GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 1. Y. Lewis +1kg
As Apprentice C. Vitler was not riding due to injury and Jockey M. Schrapel due to illness, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Trainer G. Neilson was reprimanded pursuant to LR 36(6)(a) for failing to scratch dual acceptor THE ROOKIE (Race 2) by the prescribed time.
A random selection of riders underwent alcohol breath testing at today’s meeting. A random selection of horses underwent sampling for hair testing at today’s meeting.
Race 1: PEACE & PROSPERITY Maiden Plate 1200 METRES
ARGENT EMPYREAN – Raced wide for the majority.
BUBBLY MOON – Raced wide for the majority. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first occasion. Trainer T. Thomas was advised of the provisions of AR 79(4).
SWEET ANTHE – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. Apprentice O. Webb reported that the mare raced greenly throughout. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer R. Davidson reported that he was not surprised to see a forward showing from the mare, as she had been working well at trackwork and the combination of the addition of winkers to her gear and a drop back in grade he had expected a forward showing today. Stewards noted Mr Davidson’s comments.
CHOCECLAIR – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination due to the filly arriving late on course and was subsequently cleared to start. A prerace sample was taken for analysis. Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
KINDRED – Began awkwardly.
VERY DEMURE – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SECRET ROSE. Raced greenly in the home straight.
SECRET ROSE – Buffeted between runners on jumping.
LILLY 'N' ROSE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
FORTUNAS GIRL – Shifted out at the start and bumped SECRET ROSE. Raced wide for the majority.
Race 2: HAPPY NEW YEAR Maiden Plate 800 Metres
The start of this race was delayed by approximately two minutes due to VIOLACEOUS requiring to undergo a pre race veterinary examination after becoming fractious in the barriers.
BETTER FOR IT – Bumped with SHAQUE D'AMOUR on multiple occasions shortly after the start.
SHE'S GOT IT – Trainer L. Wanless was fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time. Blundered at the start. Raced wide for the majority.
VIOLACEOUS – Apprentice S. Tierney reported that the filly was not suited to the pace of the race and would be better suited to races over further distances than that of todays’ event.
ARISTOCRATIC GIRL – Near the 300m, bumped on several occasions by SHAQUE D'AMOUR which continued to lay out. Raced wide for the majority. Bumped by SHAQUE D'AMOUR approaching the winning post.
SHAQUE D'AMOUR – Bumped with BETTER FOR IT on multiple occasions shortly after the start. Jockey H. Shaw reported that the gelding was inclined to hang out at various stages and proved difficult to ride out to the finish. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos was advised a warning would be placed on SHAQUE D'AMOUR for its racing manners.
Race 3: KILCOY EXCHANGE HOTEL QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 800 Metres
Stewards delayed correct weight to view the available footage of the start and to interview the Starter. After viewing the films, it was ascertained that as the start was effected, BETTERINDANUDE anticipated the start as the start was being effected, making contact with the barriers resulting in its gate opening slightly prematurely. Stewards were satisfied that the start was effected and no runners were unfairly advantaged and declared correct weight.
BETTERINDANUDE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a minor laceration to its left side nostril.
JOYFUL CONQUEST – Reared as the start was effected.
PIPPIE POMAR – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
REIGN OF DAME – Raced wide for the majority.
THE ROOKIE – Trainer G. Neilson was reprimanded pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time. Shifted out abruptly at the start.
VALADORE – Raced wide for the majority.
BONDONGA BELLE – Blundered at the start.
LOQUITO – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages and had to be steadied from heels.
Race 4: LADBROKES MATES MODE BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1900 Metres
CASTERLY ROCK – Harmlessly dislodged rider D. Boche enroute to the barriers. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide from the 800m.
CHANGE THE DEEL – Bumped with CHANCE WITH WOLVES at the start. Raced wide in the early stages.
HOKKAIDO (NZ) – Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost ground. Approaching the 1000m, momentarily steadied from heels when the pace of the race slackened. Raced wide from the 800m. Trainer R. Hay was advised HOKKAIDO (NZ) would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to resuming racing.
CHANCE WITH WOLVES – Bumped with CHANGE THE DEEL at the start. Raced wide in the early stages.
BACCARAT ROUGE – Began awkwardly. Laid in approaching the 400m.
