Race 8 – GRAFTERBURNERS – Trainer K. Schweida advised he was pleased with how GRAFTERBURNERS pulled up and is continuing with its preparation.
GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at tonight’s meeting:
Race 4 – IMMEDIATE – T. Berry +0.5kg (55.5kg)
Race 5 – MONTEVECCHIO – J. Lloyd +1kg (55kg)
Trainer D. Maher was fined $200 pursuant to LR68(1) for failing to scratch CHEVAL CHIC by the prescribed time.
Trainer P. Shailer was fined $200 pursuant to LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch dual acceptor ISTI STAR by the prescribed time.
RACE 1: IGA LIQUOR MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100M
LA PROFECIA – Held up from the 600m until leaving the 400m. Jockey R. Maloney advised the gelding would take benefit from today’s run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
PARADING GUS – Held up from the 600m until leaving the 400m.
DISPARATE – Slow into stride. Raced wide throughout.
HELL OF A HIGH – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Near the 50m, obliged to steady to avoid the heels of PARADING GUS (B. Osmond) which shifted out under riding. Apprentice B. Osmond was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) and advised to stop riding and straighten his mounts when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
LOVE REBEL – Began awkwardly and bumped HELL OF A HIGH. Held up from the 600m until leaving the 400m. Approaching the 400m, momentarily inconvenienced when placed in restricted room to the inside of PARADING GUS which shifted in after becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of LA PROFECIA.
FORTYSECONDSTREET – Held up from the 600m until leaving the 400m. Obliged to alter course passing the 200m and shift in.
SHAQUE D'AMOUR – Raced wide until the 600m. Laid out rounding the home turn.
EGYPTIAN GODDESS – When questioned regarding leading todays event, Jockey R. Dolan advised the filly began very well and he elected to allow his mount to stride forward rather than restrain.
RACE 2: CLUB PARTNERS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200M
LISTING CAPITAL – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Passing the 900m, commenced to race fiercely and had to be restrained off heels on a number of occasions. Leaving the 800m, steadied after improving onto heels and shifted out. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester reported that after not being able to obtain the leading position, the colt was inclined to over race.
MILDURA LAD – Began awkwardly. Raced wide until the 700m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
YOUMEANDDUPRE – Leaving the 1100m, became awkwardly placed at the heels of DEVINE SQUIRE. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
BESTOV – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages and leaving the 1100m had to be steadied after improving onto heels. Jockey B. Thompson reported the filly would take benefit from todays run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
CRASH THE PARTY – Slow to begin and then inconvenienced by LISTING CAPITAL shortly thereafter. Held up from the 500m until shifting out leaving the 400m.
MONTE CARLO MISS – Began awkwardly.
RED MOON RISING – Began awkwardly.
RACE 3: THE BEECHMONT HOTEL CLASS 4 PLATE 1000M
CINDERSEA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Passing the 100m, shifted out abruptly, resulting in Jockey R. King having to stop and straighten her mount over the concluding stages preventing her from riding out fully to the finish line. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainers’ representative was advised a warning would be placed on the mare for its racing manners.
MOULIN MISS – Began awkwardly.
SUNRISE (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages and near the 800m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of MOULIN MISS.
TORNADO EXPRESS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having not raced for an extended period and was cleared to start. Raced keenly in the early stages.
BRAVEHEART – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
OVERFULL – Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post between MOULIN MISS and BRAVEHEART which laid in under pressure.
RACE 4: THIRSTY CAMEL CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1300M
REWRITE – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Melham advised she was obliged to travel wide and forced wider on the track rounding the home turn, and was unable to make ground on the winner.
NINJASK – Raced wide throughout.
SEA WARNING – Raced wide throughout.
CYBER CITY – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
SOME STYLE – Bumped on jumping.
CHAYSE 'N' BODHI – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped REWRITE. Obliged to alter course and shift in passing the 200m.
IMMEDIATE – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages.
FLAXLANDS – Raced keenly in the early stages whilst racing in restricted room. Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Lloyd advised he was obliged to travel wide and forced wider on the track rounding the home turn, and was unable to make ground on the winner.
JUPITER HILLS – Raced in restricted room approaching the 900m for a short distance to the inside of SOME STYLE resulting in the mare having to be steadied from heels. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced in restricted room leaving the 800m.
PORT RIVER BILLIE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 500m. Laid out rounding the home turn.
WHAT DID YOU SAY – Bumped on jumping. Eased down from the 200m. Jockey R. King reported the gelding was making an abnormal breathing noise and for this reason she eased her mount out of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an abnormal respiratory noise and a slow recovery. Trainer J. Moore was advised the gelding will require a veterinary clearance, inclusive with the results of an endoscopic examination and would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
ZOUSLAYER – Slow to begin. Leaving the 1000m had to be steadied after improving onto heels, resulting in the gelding racing fierce for a considerable distance. Continued to over race in the middle stages. Near the 500m, obliged to steady after improving onto heels.
BRITANNIA ROSE – Raced wide throughout.
Following this race, Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester was examined by the club doctor and stood down from his remaining engagement due to dehydration. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester was advised that he would require a medical clearance prior to next riding.
