE RAYDER – Shortly after the start steadied when tightened for room between runners.

SHOULDA TO SHOULDA – Near the 1000m buffeted between runners and then raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

DRAGON TOWN – Laid in throughout the home straight.

CIDARIS – Held up over the concluding stages.

Jockey J Morris (SLIPPERY SAGA) was reprimanded for failing to ride his mount right out to the end of the race. Stewards were not satisfied that his actions affected the placings.

ROAD TO THE BAY – When questioned as to the tactics adopted, Jockey N Masuda stated he was instructed to position the gelding where it was comfortable. He noted that the gelding was having its first start for the stable and in a trial leading into today’s race he had travelled in a forward position. Jockey Masuda added that after beginning fairly today he rode the gelding forward so as not to be caught wide which resulted in him settling outside the leader.

Race 6: Tugun Surf Club Class 1 H’cap – 1300m
1st – Top Royal 2nd – Court Adition 3rd – Carton 4th – Ritzy Belle

TOP ROYAL – Connections advised that the gelding would be ridden forward today. Ridden accordingly.

CHIRICAHUA – Blundered on jumping away.

RITZY BELLE – Fractious in barriers. Slow to begin.

COURT ADITION - Bumped running rail near 1000m.

IF EVER - Over-raced during the early stages.

CARTON - Raced wide during the early stages.

DIVERSIFIER - Over-raced during the early and middle stages when leading.

Race 7: Kirra Surf Club Ratings Band 0-65 H’cap – 1800m
1st –Grappa Brandy 2nd – Lady Belladonna 3rd – Stuboy 4th – Maughan

Trainer B Guy was fined the sum of $100 for late rider notification of Jockey L Rolls on LUCKY DAY KID.

GRAPPA BRANDY - Slow to begin.

EXCELLENT AL- Shortly after the start steadied and lost ground when tightened for room.

CREDIT ONLY - Shortly after the start steadied and lost ground when tightened for room. Over-raced during the early stages.

KAZAN - Raced wide during the early stages before being ridden forward to the lead near the 1200m.

ENCHANTEE - Began awkwardly.

VINE - Jockey B Wallace reported that the gelding got its tongue over the bit which resulted in it weakening over the final 400m.

LADY BELLADONNA - Laid in throughout the home straight.

Race 8: Amos Nay Memorial Class 4 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Headwater Country 2nd – Pandora Charm 3rd – Military Manor 4th – Game Thief

As A Allen was unable to fulfil his riding engagement due to previous engagements at Doomben today he was replaced by Jockey C Whiteley. However, as C Whiteley had already accepted the ride on GAME THIEF, he was then replaced by Jockey B Pengelly on HEADWATER COUNTRY.

Trainer R Lipp was fined the sum of $100 for late rider notification of Jockey S Galloway on FINE DROP OF RED.

GAME THIEF - Initially slow to begin and then bumped.

PANDORA CHARM - Shifted out and bumped another runner upon jumping away. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.


MILITARY MANOR – Near the 1100m steadied when tightened for room between PURE WHISPER and ALL MY ANGELS which was inclined to lay in and away from APPLE THIEF.

APPLE THIEF - Began awkwardly. Leaving the 1000m improved into restricted room to the inside of PANDORA CHARM and as a result clipped the heels of PANDORA CHARM and blundered.

VALENTINE GIRL - Bumped approaching the 1000m.

RIGHTEOUS MISS - Steadied when tightened for room near the 1000m and lost ground.

ALL MY ANGELS - Inclined to lay in during the early stages. Raced wide throughout.
