Consideration was given to a protest lodged by S. Drake, rider of the 3rd placegetter, Life’s Like That, against Screaming Jet being declared 2nd, alleging interference inside the final 100m. Stewards were of the view that approaching the 50m, Life’s Like That was crowded for room and had to be restrained by its rider due to Screaming Jet gradually shifting ground over the concluding stages. Whilst stewards were of the view that the protest lodged had some merit, it was deemed that the interference suffered by Life’s Like That occurred too close to the finishing post and was not sufficient to reverse the placings bearing in mind the 1¾ length margin between 2nd and 3rd, and the objection was dismissed. Subsequently, L. Rolls, rider of Screaming Jet, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that inside the final 100 whilst riding his mount along he crossed the running of Life’s Like That, which was crowded and had to be checked. L. Rolls was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commenced at midnight, 15 March and to expire at midnight, 27 March.
LIFES LIKE THAT – Crowded and restrained near the 50m. Following the race it was noted that the saddle on Life’s Like That had shifted back.

A RARE OLD TIME – Badly crowded for room at the start. Rider N. Summers pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1200m she allowed her mount to shift in when leaving insufficient racing room to the inside for FALKOR, resulting in that horse striking the running rail and becoming badly unbalanced and checked by its rider. Jockey Summers was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 14 March and to expire at midnight 25 March. Hung out badly in the home straight and was unable to be tested by its rider.
