Race 2 - Jockey C Whiteley (REVELIO) was fined the sum of $100 for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.
Race 1: Shine Lawyers Class 2 H’cap – 900m
1st – Casinomac 2nd – Life’s Like That 3rd – Otoshi 4th – Cheering
SANSHO DAYU – Fractious in the barriers. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.
COLEY – Raced 3 wide throughout. App. S Eilbeck reported that the gelding was inclined to lay out for the majority of the race.
LADY SCHILLER – Raced 4 wide throughout.
OTOSHI – Steadied from the heels of CHEERING near the 700m.
WILLOW MIST – Disappointed for a run to the inside of CASINOMAC in the early stages of the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare which returned to the enclosure with blood in the offside nostril revealed the source of the blood to be from a laceration inside the nostril. As such no further action was taken.
CASINOMAC – Raced greenly in the home straight.
MR GOOD LOOKING – Held up for clear running for a short distance passing the 200m.
Race 2: Sheetmetal Improvements Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Audree 2nd – Grey Not Black 3rd – News Editor 4th – Lord Chamberlain
LORD CHAMBERLAIN - Bumped on jumping away and a short distance later had to be steadied when tightened for room. Connections advised that the gelding would take up a mid-field position if circumstances permit. After suffering interference at the start the gelding settled at the rear of the field.
ZARIA’S FIRE - Fractious in the barriers. Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped LORD CHAMBERLAIN. Leaving the 1200m bumped heavily on a number of occasions and as a result had to be checked and lost ground.
NEWS EDITOR - Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide for majority of event. Near the 500m had to be steadied from heels. Jockey J Taylor reported that it was his intention to take up a position closer to the speed, however, after being slow to begin he was then forced to race further back than anticipated. Jockey Taylor added that near the 1200m and again near the 500m he was hampered as a result of interference forward of him and that when afforded clear running in the home straight, the gelding finished the race off well.
YANKEE FLYER - Slow to begin. Raced wide for majority of event. Near the 500m steadied from the heels of BARNWELL which was weakening.
BARNWELL - Shifted out abruptly at the start and made heavy contact with AUDREE and then became unbalanced. Bumped near the 1300m. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which commenced to weaken leaving the 500m and tailed off revealed a laceration to its near fore hoof. Trainer P Facoory will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness and trial will be required before the gelding’s next start.
AUDREE – Bumped at the start.
SEPTIMUS PRIME - Near the 1300m shifted in and bumped BARNWELL. Raced wide for majority of event. Near the 500m improved on to the heels of YANKEE FLYER and shifted out abruptly.
MY SHANIA – Bumped on a number of occasions leaving the 1200m.
SILENCE IS AVIRTUE – Bumped on a number of occasions leaving the 1200m.
PLATINUM GRAY – Bumped on a number of occasions leaving the 1200m and as a result had to be steadied and became unbalanced. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
GREY NOT BLACK – Shifted out under pressure over the final 200m.
AMY LYNN – Held up leaving the 100m.
Jockey T Treichel (YANKEE FLYER) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in near the 1200m when insufficiently clear of SILENCE IS AVIRTUE which was taken in on to ZARIA’S FIRE resulting in ZARIA’S FIRE being buffeted, having to be checked and lost ground. PLATINUM GRAY was also bumped by ZARIA’S FIRE as a consequence. Jockey Treichel was suspended from riding in races for a period of 6 meetings to commence midnight 12/07/15 and to expire midnight 24/07/15.
Race 3: Burleigh Bears Leagues Club QTIS 2yo Maiden H’cap – 1400m
1st – Old Tex 2nd – Fiery Heights 3rd – Xylophone 4th – Fogoso
OLD TEX – The start was delayed when the gelding dislodged Jockey J Taylor on the way to the barriers. After undergoing a veterinary examination the gelding was passed to start. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, Jockey J Taylor stated that he was instructed to ride the gelding positively out of the barriers to take up a forward position, however, it was not his intention to lead but when positioned outside of PELLONIA in the early stages he elected to push forward to lead. When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance, Trainer H Page stated that the gelding had performed well when ridden in a similar manner 3 starts ago and had appreciated the step-up in distance from its last start.
COSMIC GIGGLE - Slow to begin.
WICKED INVESTMENT - Slow to muster speed in the early stages despite the efforts of its rider and as a result was forced to settle further back than anticipated and then had to race extremely wide rounding the home turn. Trainer P Butterworth was advised that a warning will be placed on the colt’s racing manners. Mr Butterworth indicated that the horse would be gelded and sent for a spell.
