Race 6: Magic Millions Snippets 1200m
GIN A TONIC – Trainer Representative B. Hull informed Stewards that the gelding has now been sent for a spell.
GENERAL
As Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor was unable to make the allocated weight in Race 8, he was replaced on ESPADA ROPERA by D. Thornton. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor was fined $200 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
Trainer R. Chatterton was severely reprimanded pursuant to LR 36(6)(a) for failing to scratch MAURITA by the prescribed time which was a dual acceptor in races 2 and 3.
Trainer D. Forster was severely reprimanded pursuant to LR 36(7)(a) for failing to scratch BOLD BIDDER by the prescribed time which was a dual acceptor in races 6 and an emergency in race 7.
Trainer R. Chatterton was reprimanded under LR67(1) for the late declaration of A Goindasamy as the rider of MAURITA in Race 2.
Prior to the running of Race 1, Stewards upgraded the track to a Soft 5 at 12:30pm.
RACE 1: TAB MAIDEN HANDICAP 1700 M
MICHIFUKU – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority. Apprentice O. Webb reported that her mount raced greenly throughout.
SPOT THE AUSSIE – Over-raced in the early stages. Commenced to race greenly when placed under pressure near the 400m.
WANNA KISS - Over-raced in the early stages.
DASHING MARS – Laid in approaching the winning post and had to be corrected by its rider.
ENIDZEL – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after presenting with minor abrasions on both front fetlocks and was cleared to start. Raced wide. Jockey A. Thompson was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(6)(b) for using his whip in an action that raised it above shoulder height.
HE IS THE KISS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having raced at Ballina 16/01/26 and was cleared to start.
LOVE TO BE PROUD – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Near the 800m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied.
OUR ESPRIT– Slow to begin.
PREACHABULL – Jockey J. Taylor reported at scale that his mount was inclined to hang in throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
RACE 2: GREAT NORTHERN RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1990 M
CHEERS – Near the 400m, laid in when placed under pressure. Laid in over the final 200m.
MARAVICH (IRE) – Forced wider near the 1700m. Near the 400m, had to be checked when tightened for room between CHEERS, which laid in under riding and BOKUDEN, which was carried out by GLENRAY'S MATE. Jockey R. Thorburn the rider of CHEERS was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding and was advised to stop and straighten his mounts in similar circumstances. Apprentice C. Krahnen the rider of GLENRAY’S MATE was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding and advised to stop and straighten her mounts when shifting ground.
BOKUDEN – Near the 1700m, shifted out after improving onto the heels of GLENRAY'S MATE. Near the 1500m, had to be momentarily steadied from the heels of GLENRAY'S MATE which shifted out whilst over-racing. Raced wide. Near the 400m, raced in restricted room between GLENROYS MATE and MARAVICH (IRE).
GLENRAY'S MATE – Near the 1700m, raced in restricted room for a short distance to the inside of LOVE 'N' GAMES. Near the 1500m, commenced to over-race when being restrained in an attempt to obtain cover. Raced wide.
KEY COMPONENT – Shifted out near the 800m when the pace of the race slackened and was permitted to stride forward. Laid out under pressure rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.
CLASSIQUE GAL – Raced in restricted room near the 800m when GLENRAY'S MATE shifted in. Apprentice C. Krahnen was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
MAURITA – Near the 1800m, steadied when awkwardly placed at heels whilst restraining for cover. Jockey A. Goindasamy was charged pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m and 16 times in totality. Jockey A. Goindasamy’s license to ride in races was suspended for 8 days commencing midnight 24th January and concluding midnight 1st February 2026. When determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Jockey A. Goindasamy’s excellent record in relation to this rule. Jockey A. Goindasamy was advised of his right to appeal.
RACE 3: RAY WHITE IPSWICH BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 2190 M
LENAPE VIBE – Slow to begin. Momentarily held up approaching the home turn.
DEMARCAY (GB) – Commenced to over-race leaving the 1500m, shifted in and contacted the running rail on several occasions. Whilst over-racing, shifted out near the 1100m and was permitted to stride forward and take up the lead near the 900m.
FLYING BAT – Began awkwardly.
