SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Barcaldine 7/07/2025.
Trainer B Cavanough reported to Stewards that when BOP “N” DAN was returned to the stables after competing in Race 5 at Barcaldine Race meeting, the Stable Foreperson noticed that the gelding had blood in one nostril which was attributed to have occurred as a result of a first-time bleeding episode. Trainer Cavanough was advised that pursuant to AR79(8), BOP “N” DAN would be required to complete a 1000m gallop to the satisfactory of Stewards before racing again.
GENERAL
All horses that competed at the Barcaldine race meeting 7/07/2025 underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination prior to starting today.
Race 1: LONGREACH TOYOTA QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 2-Y-O & Up 1000 Metres
ANACARDIUM – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start. Raced wide throughout.
FULL OF EURO – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start. Jockey J Rudd reported that FULL OF EURO failed to respond to his riding throughout the event. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an elevated heartbeat and to be showing signs of a poor recovery.
SOME CAT – Fractious in the barriers and as a result was slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
TWO STROKES – Began awkwardly.
BLOOMIN' GOLD – Began awkwardly. Shifted wider passing the 500m to improve. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
BRISKET – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 2: SCOTT BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1000 Metres
DAICOS – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start. Slow to begin.
DIRTY MERCHANT – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure when weakening down the home straight.
HURACANEVO – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. Jockey H Phillips reported that in her opinion the gelding will be better suited by races over a further distance.
MUSIC AWARD – Raced wide throughout the event.
VICI – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
FELONIOUS – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start.
OLIGARCHY – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start.
Race 3: RAY WHITE LONGREACH & BARCALDINE CLASS B HANDICAP 1200 Metres
TRAPEZE FLYER – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination at the barriers after being fractious and kicking out in the tie up stalls and was passed suitable to race.
FERGHANA – Began awkwardly.
WAYFARER'S WAY – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start.
CHERRY POP – Slow into stride after jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
MINT STREET – Began awkwardly and blundered shortly after jumping. Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
SWEET MOLLY – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start. Fractious in the barriers and as a result began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped NEVER REFUSE. Trainer D Rewald was advised a warning would be placed on the filly’s barrier manners.
NEVER REFUSE – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start. Bumped on jumping. Tailed the field from the 800m. Jockey John Rudd reported that NEVER REFUSE failed to respond to his riding throughout the event. A post-race Veterinary examination of the filly revealed no significant findings. Trainer H Forster advised Stewards that it was his intension to retire NEVER REFUSE from racing.
Following the running of this race Apprentice Jockey M Mankelow was examined by the oncourse QAS Officers after feeling unwell and as a result was unable to fulfill her remaining rides due to illness. Apprentice Mankelow was advised that she would require a medical certificate before riding again.
Race 4: HALL CHADWICK QUEENSLAND BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1400 Metres
OAKFIELD TARGET – Jockey S Galvin report that in his opinion the gelding struggled to carry the allocated weight on todays racing surface.
BEST SIDE – Jockey H Phillips reported that BEST SIDE over-raced in the middle stages of the event.
HARLEQUIN FIELD – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
SUMMER SIZZLING – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event.
BOSTON OF TUFFY – Slow to begin. Shifted out across the heels of BIJARA passing the 80m to obtain clear running.
CROWN REACH – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start.
BITTERSWEET PLUCK – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start. Raced wide throughout the event.
BIJARA – As Apprentice Jockey M Mankelow was ill and unable to ride the mare, she was replaced by Apprentice Jockey N Palmer. Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 5: COUNSELL FAMILY WILLOWIE CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1400 Metres
HEYINGTON STATION – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
KORDIA – Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
BURDEKIN - Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
I AM GOOD AT THIS – Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ENABLER – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at Barcaldine, Monday 7th July 2025 and was cleared to start. As Apprentice Jockey M Mankelow was ill and unable to ride the gelding, she was replaced by Jockey J Rudd. Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early and middle stages before tailing off. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled one nostril. Trainer T Schofield was advised that pursuant to AR79(8), ENABLER would be required to complete a 1000m gallop to the satisfactory of Stewards before racing again.
