RACE 1: SIRROMET MAIDEN H’CAP – 2170M
ONEMORE FOR WILSON – Hung out badly making the first turn and shifted ground, resulting in it racing 4 wide into the first turn before being allowed to stride forward to find a position with cover after the 1300m. Bumped heavily by DUKE OF KINGSFORD leaving the 400m when that runner shifted in whilst hanging.
MR MARBLES – Steadied and shifted away from the rail making the first turn to avoid the heels of GROBBELAAR, which steadied in front. T. Harrison, the rider of GROBBELAAR, was warned regarding steadying the pace.
HIGH ADVERSITY – Held up from the 600m until after the 400m.
EXCELLENT WINNER – Slow to begin.
GROBBELAAR – Shifted in, struck the rail and became unbalanced approaching the 100m. Lost its off fore plate in running.
SPIRITOF TRAVESTON – Began awkwardly.

RACE 2: SCHWEPPES QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1680M
ENEMY'S DEFEATED – Restrained immediately after the start and shifted across to a rearward position. When overracing near the 1400m was checked and shifted out to avoid heels and then continued to overrace for some distance.
FLINDERS DRAGON – Overraced badly in the early stages when caught racing three wide without cover, allowed to stride forward to race outside the lead.
GOWAN BRAE – Held up rounding the home turn before securing clear running on straightening.
MAJOR SCOOP – Slow to begin then hampered shortly after.
MOSHULU – Laid in for a major part of the home straight.
PATRIARCH – Broke through the front of its stall after being boxed, was returned to the start, examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared suitable to race.
SUMAN THE YAK – T. Bell was reprimanded for using the whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
RACE 3: RAY WHITE IPSWICH F&M MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M
SKYLAR'S STAR – Bled both nostrils, first time. Ineligible to start for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.
TRUSTED LOVE – Slow into stride. Awkwardly placed close to heels on straightening.
AUDREE – Held up rounding the home turn.
FLINDERS PEAK – When questioned, T. Harrison explained that after beginning well she crossed to the lead in the early stages, however was mindful of her instructions to try to obtain cover. She said that when AUDREE improved to her outside she was content to let that horse cross her, which would have afforded her cover. She said when she elected to do this she then became aware that SKYLAR'S STAR, which was racing three wide, improved forward, and having elected to allow AUDREE to cross, she was then placed further back than she wished when AUDREE allowed SKYLAR'S STAR to cross to the lead.
HONEY AND ROSES – Caught racing three wide in the early stages, was ridden forward after the 900m to find a position closer to the rail near the 700m.
ROSE OF TRAVESTON – When asked to explain the horse's performance, rider T. Bell stated that it was his intention to ride the filly in a more forward position, however after beginning only fairly, the horse settled back further than he anticipated and never travelled comfortably throughout the race and in his opinion was disappointing.
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to SOFT 5 retrospective.
RACE 4: QUEENSLAND TIMES C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M
BIANTIC – Began very awkwardly, resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced.
MANTECADO – Dipped on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
REGAL CLANG – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
PREMIERE PLACE – Examined by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers at the request of the rider and cleared to start. Raced three wide without cover.
TAMBOR BLANCO – Steadied from heels near the 200m.
SILENCE IS AVIRTUE – Slow to begin.
RACE 5: SKY RACING CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1350M
SKYTASTIC – Raced in restricted room to the inside of OVERRULE rounding the home turn.
MAX IT OUT – When questioned regarding her mount shifting away from the rail from the 500m, Ms T. Harrison explained that in today's track conditions she was of the opinion that in the straight the going was superior away from the rail. She said with this in mind she discussed this with the trainer who instructed her to endeavour to shift out from the 500m to allow the filly to race on what he considered to be the better section of the track. Trainer T. Gollan confirmed the instructions.
