Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today's meeting:
Race 6 – PAPAL MISS – D. McGillivray +1kg (56kg)
As apprentice R. Thorburn was unavailable due to transportation issues, he was replaced as per the Stewards summary.
Race 1: RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND Maiden Plate 1800M
CIRCUS MAXIMUS – Approaching the 600m, put in an awkward stride and became unbalanced.
GREEN CHAI – Co-Trainer Chris Munce was reprimanded pursuant to AR102(a) for failing to notify that GREEN CHAI had been gelded.
PEAR BELLINI – Raced in restricted room between BETTER DRAW and O’CALDINO over the final 50m.
PROVEN RECORD (NZ) – Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn.
SCUTI – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
Race 2: CORNETTS SUPERMARKET QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1400M
PROVOKER – Bumped on jumping. Near the 1000m, laid in and away from NELSONS BAY. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice C. Vitler advised it was his intention to be further forward, however; after the colt didn’t begin as expected, he was obliged to settle further back.
GO MARO – Bumped on jumping.
STAR OF ASCOT – Rider J. Huxtable advised the gelding travelled only fairly throughout and proved disappointing. He added he had recommended to connections the addition of some headgear at its next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
TRIPLE MALT – Bumped on jumping.
PRIX DE LA HEART – Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start became awkwardly placed on heels and steadied. Near the 1000m, tightened onto the rail by SHIP HAPPENS, which was tightened by PROVOKER, which got its head up and laid in and away from NELSONS BAY. Approaching the 600m, steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of GO MARO. Approaching the 100m, steadied and shifted to the outside of LADY WINDERMERE to obtain clear running. Apprentice J. Williams was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the finish line.
SHIP HAPPENS – Trainer J. Bayliss was reprimanded pursuant to AR102(a) for failing to notify that SHIP HAPPENS had been gelded. Bumped on jumping. Near the 1000m, tightened for room by PROVOKER.
TRULY TYCOON – Laid in during the early and middle stages. Commenced to give ground leaving the 600m and finished tailed out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to its right hind. Whilst Trainer D. Morgan advised the filly would now be retired, he was notified that if it was not, the filly would be required to Officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards.
LADY WINDERMERE – Raced wide throughout without cover. Laid out rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the home straight.
GAIRLOCH – Approaching the 600m, steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of the weakening TRULY TYCOON.
NELSONS BAY – Bumped on jumping. Raced four wide throughout without cover. Passing the 50m, momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of PROVOKER (C. Vitler), which shifted in under pressure. Apprentice C. Vitler was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Cast its off-hind plate in running.
Race 3: SCHRAMM GROUP Maiden Handicap 1000M
The start of this race was delayed approximately 2 minutes when YOUCOMPLETEME reared over behind the barriers. Subsequently the gelding was found to be lame in the near-hind leg and was declared a late withdrawal at 2:19pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on YOUCOMPLETEME be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st place PETITE PALACE – 6c the win, 5c the place
2nd place SIGNATURE TART – 5c the place
3rd place WILDSPITZE – 11c the place
Co-Trainer C. Munce was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance and to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.
RADIO WAVES – Co-Trainer Chris Munce was reprimanded pursuant to AR102(a) for failing to notify that RADIO WAVES had been gelded. Slow to begin.
KING COUNTRY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 800m, shifted in and bumped SOCIALLY RED.
PETITE PALACE – Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn.
SIGNATURE TART – Bumped on jumping.
SOCIALLY RED – Bumped near the 800m.
MOONSPELL – Trainer J. Smerdon was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time. Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SIGNATURE TART. Apprentice M. Philpot report that shortly after the start, she became concerned with the filly’s action and for this reason commenced to ease the filly out of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Smerdon was advised MOONSPELL would be required to Officially trial prior to next racing.
Following the running of this race, Rider S. Rutledge was examined and cleared by the QAS officials after YOUCOMPLETEME stood on her right foot behind the barriers.