RACE 5: THE DONOVAN & CO PROPERTY SPECIALISTS QTIS 3-Y-O & 4-Y-O BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1800M
PISTON REBEL – Began awkwardly. Obliged to shift out passing the 200m when carried wider by PINK VIXEN which shifted out to improve.
HE'SGOTTHESAY – Crowded for room on jumping.
SAN JOSE BOY – Held up from the 600m until leaving the 500m.
CANARA – When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported when leaving the 1600m, his mount was pressured by DIVERSITY which improved to his outside, resulting in CANARA commencing to over race. He added that his mount was reluctant to settle in the middle stages, which resulted in CANARA failing to finish the event off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
DIVERSITY – Began awkwardly. Jockey T. Berry reported in the early stages he was obliged to ride forward in an attempt to cross CANARA, but when that mare commenced to over race, DIVERSITY was forced to continue to ride forward to obtain the leading position. He added that after obtaining the lead, his mount was reluctant to settle until passing the 1100m, where he was able to settle the filly into a comfortably rhythm. He further added that when placed under pressure from the 500m, his mount commenced to weaken and failed to finish off the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Freedman was advised to report back on the condition of the filly in the days subsequent.
PINK VIXEN – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Held up from the 400m until leaving the 300m and was obliged to shift out to obtain clear running.
MOSAMOUR (NZ) – Held up from the 600m until leaving the 400m.
ELEANOR NANCY – Jockey M. Du Plessis reported his mount weakened over the concluding stages. Trainer K. Taplin advised she will report back to Stewards in the subsequent days on how the mare pulls up.
GYPSY WISH – Slow to begin.
MONTEVECCHIO – Slow to begin.
RACE 6: MAGIC MILLIONS NATIONAL 2YO CLASSIC 1000M
The start of this race was delayed when THE NEXT EPISODE lunged forward after being loaded into the barriers, was removed and underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
ITCHINTOGO – Began awkwardly.
THE NEXT EPISODE – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
MARFFIANO – Began awkwardly.
LUCKY PAT – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
RAROTONGA – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SCARTOON.
WRITTEN ACLAIM – Raced wide throughout.
AREPRICE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 700m between ITCHINTOGO and SCARTOON which laid out.
FEARLESS WIN – Laid out from the 600m until the entrance to the home straight.
SCARTOON – Taken in at the start and was bumped. Laid out in the early stages. Jockey M. Rodd reported his mount raced greenly throughout.
SAY YOU WILL – Slow to begin.
FINAL CRUSADE – Taken in at the start and was bumped.
RACE 7: CELLARBRATIONS BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1400M
HIDDEN MELODY – Bumped on jumping. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Near the 250m, hampered when racing in restricted room between YOSHINO which laid out before being corrected and MORE LOVE which shifted in marginally.
GRAMMAR LAD – Jockey M. Rodd reported his mount didn’t let down in the home straight as expected and was disappointing.
OCTOBER (NZ) – Over raced in the middle stages and near the 900m had to be steadied after improving onto heels. Apprentice J. McMurray reported his mount wasn’t suited to tonight’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor abrasion to the near fore cannon. Trainer T. Sears advised the gelding isn’t suited to racing on rain effected tracks and in future will look to not race on soft tracks or worse. Co-Trainer T. Sears advised he will report back to Stewards in the subsequent days on how the gelding pulls up.
BELTHIL – Began awkwardly. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
I'M HEROIC – Began awkwardly.
HEAVENLY IMPACT – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Momentarily inconvenienced on entering the home straight and became awkwardly placed on the heels of OCEAN ALPS which shifted out to improve. Jockey M. Zahra reported his mount didn’t stretch out in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Wilson reported the gelding may have been exposed too early in the race, but was disappointing in its finishing efforts. He further added that he intends to have the gelding examined by his stable veterinarian in the subsequent days and will report back to Stewards with any findings.
MIDNIGHT DRIFTER – Reared at the start and lost ground. Over raced in the middle stages and near the 900m had to be steadied after improving onto heels.
OCEAN ALPS – As jockey J. Guthmann-Chester was indisposed, he was replaced by jockey B. Thompson.
MORE LOVE – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages. Momentarily inconvenienced leaving the 250m.
RACE 8: THE BOTTLEO BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1200M
WINSOME STAR – Held up from the 600m until leaving the 400m.
BLUEPINOT – Change of tactics; to settle further forward if circumstances permit. Began awkwardly. Settled behind the pace.
ISTI STAR – Began awkwardly. Eased down over the concluding stages. Jockey R. Maloney reported his mount failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure and weakened noticeably over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer P. Shailer advised he will report back to Stewards in the subsequent days on how the filly pulls up.
AMENOPHIS – Raced wide throughout. Jockey B. Lerena reported his mount laid out rounding the home turn.
ZOUFANI – Bumped on jumping.
KINROSS LANE – Eased down from the 250m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have cardiac arrythmia. Trainer B. Healey was advised the mare will require a veterinary clearance, inclusive with the results of an ECG prior to galloping 1000m to the satisfaction of Stewards, and having a post-gallop cardiac auscultation performed prior to resuming.
REGAL STATUE – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages.
DAMEHOOD (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
CAPITAL HEART – Raced keenly in the early stages.
ELECTRIC ARROW – Cast its off hind plate.