ELEGANT MACHINE – Stumbled on jumping, almost dislodging its rider. As a result, R. Fradd lost the use of his left stirrup for a short distance. Inconvenienced near the 900m when SKYTASTIC shifted out.
LUNA TUNE – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
RACE 6: CITY OF IPSWICH BM75 H’CAP – 1680M
KEREDARI – Slow to begin.
KING LUDWIG – When questioned, apprentice R. Ride explained that her intentions in the race were to lead, however she was aware that when UNION improved in the early stages to be racing outside her horse, it commenced to overrace and despite her attempts, proved very difficult to settle. She said making the first turn she was able to allow UNION to stride forward and cross her horse. Ms Ride further advised her instructions were to endeavour to make her run from the 700m, and with those in mind, when UNION crossed her mount she elected after the 900m to shift away from the rails to race outside of UNION. Ms Ride was told that the tactics she adopted lacked judgment and it would have been far more preferable had she remained racing behind UNION to allow her horse to have cover instead of endeavouring to fulfil her instructions at a later stage of the race than she did on this occasion.
UNION – When questioned, apprentice A. Fancourt said that in the early stages when racing outside of KING LUDWIG, UNION proved very difficult to settle when racing head and head with KING LUDWIG on its inside. As she was unable to get UNION to come back to obtain cover, she decided at the 1300m to let the gelding stride forward hoping that once it crossed to the rail it would then settle better and therefore she elected to stride forward. She said she was mindful of the tempo that was set in the early and middle stages, however felt she had little option other than to take the run that she did. Ms Fancourt was advised that she should have taken greater measures to endeavour to restrain UNION than she did on this occasion and was advised that her riding in the early and middle stages on this occasion had lacked judgment.
SATIRICAL BOY – Slow to begin.
TIPS 'N' TALES – Slow to begin.
SCRAPINDIPITY – Finished tailed off. The performance was considered not acceptable to a metropolitan standard and trainer R. Peterson was advised that the gelding would be restricted to non-metropolitan racing.
CHANGE OF LUCK – Checked at the start when badly crowded from the inside. The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding sustained a small laceration to the near foreleg consistent with being galloped on.
RACE 7: CHANNEL 7 CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1200M
CHARGE MISSILE – Unable to secure clear running for some distance in the home straight and as a result was unable to be fully tested. Apprentice B. Stower dropped her whip near the 50m.
MENACING – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
RACE 8: OPTUS BUSINESS DIRECT CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1010M
EPSILON – Apprentice A. Fancourt said that in the past the mare has shown good early speed in its races and has a good first-up record. She said today from the jump the mare did not show its customary early speed, which surprised her as the rider. She said the horse was somewhat one-paced in the straight and did not finish the race off and was most disappointing. Trainer T. Gollan advised that in the horse's previous preparation it had some upper respiratory issues and had undergone treatment for this both prior to and during its spell. He said since this the horse had been in work for some time in his stable and had pleased him. He was somewhat mystified as to today's performance as in the past the mare has shown far more early speed that it did today. He was of the view after the race that it may have been showing signs of being in season. Mr Gollan undertook to have the horse thoroughly examined by his stable veterinarian and would report to stewards the finding of that examination.
STELLENBOSCH LOVE – Application was made for the horse to be declared a non-runner. It was established that the mare had been fractious in the barriers and that prior to the race the trainer had requested that the horse have a head and tail applied in the gates as the horse in the past has been fractious. This assistance was provided. When the start was effected, STELLENBOSCH LOVE, which had had its head turned to the nearside for some time prior to the start, with the assistance of an attendant, had its muzzle slightly behind the partition to the extent that it was not afforded the opportunity of jumping with the field. As a result, STELLENBOSCH LOVE missed the start considerably. As the stewards were of the view that the horse was not afforded a fair start, in accordance with the requirements of AR. 134, it was declared a non-runner. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on STELLENBOSCH LOVE be refunded with the following deductions to apply to betting:
1 cent in the dollar for the Win #2
4 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #7
