RACE 2: KILCOY DIGGERS CUP SUNDAY 24 AUGUST MAIDEN PLATE 1200 Metres
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, jockey M. Hellyer, rider of third placegetter, MAGICAL EYE lodged an objection against 2nd placegetter YONAKA (A. Allen) alleging interference over the concluding stages. Stewards heard submissions from all riders and stable representatives and after considering the protest for 3rd vs 2nd, Stewards were satisfied that after leaving the 100m, YONAKA maneuvered into a neat run to the inside of MAGICAL EYE, causing MAGICAL EYE to be taken off its rightful running line and being bumped on several occasions. Stewards when considering the beaten margin of a short half head and the interference suffered to MAGICAL EYE, were satisfied that had the interference have not occurred, MAGICAL EYE would have finished in advance of YONAKA, and therefore, upheld the objection declaring correct weight on the new numbers of 9,6,1,5. Jockey A. Allen was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in the future.
YONAKA – Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
WAITING FOR GRAHAM - Began awkwardly. Near the 600m, laid in making contact with the inside running rail and became unbalanced.

BLERIOT - Bumped near the 800m. Taken in slightly near the 650m.

BAROCCO BAR - Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 300m, when tiring, became awkwardly placed at the heels of COOK ISLAND GIRL (A. Allen) which shifted out slightly, and SHAPE OF WATER (C. Allen and apprentice C. Krahnen were reminded of their obligations to stop and straighten their mounts when shifting ground.
PHOENIX FLYER - Forced wider near the 600m and raced wide for the remainder.
COOK ISLAND GIRL - When asked to comment on performance, jockey A. Allen explained that in his opinion, the mare travelled only fair throughout and proved disappointing when asked for an effort. Hamblin to be awkwardly placed at heels and lose his rightful running. Apprentice S. Champkin’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 day commencing at midnight the 12th of July 2025 and to conclude at midnight the 20th of July 2025.
