SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Ipswich 17.12.14 –
Race 2: Trainer R. Heathcote advised stewards that BEKANNTES failed to stretch out satisfactorily when worked this morning, however a veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Mr Heathcote advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
Race 8: Trainer B. Guy reported that an endoscopic examination of REGULAR revealed the gelding to be suffering from a breathing abnormality and as such would undergo corrective surgery before racing again.
Race 1: IPSWICH CITY COUNCIL MAIDEN PLATE – 2200M
No racing incidents.
Race 2: JON KENT LAWYERS F&M MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M
BLESSINGS – Bumped another runner on jumping away.
LAURA'S REIGN – Had to be steadied from heels shortly after the start. Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to assume the position outside the leader near the 800m.
EUGENIE – Bumped another runner on jumping away. Steadied from heels near the 1200m and then overraced for a considerable distance.
SHADOW BOSS – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden back in the field if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
Race 3: SAMMUT BULOW C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M
Trainer D. Newham was fined $100 for failing to declare T. Chambers as the rider of TOUGH by the prescribed time.
The start of this race was delayed while AMAZING MR HUGHES had to be resaddled behind the barriers.
BLAKE'S LAD – The nearside bubble cheeker was dislodged during the preliminary and the horse subsequently raced without that piece of gear. Laid out during the middle stages.
BUSY – Steadied from heels approaching the 1200m. Raced wide throughout.
PLAY QUEST – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up rounding the home turn.
ROCKIANA – Had to be steadied when placed in restricted room between runners approaching the 400m. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Bumped another runner on a number of occasions over the concluding stages.
PURE GREED – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels near the 400m when attempting to improve.
SHADY EX – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings other than a superficial laceration to the off hind fetlock.
REAL TRICKY – Bumped by another runner on a number of occasions over the concluding stages.
Race 4: J BALE CONSTRUCTIONS QTIS 3YO BM65 H’CAP – 1350M
FIRE WITHIN – Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to the lead near the 800m.
MAGIC SAM – Steadied when placed in restricted room on straightening. When questioned as to the overall performance, jockey J. Byrne stated that despite travelling comfortably during the early and middle stages the gelding failed to respond when it was placed under pressure upon straightening and proved disappointing. Jockey Byrne added that he was of the view that the gelding may have come to the end of its current preparation.
SPANISH SAGA – Shifted out to improve passing the 600m, taking another runner wider. Laid out rounding the home turn.
SHUKRIYA – Inclined to lay out when taken wider by SPANISH SAGA, which shifted out to improve passing the 600m.
LOCHLEE – Raced wide throughout.
Race 5: NUGROW CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
Trainer G. Heinrich was fined $100 for failing to declare R. McMahon as the rider of SET AFIRE by the prescribed time.
The start of this race was delayed when LEAD THE WAY dislodged its rider during the preliminary. LEAD THE WAY underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
ANYMORE – Bumped shortly after the start. Bumped near the 1100m and became momentarily unbalanced.
ROYAL OCCASION – Inconvenienced shortly after the start.
BORN TO RUN EASY – Had to be steadied when tightened for room shortly after the start.
LEROY'S LUCK – Tightened for room near the 1100m and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.
STAR DROP – Bumped near the 1100m and became momentarily unbalanced. Near the 900m had to be steadied from the heels of ANYMORE, which was inclined to lay out at that point, and as a result STAR DROP lost ground.
SET AFIRE – Raced wide in the early stages.
TRUE PRINCE – Rider dropped his whip near the 300m. Inconvenienced near the 50m.
D'ARCY ARMS – Bumped shortly after the start.
BEYOND THE STORM – Shifted out abruptly near the 900m when being restrained. Raced wide throughout.
PARAFIRE – Steadied near the 50m when tightened for room between ANYMORE and TRUE PRINCE, which was taken in by STAR DROP.
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 4.
C. Munce was stood down by ambulance officers due to injury following this event and riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 6: IPSWICH'S FAVOURITE CLUB THE JETS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
SCREAMING JET – Commenced to hang out leaving the 800m and continued do during the middle stages of the event.
