RACE 1:BARRIER REEF POOLS QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (1100 METRES)
EVER SO READY – Raced wide without cover in the early stages, then shifted in approaching the 800m.
PRIVATE MAX – Raced keen early.
CATFISH – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced three-wide without cover from the 800m.
VANZADEE – Approaching the 800m, had to be restrained away from the heels of EVER SO READY (J. Lloyd) which shifted in when not clear. J. Lloyd was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Approaching the 300m, was steadied when close to the heels of EVER SO READY which had been bumped and carried wider by HOLY TERROR (R. Stewart). R. Stewart was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a).
ACRODANCE – Over-raced in the early stages. Approaching the 900m, when over racing, had to be steadied when improving onto the heels of PRIVATE MAX and as a result, had to restrain and shift out. Rider M. Du Plessis reported in his opinion the filly resented the cross-over noseband. Lost its near-fore plate. A post-race veterinary examination determined that the filly had bled from both nostrils. Trainer P. Shailer was notified that in accordance with AR79(4), ACRODANCE shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse, recognised training track, private training establishment, or other place for a period of two months; (b) start in any race for a period of 3 months, and then only after: (i) a gallop of at least 1000 metres; or (ii) an official trial or jump-out; in the presence, and to the satisfaction of a Steward.
ADORA DJON’S – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Rider C. Graham reported in her opinion the filly failed to handle the heavy track conditions.
WARREGO RIVER – Laid out over the concluding stages.
PAC FAIR – Rider K. Wilson-Taylor reported that in his opinion, the gelding raced well but would appreciate a step up in distance.
RACE 2:GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (1980 METRES)
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the official photo finish before agreeing with the Judges numbers and as a result declaring correct weight.
KERKORIAN – Very slow to begin. Shifted out near the 900m and commenced a three wide run from the 800m. Eased down over the concluding stages. Rider B. Wheeler could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
WHATJEUDOIN’ – Near the 900m, was bumped and carried wider by KERKORIAN which shifted out to improve.
SUNNY DISPOSITION – Shifted out on jumping and bumped KALKANLI. Raced keen in the early stages.
PELE PRINCESS – Began awkwardly.
STEEL IMPACT – Raced wide without cover in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to the lead. Rider B. Thompson reported he was instructed to be forward on the mare but it was not his intention to lead in today’s event. He further added that after being caught wide in the early stages he elected to stride forward to lead to avoid racing wide, which was further forward than intended.
KALKANLI – Bumped at the start. Rider lost his whip near the 200m.
After the race, rider J. Lloyd was assessed by QAS and passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.
RACE 3:TAB Maiden Plate (1690 METRES)
ABLESHEEBA – Shifted in on jumping and bumped LA GRACIA.
SPEEGLE – Raced keenly in the early stages whilst in the lead.
SORUTAL – Eased down over the final 400m. Rider A. Keeley could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer R. Chatterton was advised the mare would be required to Officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
WEDDING VOW – Began awkwardly, shifted in and hampered MELANCOLIE. Shortly after the start, dipped in the going. Raced greenly in the home straight shifting in under pressure.
BURN BOBBY BURN – Change of tactics – further forward. Settled towards the rear. Eased down over the final 400m. Rider N. Tomizawa reported that after placing the gelding under pressure, it failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. He further added that the gelding made a respiratory noise. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. The training partnership of D. & G. Lane was advised the gelding will need to obtain a veterinary certificate inclusive of an endoscopic examination prior to racing again and the gelding would be required to Officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
MELANCOLIE – Hampered shortly after the start.
LA GRACIA – Bumped at the start. Trainer J. Bayliss was reprimanded pursuant to AR194 for failing to have the mare in the mounting yard fifteen minutes prior to the race. The cross over noseband was adjusted at the start. Approaching the 1400m got its head up whilst being restrained.
RACE 4:FERTPRO QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1690 METRES)
The start of this race was delayed by approximately four minutes when LEICA LEMON became fractious in the barriers and reared on a number of occasions. After undergoing a pre-race veterinary examination was passed fit to start. Further, after being loaded on the second occasion it was again fractious and underwent a veterinary examination whereby LEICA LEMON was declared a late-scratching at 1:48pm. Trainer G. Cornish was advised LEICA LEMON would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate. On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on LEICA LEMON to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st – BON VADER – 0c win, 0c place.
2nd – UNDER ARREST – 2c place.
3rd – PARADISE AS USUAL – 2c place.
BON VADER – Over-raced in the early stages. Near the 1400m, when racing keenly, was checked and steadied out to avoid the heels of HOPEFUL CAUSE (T. Marshall). Rider T. Marshall was reminded of his obligations. In not taking further action, stewards noted the racing manners of BON VADER along with R Maloney’s comments in relation to the incident. After this incident continued to over race through the middle stages.
HOPEFUL CAUSE – Slow to begin.
FIVE OF US – Rider G. Cartwright reported that in her opinion the filly failed to handle today’s heavy track conditions. Rider G Cartwright was reminded of her obligations under AR131(b) to ride her mount fully to the finish.