ABOVEFORTY– Connections advised of a change of tactics in that ABOVEFORTY would attempt to settle more forward. Settled midfield. Jockey B. Thompson reported at scale that ABOVEFORTY was disappointing when placed under pressure and in his opinion did not appreciate today’s track conditions.
LOVEY DOVEY – Slow to begin.
STYNSY (NZ) – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that STYNSY would attempt to be more forward from the wide barrier. Failed to muster speed and settled at the rear of the field. Jockey D. Moor reported at scale that his mount failed to travel at any stage of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its near hindleg. Trainer J. Bruce was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
AUTUMNGIRL – Over-raced early. Jockey M. Rodd reported at scale that in his opinion, the mare did not appreciate the step up in distance and recommended to connections to consider dropping back in distance next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer K. Schweida advised that the mare would now be sent for a spell.
After the running of this race, Stewards upgraded the track to a Good 4 at 2:56pm.
RACE 4: BARRIER REEF POOLS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1350 M
CAMBRIDGE BAY – Declared a late scratching at 9:24am on veterinary advice. Co. Trainer P. Hulbert was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to CAMBRIDGE BAY racing again.
FRENCH LINER – Jockey C. Graham reported at scale that that her mount was inclined to over-race, which had a detrimental effect on its finishing efforts. Whilst weakening near the 250m had to be steadied when tightened for room by CLIODHNA MAEVE (NZ), which was disappointed for a run to the inside of GUNNIE GUNFIGHTER which laid in before being corrected by its rider.
COOLOUNDRA – When asked to comment on the performance of COOLOUNDRA, Jockey P. Hamblin reported that the gelding failed to muster speed early however finished the race off well and in his opinion would appreciate a step up in distance.
CLIODHNA MAEVE (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Held up approaching the home turn. Near the 250m, shifted in and bumped with FRENCH LINER and became unbalanced and was then disappointed for a run to the inside of GUNNIE GUNFIGHTER, which laid in before being corrected by its rider. When asked to comment on the performance of CLIODHNA MAEVE (NZ), Jockey J. Lloyd reported that his mount in his opinion did not appreciate racing to the inside of other runners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
QUEEN OF LIGHT (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Near the 250m, bumped with ISLA DELILAH
PRINCE PHOENIX – Began awkwardly.
ISLA DELILAH – Bumped near the 250m by QUEEN OF LIGHT (NZ). Raced in restricted room approaching the 100m.
RATENOTICE – Raced wide throughout.
BATTUTA – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that BATTUTA would attempt to settle midfield or better. Ridden accordingly. Held up approaching the home turn. Near the 250m was bumped by ISLA DELILAH, which was taken in by QUEEN OF LIGHT (NZ).
AIR CONTROL – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that AIR CONTROL would attempt to settle more forward. Settled midfield. Began awkwardly, made contact with the outside barrier partition on jumping away and lost ground. Commenced to over-race near the 1200m and near the 1000m had to be steadied from the heels of RATENOTICE which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey B. Lerena the rider of RATENOTICE was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Raced wide throughout.
SCUTI – Hampered on jumping away.
RACE 5: TEMPUS TWO BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1700 M
THE CATCH – Near the 1400m, was bumped and then crowded for room by YUKANUMA, which shifted in and away from WANDA'S OUTLAW.
EXPECTANT – Slow to begin. Leaving the 1600m, improved quickly to the inside of TOBA, which was also shifting inwards, and as a result EXPECTANT had to be momentarily steadied. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor the rider of TOBA and Apprentice C. Lowe the rider of EXPECTANT were both advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
YUKANUMA – Leaving the 1400m, shifted in and away from WANDA'S OUTLAW.
KIPTANUI– Began awkwardly and was then hampered.
LIKEABEEL – Slow to begin.
LUCONI – When asked to comment on the performance of LUCONI, Jocey B. Lerena reported that his mount failed to travel comfortably for the majority of the event and that he became concerned with the gelding’s action over the final 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Bruce was advised that LUCONI would be required to officially trial prior to racing again.
SACRED BULL (NZ) – Approaching the 1400m, was crowded for room and had to be steadied to the inside of EXPECTANT, which shifted in after improving onto the heels of THE CATCH.
WANDA'S OUTLAW – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Jockey C. Graham reported at scale that her mount raced ungenerously in the early stages.