Race 4: POWERED BY MI ELECTRIC Class 5 Handicap 1400M
AWAYGOESTHEBUNNY – Change of tactics; further forward with the blinkers on for the first time. Bumped on jumping and settle in a midfield position. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Apprentice J. Williams reported the gelding didn’t appreciate the firm track and may be better suited in races over a further distance. Apprentice J. Williams was fined $200 pursuant to AR211(1) for returning to scale in excess of 0.5kg overweight.
ROTHESAY'S RUBY – Raced wide throughout.
NIPPA'S NIGHTCAP – Bumped on jumping. Brushed the running rail near the 1000m. Near the 900m, improved onto heels and steadied.
Race 5: AUSTBROKERS COMSURE BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1000M
I AM VOODOO – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
MR ENCORE – Raced four wide without cover throughout.
LADY TULESSA – Tightened for room shortly after the start and steadied.
BULSARA – Raced wide throughout.
DECISIVE LASS – Held up from rounding the home turn until a point near the 200m.
MONTE CRUISE – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the earl and middle stages. Cast its near fore plate in running.
PORT ERIN – Raced wide throughout. Momentarily steadied rounding the home turn when MR ENCORE (R. Wiggins) shifted in when not quite clear. Rider R. Wiggins was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
UNO MOON – Began awkwardly.
Race 6: STO GROUP WINTER PROVINCIAL STAYERS - HEAT - BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 2400M
THEBARBEROFSEVILLE – Slow to begin.
FARWEST – Began awkwardly.
GIFTED GAMER – Passing the 600m, steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of THE KAHN, which was losing ground.
SACRED BULL (NZ) – Change of tactics; to be further forward. Slow to begin and settled in a midfield position.
THE KHAN (NZ) – Blundered on jumping. Raced wide until the 1600m. Commenced to weaken from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a laceration to its near hind leg, consistent with being galloped on. Trainer M. Wilson was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
SMELTER (IRE) – As apprentice J. Williams was overweight, he was replaced as the rider of the gelding by apprentice E. Lang. Subsequently, apprentice J. Williams was fined $200 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride and found to be overweight.
GIDDY GAN'S JOY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 500m, checked from the heels of the weakening THE KAHN.
GOT YOURSELF A GUN – Slow to begin.
CHAMPAGNE ROUGE – Raced three-wide without cover throughout.
PAPAL MISS – Raced wide with cover from the 1300m. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, trainer V. Venkaya explained at its most recent start on 8th June, the mare raced wide and was up in class. He added that being back in a more suitable class race and able to settle towards the rear with cover, he was confident of a more forward showing.
Race 7: RMHC - GOLD COAST FAMILY ROOMS QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200M
VIERVILLE – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice J. Williams momentarily loss the use of his nearside rein near the 150m. Apprentice J. Williams reported he was concerned with the gelding’s action and for this reason didn’t pressure his mount out over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
JOPPA LANE – Slow into stride.
BACKSTAGE – Began awkwardly.
BOOMING BIANCA – Near the 900m, raced tight to the inside of ALLY, which was tight to the inside of OH NOT REALLY, which was momentarily awkward close to the heels of VIERVILLE (J. Williams), which was shifting in. Apprentice J. Williams was advised to exercise greater care. Rider A. Allen reported his mount never travelled with the fast tempo of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
OH NOT REALLY – Near the 900m, momentarily awkward at the heels of VIERVILLE.
ALLY – Raced tight near the 900m. Rider J. Huxtable reported he was concerned with the filly’s action over the concluding stages. Lost its off-hind plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
MELO MELO KAVA – Began awkwardly.
Race 8: RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200M
BALTRAY – Raced wide throughout.
TARPS – Began awkwardly. Apprentice C. Sutherland reported the gelding travelled well in the early and middles stages, however; when placed under pressure, lay out and was disappointing in its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
WAR DRAMA (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
CABSAV – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
LION CLASS – Held up from rounding the home turn until a point near the 250m.
WATER LAD – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
ZOUTHUR (NZ) – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
NAGAMIE – Began awkwardly. Raced three-wide without cover throughout.