PARADISE AS USUAL – Slow to begin. Approaching the 200m, for a short distance, had some difficulty obtaining clear running.
COCCINELLA – Eased down over the final 100m. Apprentice B. Osmond could offer no explanation for the poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination identified a cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer A. Chau was advised that this is the first occasion and COCCINELLA must not start in a further race, official trial or jump out until the Stewards have received a satisfactory report from a qualified veterinary surgeon, which includes the results of (a) an electrocardiography (ECG) of more than 60 seconds duration performed by that veterinarian whilst the horse is at rest and (b) a cardiac auscultation performed by that veterinarian within 15 minutes of the horse completing a satisfactory Official Trial of at least 1000m.
RACE 5:SACRED ELIXIR QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (1350 METRES)
SLING – Raced keen and three-wide without cover in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to the lead near the 700m.
HELL OR HEAVEN – Began awkwardly.
MOTIVATING – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
MACEDON MISSION – Raced keenly early. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Shifted out under riding over the concluding stages.
ALTO LUNA – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and over the concluding stages, whilst laying in, had to be eased when close to the heels of MACEDON MISSION which had rolled out marginally.
PHERE THE WARREGO – Knuckled on jumping.
STEVENTOWN – Slow to begin.
RACE 6:GORDON'S GIN Class 3 Handicap (1100 METRES)
WINCHMAN – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.
DESTINYS SUMMIT – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
NEPRAVDA – Began awkwardly. Rider M. Rodd reported that the mare felt uncomfortable in its action in the home straight and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
SMART SHAZZA – Held up for clear running at the entrance to the home straight before shifting wider approaching the 200m to obtain clear running. A post-race veterinary examination determined that the mare had bled from both nostrils. Trainer J. Bruce was notified that in accordance with AR79(4), SMART SHAZZA shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse, recognised training track, private training establishment, or other place for a period of two months; (b) start in any race for a period of 3 months, and then only after: (i) a gallop of at least 1000 metres; or (ii) an official trial or jump-out; in the presence, and to the satisfaction of a Steward.
BAD FOREST – Near the 800m, had to ease when briefly racing in restricted room to the inside of ZAVEGA. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
ZAVEGA – Began awkwardly. The training partnership of A. Ross & T. Sweeney was reprimanded pursuant to AR194 for presenting their horse late to the enclosure.
RACE 7:RAY WHITE IPSWICH INCENTIVE SPRINT SERIES HEAT Class 1 Handicap (1100 METRES)
STRIKE WEAPON – Shifted out on jumping and bumped STABILIZER.
BAKED – Bumped at the start. Passing the 800m shifted out marginally and brushed with ARTIE VAINQUEUR.
JADA ROSE – Passing the 800m, was restrained when close to the heels of MOROCCAN WIND after being carried out by ARTIE VAINQUEUR, which had brushed with BAKED.
STABILIZER – Bumped at the start. Apprentice S. Callow was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using her whip above shoulder height.
ARTIE VAINQUEUR – Approaching the 800m, had to be steadied when close to the heels of SPIRIT OF BARTY (B. Thompson) which shifted in when not quite clear. B. Thompson was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding. Passing the 800m, was brushed and carried wider by BAKED which stepped out marginally.
RACE 8:SEVEN QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap (2180 METRES)
OPTIONS – Bumped at the start. Apprentice C. Sutherland reported that in his opinion the colt failed to handle today’s heavy track conditions and added once the colt changed lead legs in the straight, he found the line well and was pleased with the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
CHILLIES – Rider J. Childs reported that the tempo of today’s race did not suit the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed coughing. Trainer G. Begg was advised the colt will need to obtain a veterinary certificate inclusive of an endoscopic examination prior to racing again
CONTINGENCY – Shifted out on jumping and bumped PECCAVI. Raced keenly in the early stages.
PECCAVI – Bumped at the start. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Approaching the 200m was disappointed for a narrow run between TAP HIGH which shifted out marginally and OPTIONS. Was then held up again approaching the 50m and as a result, was unable to be fully tested to the line.
PEPE – Shortly after the start was bumped and hampered by SUMMATION which had been carried out.
SUMMATION – Shortly after start was hampered by CHILLIES which was bumped and carried wider by SECRET FENKEL, which in turn was carried wider by LONESOME SOUL which had shifted out. Raced keenly in the early stages and wanted to lay out round the home turn. Rider R. Stewart reported that the colt failed to travel well throughout the event and wanted to over-race and lay out throughout. He further added that in his opinion the colt failed to see out the strong 2000m. Lost its near fore plate. A post-race veterinary examination revealed coughing. Trainer C. Anderson was advised the colt will need to obtain a veterinary certificate inclusive of an endoscopic examination prior to racing again
TAP HIGH – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 1400m when racing keenly, had to ease away from the heels of CHILLIES and as a result then race wide from this point.
SIMPLY GOLD – Shifted out on jumping and bumped OPTIONS.
SECRET FENKEL – Raced three-wide without cover in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to settle in a handy position.
NORTY FORTY – Laid out rounding the home turn and in the straight.