HURRICANE CASSIE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
DANORO LAD – Inclined to lay in over the final 200m and proved difficult to ride.
SUM IT UP – Stewards permitted apprentice R. Jamieson to replace C. Munce when no senior rider was available at the weight. Slow to begin after being fractious in the barriers.
Race 7: XXXX GOLD RATINGS BAND 0-62 H’CAP – 1700M
UNSPOKEN – When questioned as to the poor performance of the gelding, apprentice J. Hull stated that from the wide alley his intention was to take up a handy position today. Apprentice Hull added that despite racing wide in the early stages, he was able to obtain a handy position and the horse travelled comfortably during the middle stages, but once placed under pressure leaving the 600m commenced to weaken. Apprentice Hull was of the view that the gelding may be better suited when ridden further back in the field and over further ground. Trainer B. Currie will be interviewed at a later date. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have a slow recovery rate.
BELDAN – Raced wide throughout. When questioned as to the disappointing performance, jockey L. Cassidy was unable to offer any tangible explanation other than that the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. The stable confirmed that the horse would be sent for a spell.
SAVEEDA – Steadied from the heels of BELDAN approaching the 200m.
BREEZE ON BY – R. Wiggins will be interviewed at a later date regarding his riding over the concluding stages of the race.
CROSS THE STAR – Raced wide in the early stages.
ROMEO LAD – Slow to begin.
HARPSUND – Steadied and lost ground when tightened for room shortly after the start.
PRIVATE LABEL – Made contact with the running rail approaching the winning post and became unbalanced.
JETTING TO LONDON – Steadied and lost ground when tightened for room shortly after the start.
RED BERETTA – Slow to begin.
MANARIKI – Near the 400m was steadied from the heels of ROMEO LAD, which laid in.
Race 8: BENDWORX STEEL PIPE & PILE C,G&E CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1200M
ROYAL SCRIBE – Raced wide throughout. Taken wider near the 400m.
BEYOND HOLLYWOOD – Commenced to overrace at heels near the 800m and shifted out. Hung out badly leaving the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the near hind leg consistent with being galloped on. Trainer D. Duryea will be interviewed as to the gelding's racing manners at a later date.
HEAD DRAGON – Taken wider near the 400m.
PARTY SPIN – When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance, trainer J. Thomas stated that two starts ago at Doomben the horse had raced in a forward position, which is not its customary racing pattern, and as a result failed to finish the race off as expected, after which it was sent for a spell. Mr Thomas added that the gelding's most recent start was first up from the spell over an unsuitable distance of 800m and he also indicated that the gelding did not appreciate the firm track condition on that occasion. Mr Thomas was therefore of the view that the gelding benefited from the addition of bar plates for today's race. The explanation was accepted.
LUCK AND FAME – Forced wider near the 800m and raced three wide from that point onwards. Taken wider near the 400m.
Race 9: BENDWORX PRESSING & ROLLING F&M CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1200M
HIGH ACE – R. Fradd reported that his mount was galloped on by the riderless horse near the 600m.
BANCHORY LASS – Galloped on by a riderless horse near the 600m.
EKOFANIDEA – Had to be checked severely to avoid a fallen rider near the 1000m, became very unbalanced, almost dislodging apprentice R. Jamieson, and as a result took no further competitive part in the event. Apprentice Jamieson reported that as a result of this incident she was struck in the face by the head of her mount and as a result she was unable to fulfil her engagements at the Sunshine Coast this evening. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
LA RIVE DROITE – Had to be steadied when inconvenienced by a riderless horse near the 700m and again near the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed to small puncture wound to the horse's off foreleg.
CHANTILLY MISS – Clipped the heels of LA RIVE DROITE near the 1000m, blundered and dislodged jockey B. El-Issa. Jockey El-Issa was transported to the Ipswich General Hospital for observation. An inquiry into this incident was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed to allow jockey El-Issa to be present. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
