GENERAL

As apprentice Mckenzie Apel (illness) was not riding at today’s meeting due to illness, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Stewards approved the following overweights:
 
Race 5 – Tasha Chambers (+1kg)
Race 5 – Raul Silvera Olivera (+0.5kg)
Race 6 – Cody Collis (+1kg)
 
The following runners undertook a pre-race veterinary examination after having not competed at an official meeting in over twelve months: LITTLE PINKER (Race 4) & SHADOW PROJECT (Race 5)
 
Race 4 – MISS THE MUSIC – Stewards identified that this horse was listed incorrectly as a colt when it had in fact raced as a gelding at its first start at Townsville 13 December 2025.
 
 
RACE 1: SKY RACING QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
 
BARBARIAN KING – Jumped away awkwardly and bumped with BIG BARRY. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight and was inclined to lay inwards.

BIG BARRY – Impeded at the start when bumped by BARBARIAN KING.
 
COAL SEAM – Fractious in the barriers and then jumped away awkwardly. Impeded at the start when ANDERS KISS jumped outwards at the start.

ON LOCATION – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey Ashley Butler, when questioned, advised that he was instructed to ride forward and attempt to lead if possible and he was able to do so, however did have pressure applied during the middle stages and the gelding did not settle as well as anticipated as a result. Jockey Butler added that ON LOCATION was placed under pressure leaving the 600m and was then inclined to lay outwards and proved to be disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
ANDERS KISS – Shifted out on jumping and impeded COAL SEAM. Raced three wide throughout.
 
It was noted a number of runners baulked or shied at the crossing upon pulling up and the Club were requested to take remedial measures.
 
 
RACE 2: LADBROKES BIG BETS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES)
 
HEROIC ROCKET – Slow to begin. Bumped at the start by MISS MOLLY ROCKET.
 
MISS THE MUSIC – Jumped outwards at the start and impeded READY AND BETTA and soon after was impeded by BADLIFEDECISION, which was carried inwards. Raced keenly in the early stages.

READY AND BETTA – Fractious to load. Impeded at the start when MISS THE MUSIC jumped outwards. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BADLIFEDECISION – Bumped shortly the start with OUTCRY and was carried inwards and impeded MISS THE MUSIC.

MISS MOLLY ROCKET – Jumped away awkwardly and bumped with HEROIC ROCKET.

GIRLS GOT ATTITUDE – Fractious to load into the barriers. Bumped at the start with FOUR LEAF WONDER. Over raced in the early stages. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure over the final 150m.
 
OUTCRY – Shifted inwards shortly after the start bumping with BADLIFEDECISION.

FOUR LEAF WONDER – Bumped at the start with GIRLS GOT ATTITUDE. Held up for clear racing room in the home straight until near the 250m when shifted wider on the track.
 
 
RACE 3: LADBROKES MEGA MULTI QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES)
 
STELLAR LEGEND – Fractious in the barriers and then began awkwardly and was slow to begin.

BIG SMILE – Shifted out on jumping and bumped heavily with DAWSON DREAMER.

MARRERO – Raced keenly in the early stages.

ANTHROPOLOGY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

BELLAH’S HOPE – Awkwardly placed on the heels of RED ENVELOPE for a number of strides near the 900m.
 
LADY DE VEGA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after being very fractious on entering the course proper and was cleared to start.

MAGIC TYLA – Jumped away awkwardly.

RED ENVELOPE – Fractious in the barriers. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

DAWSON DREAMER – Shifted on jumping and bumped heavily with BIG SMILE. Raced ungenerously for some distance soon after the start. Jockey C Collis advised that the filly was very green and would derive benefit from further racing.

MARELLITY – When questioned in relation to the filly leading today, jockey Jackson Murphy advised that at her first start for the stable, MARELLITY was tardy away and endured very little luck in the run, however today, began exceptionally well and was able to then dictate terms in the lead.  Jockey Murphy further advised that it is intended that today’s racing pattern will be consistent moving forward.

CONFISERIE (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
RACE 4: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE 0-55 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
 
DIAMOND MONEY – Impeded soon after the start by PARTY FOR US which was carried outwards by LOST LAMB.

DALT JAZ – Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 50m was briefly inconvenienced when LITTLE PINKER shifted outwards. Jockey Ryan Wigging was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
RUM RUMBLE – Slow to begin. Checked near the 100m when ZAYA shifted out under pressure. Jockey Jackson Murphy pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) for carelessly allowing his mount to shift out under pressure near the 100m which resulted in RUM RUMBLE being checked for a number of strides. The license to ride in races of jockey Murphy was suspended for 8 days, with the suspension to commence midnight 4 January 2026 and to conclude midnight 12 January 2026.

HONOURBEFORE GLORY – Connections advised that if circumstances permitted the gelding would be ridden in a more conservative manner from an awkward barrier draw. Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin.
 
