GENERAL: RACE 2 – SEQUELENE and GIVE IT BERRIES were late scratchings at 1.00pm due to no riders being available.
RACE 1: XXXX GOLD MAIDEN PLATE 1000M
1st - Diamond Rush 2nd – Arvakur 3rd – Vice President 4th - Darkness Above
TUCKSHOP OPTIONS – jumped inwards making contact with DARKNESS ABOVE and during the race resented the kickback when racing back in the field.
DARKNESS ABOVE – resented the kickback when racing back in the field.
VICE PRESIDENT – over-raced in the middle stages and raced greenly throughout the event.
RACE 2: BARKERS NEWSAGENCY BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1000M
1st – Shaftsman 2nd – Hughie and Me 3rd – Natural Mist 4th – Honey Blonde
COWARDOFTHECOUNTY – was declared a late scratching at the barrier at 2.27pm when it refused to load into the gates. All monies invested on Cowardofthecounty were to be refunded in full. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and second placegetter prior to 2.27pm:
42 cents in the dollar for the winner - #4 (SHAFTSMAN)
33 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #4 (SHAFTSMAN)
33 cents in the dollar for the second place - #6 (HUGHIE AND ME)
Trainer Mr R Hermann was advised that the horse would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
BOLD INTERLUDE – raced wide for the majority of the event.
SHAFTSMAN – slow into stride
HONEY BLONDE – slow into stride
Jockey J Lambie (HUGHIE AND ME) was fined the sum of $200 for using his whip in a forehand manner and in consecutive strides more than the permitted number of times prior to the 100 metres.
RACE 3: CORNETTS IGA Class 4 HANDICAP 1000M
1st – Finnigan’s Folly 2nd – Kev’s Destiny 3rd – Rhythm Nation 4th – Standover
BELHARI BOY – Bounded in the air when leaving the barriers and lost some ground.
STANDOVER – over-raced in the early stages.
KEV’S DESTINY – had a tendency to hang out when approaching the home turn and in the home straight. Trainer Mr C Prow was questioned regarding the manners of Kev’s Destiny advised stewards that he would experiment with some gear changes prior to next start. On this undertaking a warning was issued regarding its racing manners.
RACE 4: THURECHT BROS SADDLERY OPEN HANDICAP 1000M
1st – Powerful Jet 2nd – Joe Blow 3rd – Heart Throb
4th – Dead Heat: Peace Talks/Reigning to Win
DOMINANT PLAY – slow to jump.
PEACE TALKS – slow to jump.
REIGNING TO WIN – slow into stride.
Correct weight was delayed to allow the riders of the dead-heaters for fourth to view the photo finish print. After doing so correct was declared on the numbers semaphored by the judge.
RACE 5: MERINO BAKERY BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1100M
1st – Boys Splurge 2nd – Forced Salute 3rd – Agent of Mercy 4th – Nou Camp
ROAR ABLIBERTY – rider had to alter course to avoid heels of BOYS SPLURGE, which shifted in momentarily after the start.
BOYS SPLURGE – jockey C Rogers pleaded guilty of a charge of careless riding in that approaching the first turn at the 950 metre mark she directed her mount outwards when insufficiently clear of NOU CAMP, which had to be checked by its rider and lose its position. Jockey Rogers’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 western Queensland meetings to commence at midnight 14 March 2015 and to expire at midnight 28 March 2015.
Correct weight was delayed to allow the rider of the second place getter to view the photo finish print for first. After doing so, the jockey was satisfied with the judge’s decision and stewards declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored by the judge.
