GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweights –
 
Race 1: R. Maloney +0.5kg (56.5kg)

Following the running of Race 1, Jockey R. Maloney was ill and stood down from the remainder of his riding engagements. Jockey R. Maloney was advised that a medical certificate would be required prior to riding again. Jockey R. Maloney was replaced as per the Race Day Summary.
 
Race 1 - TAB MAIDEN PLATE     1710 M
 
CHANCE DE LUNE – Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels rounding the home turn before shifting wider to secure clear running. Near the 250m, laid in across heels momentarily, obliging its rider to stop and straighten.

AREMKAY – Slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages. Apprentice O. Kendal reported at scale that her mount raced greenly in the early stages.
 
MAREMOTO – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
SIR ARROGONCE – Connections advised a change of tactics – attempt to settle further forward. Ridden accordingly.

SLIGHTLY SQUEEZE – Lost its off-hind plate.

KONIGSTEIN – Made the crossing awkwardly. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
CRUNCH TIME (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.      

Race 2 - THE LAWN SHED QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE          1350 M
 
CRAZY EIGHTS – Held up in the early part of the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
THREEEYEDWITCH – Near the 1100m was galloped on when WIN STAR was over-racing and restraining for cover. Raced wide. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to its off-hind hock.

TOMMY TIE - Raced wide. Approaching the 600m, bumped with HIT A LICK

ANDER'S DREAM – Began awkwardly, momentarily unbalancing its rider.

FLYING MIG - Began awkwardly.
 
HANG UP – Slow into stride.
 
HIT A LICK – Raced wide. Approaching the 600m, bumped with TOMMY TIE. Near the 300m, became momentarily awkwardly placed at the heels of ANDER'S DREAM, which shifted out under pressure.

WIN STAR – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the early stages, Jockey M. Harley reported that he began very well, however with multiple runners improving to his inside, rather than being caught wide, he elected to restrain to obtain a position with cover. Jockey M. Harley was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using his whip above shoulder height.
 

Race 3 - VINCE INSURANCE BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP          800 M
 
VEGAS RAIDER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after resuming from an extended spell and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
DIAMANTINA ROSE – Began awkwardly and shifted in.

DONT CALL ME HONEY – Near the 200m, whilst tiring, momentarily raced in restricted room when STATE IN TEXAS shifted out. Apprentice J. Williams, the rider of STATE IN TEXAS, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.

PEWTER PEARL – Slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.


Race 4 - FERTPRO RATINGS BAND 0 - 65 HANDICAP          1350 M
 
APOLLO TEN – Began awkwardly and lost ground.    
 
BLUISH HUE – Improved onto heels approaching the 600m and was steadied. Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the home turn.
 
KADESKY – Jockey B. Thompson reported at scale that KADESKY was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
TILL DUSK – Laid out rounding the home turn.

LEBANESE – Laid out rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure near the 200m.

TEN CARAT LUCY – Slow to begin.
 
BOLSHEVIC ROAD – Slow to begin.               


Race 5 - BARRIER REEF POOLS RATINGS BAND 0 - 65 HANDICAP   1350 M
 
BARRELLING – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

FAGIN – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
BACCARAT ROUGE – Fractious leaving the mounting yard. Began awkwardly. Trainer W. Kropp was advised that a warning would now be placed on the mare in relation to its pre-race manners.

BUTTERFLY STYLE – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today, in particular, settling in a leading position, Jockey B. Lerena explained that his instructions were to take up a forward position. He added that his mount had to work harder than expected to initially cross FINANCIALLY FAMOUS near the 900m to secure a position to the outside of BARRELLING. Jockey B. Lerena further added that BUTTERFLY STYLE was racing keenly, and rather than attempt to restrain the mare, he elected to allow his mount to stride forward as he felt it was travelling well within itself. Stewards noted the comments. Trainer O. Cairns confirmed the instructions were to be positive on the mare and added that at its first start with the stable at the Gold Coast on 28th August 26, the mare was slow to begin, settled at the rear of the field and was inclined to over-race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed clinical signs of the thumps and a slow recovery. Stewards intend to review wagering data from the race.
 
CAPITAL CHORD – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

SILVER SMASH – Raced wide.

Race 6 - GREAT NORTHERN CLASS 1 HANDICAP   1200 M
 
DYAMI – Laid out before being corrected by its rider near the 150m.
 
BLUE WHITE BLUE – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mild heat stress.
 
MAQUISA - Connections advised a change of tactics – attempt to settle further forward. Settled midfield. Near the 800m, raced in restricted room to the inside of KATIE AINE, which was taken in by DYAMI. Apprentice E. Pozman, the rider of DYAMI, in the presence of Apprentice Mentor S. Scriven, was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Held up rounding the home turn.

MURKADO – Began awkwardly. Raced wide.

DEEP KHARMA – Raced wide.   

SUM INVICTUS – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.

EXPRESS STAR – Raced wide.

KATIE AINE – Carried in momentarily near the 800m.


Race 7 - GORDON'S GIN BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP          1100 M
 
COSMIC BEAUTY- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after resuming from an extended spell and was cleared to start. Fractious leaving the mounting yard and contacted the rail. Underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start. Leaving the 800m, raced in restricted room. Apprentice J. Williams reported at scale that COSMIC BEAUTY felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Dunn was advised that a warning would now be placed on COMSIC BEAUTY in relation to its pre-race manners.

SEQUEL – Performed below market expectations. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey T. Fenlon reported that in her opinion SEQUEL may appreciate a step up in distance and have come to the end of its preparation. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

ANDI DON'T CARE – When placed under pressure, raced greenly in the home straight.

IT'S RAINING AGAIN – Held up rounding the home turn.

MEET GEORGE – Leaving the 800m raced in restricted room to the inside of VANESSI,which shifted in. Jockey B. Thompson, the rider of VANESSI,was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding.