ZAYA – Shifted ground outwards under pressure over the final 200m.
 
HOT TORQUE INVEGAS – When questioned in relation to the performance trainer Lachie Manzelmann advised that he felt the drop into a suitable class race was beneficial to the mare.

LITTLE PINKER – Raced wide throughout.

ITHINKBETTA – Raced wide throughout.
 
PARTY FOR US – Bumped with LOST LAMB soon after the start. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

LOST LAMB – Bumped with PARTY FOR US soon after the start. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
 
RACE 5: LADBROKES BET TICKER CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1560 METRES)
 
HOT PURSUIT – Raced keenly in the early stages when wide on the track. Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

MORDECAI – Inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight.
 
SOUTHAVEN – Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
FIOREEN – Jumped away awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages.
 
REGAL JUDGEMENT – Shortly after the start shifted out and bumped with STAR CHANCE on a number of occasions. Over raced in the middle stages.

HE’S THE ONE – Connections advised that they intended to ride the gelding in a more positive manner from a favorable barrier. Jumped away awkwardly. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

OUTTA CONTROL – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride as a result. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout.

GRUMPYWANTSATISSUE – Slow to begin. Shifted outwards near the 450m to obtain clear racing.

SHADOW PROJECT – Jumped away awkwardly.

STAR CHANCE – Bumped with REGAL JUDGEMENT on a number of occasions soon after the start. Near the 1100m improved onto the heels of ANNA CHATABOX and shifted outwards and improved forward to race outside the leader near the 900m.

ANNA CHATABOX – Jockey Tasha Chambers advised that her saddle slipped near the 1300m placing her at a disadvantage throughout.
 
 
RACE 6: LABROKES PUNTER ASSIST BM55 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
 
THE PUNISHER – Connections advised that it is intended for the gelding to be ridden forward, circumstances permitted. Raced keenly in the early stages. Jockey Ryan Wiggins reported that when placed under pressure in the home straight the gelding failed to respond to his efforts and felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages resulting in him not placing his mount under pressure over the final 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

BITTER SPIRIT – Jumped away awkwardly and was impeded between AWESOME SPIRIT and MICROWAVE JENNY. Jockey Ashley Butler explained that after being impeded at the start the gelding settled further back than anticipated.

WHATTA WHITT – Jumped inwards at the start and impeded POWER CHIC. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
SADDLES – Slow to begin. Unable to obtain clear racing room in the home straight until a point approaching the 200m.

POWER CHIC – Jumped away awkwardly and was then impeded when WHATTA WHITT shifted in.

MICROWAVE JENNY – Shifted out at the start and impeded BITTER SPIRIT.

OUR HEART THROB – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

JOHN’S ROAD – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
RACE 7: SAFE & HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM MTC CLASS 2 PLATE (1200 METRES)
 
BIG DEMEANOR – Shifted inwards to trail MELO MELO KAVA near the 800m, resulting in REBELIOUS RED being tightened and checked for racing room. Held up for clear racing room in the early part of the home straight. Bumped by UNIFIES in the early peart of the home straight when that runner hung in.
 
NEW LEVEL (NZ) – Threw its head in the air at the start and lost ground.
 
REBELIOUS RED – Knuckled badly on jumping. Over raced in the early stages. Tightened and checked for room to the inside of BIG DEMEANOR when racing near the 800m. Jockey Ashvin Goindasamy pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) for carelessly shifting in near the 800m when insufficiently clear of REBELIOUS RED resulting in that runner being checked. The licence to ride in races was suspended for 7 days, with the suspension to commence midnight 4 January 2026 and conclude midnight 11 January 2026.
 
ZIPITALIST – Jumped away awkwardly and was then buffeted between UNIFIES and MELO MELO KAVA.

BOOM BOOM RAY – Trainer Tracy Simmons was reprimanded under AR106(1) for presenting the gelding with blinkers when not part of the listed gear. Threw its head in the air at the start. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
UNIFIES – Due to declared rider Sean Cormack falling ill during the day, stewards approved Cody Collis as the replacement rider. Sean Cormack was advised that a medical clearance would be required prior to him resuming riding. Bumped with ZIPITALIST at the start. Raced wide throughout. Hung in and bumped with BIG DEMEANOR in the early part of the home straight Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
LOOMING LEGEND – Unable to obtain clear racing room for the majority of the home straight.

MELO MELO KAVA – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
ATALA – Raced keenly in the early stages. Rider dropped whip approaching the 200m.

 
RACE 8: RACING AGAIN FRIDAY 13TH FEBRUARY CLASS 6 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
 
DEVIL DEVIL – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.

SCRUB CHAIN – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

OUR TURN NOW (NZ) – Fractious in the barriers. Jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride. Over raced in the early stages. Near the 1000m had to check from the heels of runners in front.
 
WOODSTOCK ROCK – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
TAKERU – Raced wide throughout.
 
ANSWERING – Raced wide in the early stages.
