Race 1: Curley Cattle Maiden Plate 800 metres:
1st – WORDS AND PICTURES 2nd – GOOD MOOD 3rd – PAYOLA 4th – CRAIGLEA SACHA
I’M LATE I’M LATE – When no other rider was available stewards permitted jockey T Chambers to ride the filly 2kg over its declared weight. Was difficult to load. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
SALDANA – When leaving the enclosure reared over and dislodged apprentice S Chan. The mare underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Trainer Mr B Richardson was told that a warning would be placed on the mare.
PAYOLA – Was fractious in the barriers and began awkwardly.
CRAIGLEA SACHA – Reared as a start was effected.
SMOOTH MOVING MAMA – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
Race 2: IOR Petroleum Benchmark 65 Handicap 1400 metres:
1st – ESKERVINTH 2nd – MORE THAN WILLING 3rd – MONTH OF SUNDAYS 4th – MIATOKO
FELTON PHANTOM – Was a late withdrawal at 11:30am when no suitable rider was available.
GENERAL SON - When no other rider was available stewards permitted jockey T Chambers to ride the gelding 2.5kg over its declared weight. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
SPECK OF GOLD – Blundered on jumping and then raced wide rounding the home turn.
HEART THROB – Raced wide from the 800m.
THE PANTZ – Was slow to begin then raced wide for the majority.
MORE THAN WILLING – When questioned in relation to the improved performance trainer Mr J Jackson explained that in his opinion the gelding had derived fitness from its previous two runs and also attributed the performance to the change of jockey.
Race 3: Eloise Copper Mine QTIS Class 2 Handicap 1200 metres:
1st – WHAT THE HECK 2nd – TAVY NIGHTS 3rd – DIURNAL TIGER 4th – ARTIE’S SON
KAYAN - When no other rider was available stewards permitted jockey T Chambers to ride the filly 2.5kg over its declared weight. Approaching the 300m was disappointed for a run.
ARTIE’S SON - When no other rider was available stewards permitted jockey D Ballard to ride the gelding 4kg over its declared weight.
SERENE ROCKET – Raced wide throughout.
TAVY NIGHTS – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
WHAT THE HECK – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
Race 4: Minotaur Exploration Benchmark 75 Handicap 1000 metres:
1st – SURPASSER 2nd – TABASCO FORCE 3rd – STEINBERG 4th – PISMO BEACH
DARCEY – The start of the race was delayed when the mare proved difficult to load. Raced wide rounding the home turn. Jockey S Galvin reported that the mare failed to respond to his urgings in the early and middle stages however the mare ran on well in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any significant abnormalities.
PISMO BEACH – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
DOMINANT PLAY – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
TAP IN BIRDIE – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
Race 5: BHP Billiton McKinlay Cup Open Handicap 1800 metres:
1st – NEPTUNE EXPRESS 2nd – SECRETS 3rd – DON’T THINK DO 4th – MENELAION
DON’T THINK DO - When no other rider was available stewards permitted jockey T Chambers to ride the gelding 3kg over its declared weight.
KESTHIN – Was slow to begin.
INNER SILENCE – Raced wide from the 800m.
NEPTUNE EXPRESS – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
BUFFETT – Hung out throughout and proved difficult to ride. Trainer Mr G Tipping was told that prior to racing again the gelding would have to perform satisfactorily in an official trial. Mr G Tipping said that the gelding would now be retired.
BOLTON – When questioned regarding the poor performance jockey A Spradau explained that he attributed the poor performance to the fact that the gelding had to carry the heavy impost of 63kg and added that in his opinion after drawing barrier one he was obliged to race close to the rail where the going was inferior.
Race 6: Brodie Hardware Benchmark 55 Handicap 1000 metres:
1st – HOFFENHORRY 2nd – FOUAREE 3rd – DESERT SWEEP 4th – KINGS ROAD
COURT ACTION – Was fractious in the barriers.
KASEY CHELSEA – Raced wide from the 800m.
SPLASH OUT – Following the declaration of correct weight an application to have SPLASH OUT declared a non-runner after being denied a fair start was made by connections. Stewards ruled that although SPLASH OUT could not be declared a non-runner due to the fact that such application was made after correct weight had been given, it was established on the evidence and after viewing the patrol films that the gates on the barrier occupied by SPLASH OUT had to been slow to open resulting in the gelding missing the start by one length. Raced wide throughout.
