GENERAL
As J. Lloyd was ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
RACE 1: BROTHERS LEAGUES CLUB CLASS 3 H’CAP – 800M
PAYBACK – When asked to comment on the horse's performance, rider S. Bogenhuber stated that after being slow to begin the horse quickly mustered speed, however then commenced to hang out until rounding the home turn and shifted wider on the track at that point. She added that PAYBACK then started to let down nicely, however a short distance later commenced to compound and was very disappointing. She said she felt the horse may have got its tongue over the bit. Trainer T. Sears stated that in his opinion the horse may have got its tongue over the bit, which he attributed to the gelding's poor performance. He added that it would now be his intention to add a tongue tie to the horse's gear. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting an abnormal respiratory noise. Mr Sears was advised that he must provide the results of an endoscopic examination of the gelding prior to it being permitted to race again. A post-race swab sample was taken.
ZAGAZIG – Began awkwardly.
NUG'S POCKET – Slow to begin.
RACE 2: BROTHERS FOOTBALL CLUB CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1666M
On return to scale M. Cahill, the rider of ALL CLEAR, placed 3rd by the Judge, lodged an objection against PANNO ROSSA being declared 2nd, alleging interference rounding the home turn. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol footage, it was established that rounding the home turn CHATEAUROUX, which was hanging out despite the efforts of its rider, shifted out, tightening the running of ALL CLEAR out on to PANNO ROSSA, which shifted in marginally, resulting in ALL CLEAR having to be steadied. Accordingly, stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the Judge's placings. Following this incident, ALL CLEAR was awkwardly placed at the heels of PANNO ROSSA and unable to improve until approaching the 100m.
ROCKDAY – Began awkwardly.
CHATEAUROUX – On returning to scale L. Tarrant reported that his mount had a tendency to hang out throughout the event. Trainer P. Evans was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse's racing manners.
O'GRADY – Began awkwardly. Overraced in the early and middle stages until a point leaving the 700m where the rider elected to shift wider on the track to improve.
RACE 3: COMMON COURTESY PEST CONTROL MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M
DEVLIN POCKET – Shifted our shortly after the start placing LOOK I'M DANCING in restricted room, resulting in that runner being steadied. Became unbalanced rounding the home turn and shifted wider.
GREY GLITTER – Slow to begin. Hung in near the 300m and had to be steadied from heels.
WAR STREET – Began awkwardly.
LUCKY SHOW GIRL – Commenced to overrace a short distance after the start and shifted in abruptly making contact with the hind quarters of METEOR THUNDER, then continued to overrace for a short distance.
STORM ANCHOR – Raced ungenerously and hung out in the middle stages. Shifted wider on the home turn. Trainer R. Drysdale was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding's racing manners. L. Tarrant dropped his whip near the 200m.
LOOK I'M DANCING – Placed in restricted room shortly after the start and had to be steadied. Hampered approaching the 200m when STORM ANCHOR shifted in as a result of METEOR THUNDER shifting in and away from LUCKY SHOW GIRL.
RACE 4: CHEK AIR MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M
CRANKITUP – Slow to begin, then tightened for room on jumping away. Shifted out abruptly under pressure near the 200m.
DAZZLING SHIRAZ – Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages.
JADED – Began awkwardly. Lost its near hind plate in running.
SOPHIA'S MAGIC – Bumped at the start. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
DUBLEO DABBLE – Began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with another runner.
OUR REET PETITE – Trainer B. Currie was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse's Thoroughbred Identification Card. Raced three wide without cover throughout.
ROYAL EPIC – Slow to begin. Lost its near fore plate in running. Performed uncompetitively. Trainer R. Peterson was advised that the horse's nomination would be refused at TAB meetings until such time as its form improves at country venues. Mr Peterson indicated that he would now retire the horse from his stable.
RACE 5: SURFACE ARCHETYPES F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
Correct weight was delayed to afford R. Fradd, the rider of 2nd placegetter HOLLYWOOD BARBIE, the opportunity of viewing the patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds on which to lodge an objection against the winner I'M IN LOVE. After viewing the video jockey Fradd declined to proceed with an objection. Stewards also viewed the video of the race prior to declaring correct weight and given the proximity of the interference to the winning post and the margin separating both horses at the finish, they were comfortable with jockey Fradd's decision.
HOLLYWOOD BARBIE – Slow to begin. Had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight and then near the 50m was hampered when I'M IN LOVE shifted out under pressure.
I'M IN LOVE – Slow to begin. Shifted out under pressure near the 50m.
MOCK ME NOT – Raced three wide without cover.
POP BUBBLE POP – Rider A. Fancourt lost the use of her nearside rein approaching the 200m before regathering.
HIGH DEGREE – Raced wide throughout.
MADAME BOLLINGER – Slow to begin.
COL'S PRIDE – Slow to begin. Performed uncompetitively. Trainer K. Wenck was advised that the horse's nomination would be refused at TAB meetings until such time as its form improves at country venues.
RACE 6: GRANDMA'S GIRLS C,G&E CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
THE LYNCHES – Began awkwardly. Compounded in the home straight. When asked to explain the performance, which was below market expectations, jockey G. Colless explained that he was asked to be positive on the horse today, which after beginning well was able to lead, however once leaving the 600m the horse was under pressure and then commenced to compound in the home straight and was most disappointing. Trainer J. Petersen was at a loss to explain the poor performance as the horse had trialled well leading up to today's event and gave an undertaking to report to stewards anything that comes to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Mr Petersen was advised that the gelding must officially trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again.
TWO ROUND MEN – Began awkwardly.
WORLD SERIES – When questioned regarding the horse's improved performance, trainer R. Drysdale stated that he has not been disappointed with the horse's two previous runs, where at Ipswich on 14 August the horse raced well and was only beaten 5 lengths in good time, and then at its most recent start at Warwick on 21 August the horse lost considerable ground at the start, which was a telling factor on its performance, and therefore he was not surprised with a forward showing today. Stewards noted his explanation.
KING KAIYO – Slow into stride.
RACE 7: JENNY RYAN MEMORIAL C,G&E RATINGS BAND 0-65 H’CAP – 1200M
SIGNPOST – Had to be restrained from the heels of other runners near the 800m when the pace steadied.
KATZENPFOETCHEN – Slow to begin.
RED LETTER DAY – Raced wide for the majority of the event and was forced wider by another runner leaving the 700m.
MONSIEUR HUGHES – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
DEITCH – Raced ungenerously for a short distance leaving the 1100m when being crossed by other runners.
GREAT INAGUA – Improved quickly onto heels near the 400m and had to be checked.
OUTBACK BIFF – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer M. Kropp stated that whilst the horse has only had three starts for his stable, he had elected to make significant gear changes of removing the blinkers and tongue tie off the gelding for this start, and he attributed the improved performance to these changes. Stewards noted the explanation, but nonetheless advised Mr Kropp they would expect the horse to hold its form.
FLAME FIGHTER – When questioned regarding the horse's disappointing performance, rider T. Bell advised that he was at a loss to offer any tangible explanation for the performance other than he was very disappointed. Trainer G. Heinrich's stable representitive Mr B. Rogers advised stewards that in view of today's performance it is now the intention that FLAME FIGHTER be retired from racing.