REVELAIDE – Slow to begin and lost ground. Raced wide from the 800m.
BUDDY'S TALE – Began awkwardly.
Following the running of this race, Jockey L. Tilley was stood down from his remaining engagements after becoming ill, and rider replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 5: THANK YOU JENNY SEARLE RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1900 Metres
IMAGINA – Began awkwardly and bumped with SHACKAMAXON.
COSMIC INSANITY – Slow to begin.
BRAVE DEEL – Began awkwardly, inconvenienced shortly thereafter and lost ground.
PLANNED ENCOUNTER (NZ) – Over raced in the early and middle stages and shifted wider near the 1200m.
HELL OF A PRINCE – Began awkwardly. Apprentice O. Webb reported the gelding was plain in its effort from the 800m and failed to travel and in her opinion, may have come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
PIMPERNEL – Over raced in the early stages. Made the crossing at the 1200m awkwardly.
SHACKAMAXON – Bumped with IMAGINA at the start.
EARLSTON – Over raced in the early stages. Eased down near the 600m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying cardiac arrythmia (first occasion). Trainer G. Hay was advised of the provisions of Racing Australia’s Code of Practice for cardiac arrythmia.
Race 6: WELCOME REBECCA LAWSON RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1500 Metres
SUBDUE – Began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly. Steadied from heels near the 800m when racing keenly.
GOT YOURSELF A GUN – Slow to begin and lost ground.
DECARBONISE – Began awkwardly and bumped heavily by SUBDUE. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
RAPID DUDE – Raced wide for the majority. Approaching the 600m, raced in restricted room and had to be steadied from the heels of DECARBONISE which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey D. Turner, rider of DECARBONISE, was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
OAKFIELD STORM – Steadied from heels near the 1400m whilst over racing. Approaching the 600m, raced in restricted room to the inside of RAPID DUDE.
MAEVE – Laid out rounding the home turn.
TAKARA STAR – Raced wide for the majority.
AIN'T TELLIN – Approaching the 300m, raced in restricted room and had to be steadied when SUBDUE shifted in. Jockey P. Hamblin, rider of SUBDUE, was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
Race 7: GREAT NORTHERN BREWERY NEW YEAR CUP Class 1 Handicap 1200 Metres
LIGHTNING STRIKES - Near the 900m, obliged to steady from the heels and was inconvenienced when of MAY shifted out. Apprentice A. Graham, rider of MAY, was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
STORM FORCE TEN – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination due to resuming racing from an extended period. Fractious in the barriers.
LORD DANILO – Began awkwardly.
JEDIAH – Became momentarily unbalanced near the 800m. Near the 600m, steadied from the heels of LIGHTNING STRIKES.
BENEDICT ARNOLD – Laid in throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Hepworth was advised BENEDICT ARNOLD would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again due to the gelding’s racing manners.
MINXY – Slow to begin.
MAY (NZ) – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a minor laceration to the near foreleg consistent with being galloped on.
CASINO CAT – Fractious in the barriers.
Race 8: SEARLES GARDEN PRODUCTS RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1200 Metres
TRISKELION (NZ) – Raced wide for the majority. Forced wider leaving the 900m.
MYSTERY POWER – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages.
ISLAND MAGIC – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.
RESOLUTE LADY – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the 150m. When asked to comment regarding the tactics adopted, jockey J. Murphy stated that the instructions from the wide barrier were to restrain the mare to a position midfield with cover, however when runners to his inside showed more speed than he envisioned he found himself in a more rearward position than he intended. He added that near the 600m, he considered making a wide run, however at that point, VACILLATION then shifted wider and he was mindful of having to make such a wide run at this stage of the race. Stewards noted jockey Murphy’s comments. Trainer J. Edwards was reprimanded pursuant to AR100 for failing to notify a change of tactics.
MISS MERCY – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. Near the 900m, steadied from the heels of BEE EXACT which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice R. O’Connell, rider of BEE EXACT, was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
MONAZEL – Raced wide in the early stages. Forced wider leaving the 900m.
GRAND CRUSADER – Leaving the 900m whilst over racing, shifted wider forcing MISS MERCY, MONAZEL and TRISKELION (NZ) wider.