XYLOPHONE - Shortly after the start steadied when tightened for room. Over-raced during the early stages.
CAPTAIN ADRIATIC - Shortly after the start steadied when tightened for room.
MYSTICISM - Shortly after the start steadied when tightened for room.
FIERY HEIGHTS - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
LEGAL LOOPHOLE - Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.
BIRTHDAY WISHES - Raced wide throughout.
FOGOSO – Near the 1000m buffeted between runners.
WORLD CLASS - Near the 300m steadied from the heels of SOVEREIGN STAR and shifted in where it again had to be steadied near the 250m when disappointed for that run between PRETTY LUCKY and SOVEREIGN STAR (Jockey A Spinks) which shifted in. Jockey A Spinks was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.

FELL FROM HEAVEN - Lunged forward as the start was effected making contact with the barrier gates and as a result was slow to begin. Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages.

Race 5: Dial Before You Dig Benchmark 75 H’cap – 1300m
1st – Lucky News 2nd – Doughty 3rd – Rainbow Magic 4th – More Than Money
RAINBOW MAGIC - Steadied when tightened for room shortly after the start.
MOONLIGHT NOVA - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
HYDRAZINE - Near the 1000m steadied when tightened for room by DOUGHTY (L Rolls). Jockey Rolls was reprimanded for shifting in when insufficiently clear. Over-raced for majority of event.
MORE THAN MONEY – When questioned regarding the riding of the horse in the early stages, App. K Stanley stated that she was instructed to position the horse at the rear of the field and added that due to the fast tempo in the early stages she settled 2 lengths off the second last horse, IT’S ON THE POCKET. App. Stanley further added that when asked to improve passing the 600m the horse travelled strongly and finished the race off well. Stewards advised App. Stanley that she should have made greater use of the horse in the early stages to attempt to maintain a position to the inside of IT’S ON THE POCKET.
Race 6: Powrgard Class 3 H’cap – 1100m
1st – American Spirit 2nd – Saint Hugo 3rd – Regal Trader 4th – Sagacious Flame
The start was delayed when CANNY AND THE JET was fractious in the barriers requiring the near side stirrup leather to be adjusted.
CANNY AND THE JET – Slow to begin. Failed to muster speed despite the efforts of its rider and as a result did not take any competitive part in the race. Trainer S Kendrick advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell. Notwithstanding, Mr Kendrick was advised that the gelding must trial on 2 occasions prior to starting again. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.
TWISTED MOUNTAIN – When questioned as to the tactics adopted in the early stages when endeavouring to obtain the lead resulting in a fast tempo being set, Jockey C Whiteley stated that his instructions were to lead and that the gelding had performed best when able to lead. Jockey Whiteley added that in the early stages AMERICAN SPIRIT persisted in maintaining a position to his inside requiring him to make more use of the gelding than he would have liked before obtaining the lead passing the 800m. Whilst noting the fast tempo that was set Jockey Whiteley was of the opinion that the gelding is better suited over 1000m.
Race 7: Coast 2 Coast Earthmoving Class 1 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Whatawaltz 2nd – Betterthanyouthink 3rd – Tribal Art 4th – Slippery Saga
Trainer T Edmonds was fined the sum of $100 for the late declaration of rider J Matthews on OUR SONGBIRD.
VARAKEL - Over-raced in the early stages and then raced 3 wide throughout. Near the 300m steadied when tightened for room between JALAURABEL and WATCHANDWAIT.
WATCHANDWAIT - Raced wide throughout.
JALAURABEL - Near the 300m steadied when tightened for room between VARAKEL and TRIBAL ART (C Whiteley) which shifted out. Jockey C Whiteley was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
WHATAWALTZ - When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance, stable representative B Rogers stated that at its last start when first up from a spell, the gelding had to be restrained from a wide barrier to take up a position closer to the fence. Mr Rogers added that the gelding appreciated the step-up in distance today and from the inside barrier was able to settle closer to the speed.
TRIBAL ART – The gelding bled during the event. As this was the second occasion on which TRIBAL ART had bled, it will incur a lifetime ban from racing under the provisions of AR53A.
Race 8: SEQ Division Class 1 H’cap – 1800m
1st – Point 2nd – Godzone Girl 3rd – Real Sting 4th – Murta Cape
Stewards noted the explanation tendered by Trainer M Renehan for the late declaration of Jockey M Paget as the rider on CHANGE OF LUCK.
As Jockey J Morris was to be overweight, he was replaced on CUBAN GAL by Jockey J Taylor. Jockey Morris was fined the sum of $100.
REAL STING - Began awkwardly and lost ground.
