GENERAL:
After the running of race 4 Trainer Mr Ben Waldron sought permission from Stewards to view the photo finish image of Race 2. Stewards heard Mr Waldron’s submission and took evidence from the Judges and viewed the image produced by the photo finish camera. Mr Waldron had then elected to vacate the Stewards room prior to a decision being made regarding this matter. In his absence, Stewards were satisfied with the judge’s decision and the original placing’s remained.
Race 1: LIGHT HORSE BRIGADE MAIDEN PLATE 1000M.
DARKNESS ABOVE - Was slow to begin and lost substantial ground.
MR SISSORHAND - Shifted ground and ran wide when approaching the 700M point.
GUNS N GUITARS - Stewards spoke to Jockey C. Bryen regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of his mount Guns N Guitars. Jockey C. Bryen stated that the horse didn’t travel well during any stage of the event. Trainer Mr W.Baker was not in attendance at today’s meeting and Stewards have requested that the Stable representative Mr Jesse Rogers inform Mr Baker to report to Stewards any health issues should they arise. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any significant findings.
Stewards reprimanded Jockey W. Doyle use of the whip prior to the 100metres of the event. Jockey Doyle stated the horse was laying in significantly and was responding well to the whip over the final stages. Stewards considered Jockey Doyle’s record in relation to this offence.
Race 2: LONE PINE QTIS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000M.
They start was delayed due to a number of fractious horses requiring assistance to the barrier by the clerk of the course.
SPINTHESONY- Became fractious upon entry to the track resulting in the rider being dislodged. To avoid a further delay the gelding was led riderless the barriers. Rider reported that after hampered at the start by another runner, the gelding failed to muster speed despite her efforts. Trainer R Fraser was advised that a warning would be placed on the pre race behaviour of Spinthesony.
PIPPA'S GIRL - Proved difficult to load. Shifted in abruptly shortly after the start making heavy contact with another runner. Jockey J Geppert was advised to exercise more care.
Correct weight was delayed as the Trainer of SPINTHESONY, Mr Raymond Fraser, sought permission to view the Stewards patrol film at the start of the race. After viewing the film, Mr Fraser was satisfied and stewards declared correct weight on the judges numbers semaphored.
Race 3: ANZAC COMMEMORATION THE CELEBRATION BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1000M.
NO OTHER WAY - Dwelt at the start and lost ground. Was forced wider on the track near the 700m by Crystal Mates, which shifted out. At a subsequent enquiry apprentice N. Morton, the rider of Crystal Mates, was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care when permitting her mount to shift ground.
On returning to scale Apprentice Jockey Ms G. Steele sought permission from Stewards not to weigh in for fifth position due to personal issues. Stewards accepted Ms Steele’s explanation and took no further action.
Race 4: GALLIPOLI LANDING CLASS B HANDICAP 1200M
SEEKING LOUIE was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 3:14pm on veterinary grounds. Stewards ordered that all monies wagered on Seeking Louie be refunded in full with the following deductions applicable to bets placed prior to 3:14pm:
0c in the dollar for the win # 3 (FABLED DOMAIN)
7c in the dollar for the place of winner # 3 (FABLED DOMAIN)
11c in the dollar for 2nd place # 4 (I’M MAKING A CLANG)
13c in the dollar for 3rd place # 7(MIRFAK)
The stable representative for Seeking Louie, Mr Jesse Rogers, was advised a Veterinary Clearance was required prior to the horse’s next start.
SWEENEY - Jumped in and made heavy contact with another runner.
STREAMS OF WHISKEY - Was tightened for room at the start.
MIRFAK - Travelled wide during the early and middle stages of the event.
Race 5: FLANDERS FIELDS CLASS 3 PLATE 1200M
Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey J. Geppert, the rider of 2nd place getter Northern Magic, the opportunity to view the photo finish image. After viewing the image, Jockey Geppert was satisfied with the placing’s and stewards declared correct weight on the judges numbers semaphored.
ROYAL REWARD - Stood flat footed as the gates opened and lost significant ground. Reared in the mounting yard dislodging Apprentice N. Morton. Ms Morton re mounted the horse without any further incident. Stewards spoke with Trainer of ROYAL REWARD Mr John Paterson regarding the horse dislodging Ms Morton in the mounting yard. Stewards accepted Mr Paterson’s explanation and took no further action regarding that incident.
BOLD INTERLUDE - Missed the start.
Race 6: PASSCHENDAELE BATTLEFIELD BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1400M
CRAWFISH - Jumped in and made contact with another runner.
FINNIGANS FOLLY – Bumped by another runner at the start and lost ground. Travelled wide for the majority of the event.