RACE 6: SEVEN NEWS CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 M
BELIEVE IN ANGELS (NZ) - Commenced to over-race near the 1000m when being steadied. Near the 50m was crowded for room between BLUISH HUE which shifted in marginally and JUKEBOX IN SIBERIA which shifted out. Apprentice B. Youngberry the rider of JUKEBOX IN SIBERIA was advised to exercise greater care.
BLUISH HUE – Began awkwardly. Commenced to over-race near the 1000m when being steadied. Near the 800m whilst over-racing, had to be steadied from the heels of BELIEVE IN ANGELS (NZ), which shifted in when taking cover from THE STARS. Jockey B. Thompson, the rider of BELIEVE IN ANGELS (NZ), was advised to exercise greater care and ensure that he is fully clear of runners before steadying.
BOLD BIDDER – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Shifted out under pressure over the final 100m.
LIGHTNING STRIKES - Began awkwardly. Had to be steadied from the heels of BLUISH HUE near the 800m. Over-raced in the middle stages of the event.
JUKEBOX IN SIBERIA – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 150m, improved onto the heels of LUMENS LENNY. Near the 50m, when awkwardly placed at the heels of LUMENS LENNY, shifted out and crowded BELIEVE IN ANGELS (NZ).
THE STARS – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that THE STARS would attempt to settle with cover. Began awkwardly and settled at the rear of the field with cover.
PROMETIO MAS – Began awkwardly and was then hampered.
RACE 7: IPSWICH PARTY HIRE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD & FOUR-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1100 M
JIMMYINTHEJUNGLE – Raced wide for the majority. Laid out approaching the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed heat stress.
AQUATIER – Began awkwardly and shifted out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer G. Doughty was advised of the provisions of AR79(4). Lost both front plates.
BONFIRE SPARK – Raced wide for the majority.
JOY A PLENTY – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
WHISPERING ROGUE – Began awkwardly and bumped with I'LLTELLYOUTONIGHT.
PRETTY DUBIOUS – Began awkwardly. Trainer R. Heathcote reported that it would be his intention to add blinkers to the geldings gear next start and would attempt to ride PRETTY DUBIOUS in a more forward position.
KIRRA'S SISTER – Began awkwardly and shifted out. When asked to comment on the performance of KIRRA’S SISTER, Apprentice J. Williams reported that his mount failed to travel comfortably and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Lee was advised that the mare would now be required to trial prior to racing again. Trainer J. Lee advised that the mare would now be sent for a spell.
HELLO LOVELY – Laid in in the early part of the home straight and approaching the 200m, shifted out to improve into clear running.
I'LLTELLYOUTONIGHT – Began awkwardly and bumped with WHISPERING ROGUE. Improved onto heels near the 800m and shifted out. Near the 200m, improved onto heels and shifted in to secure clear running.
BRUTAL GLORY – Slow to begin.
RACE 8: THE INDUSTRY SCHOOL BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1350 M
RUSSIAN SUB – Declared a late scratching at 2:26pm due to transport difficulties.
POWERFUL EAGLE – Began awkwardly.
NAGAMIE– Began awkwardly. Raced wide. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer B. Laming was advised that a warning would now be placed on the gelding in relation to its racing manners.
CARDIOLOGIST– Improved onto heels leaving the 100m and was unable to be fully tested for the remainder of the event.
BLACK MINTO – Over-raced in the middle stages.
GALEKA – Began awkwardly. Near the 100m, had to be steadied when crowded for room between ESPADA ROPERA and BLACK MINTO which laid in under pressure before being corrected by its rider.
TANGO QUEEN (NZ) – Raced wide.
GLASS OF ROSE – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted today, Jockey L. Tilley explained that his instructions were to be positive from the inside barrier. Trainer J. Dunn confirmed the instructions and added that with the addition of blinkers he expected GLASS OF ROSE to be more forward than its last start, however, was surprised to see the mare leading today’s event. Trainer J. Dunn was reprimanded pursuant to AR100(1)(a) for failing to notify Stewards of a change of tactics.
ESPADA ROPERA- Connections advised of a change of tactics in that ESPADA ROPERA would attempt to settle with cover. Ridden accordingly. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Had to be steadied when tightened for room shortly after the start when BETTER NOT FORGET not shifted in.
