Race 1: New Citizen QTIS Maiden Plate 1123 metres:
1st – DRAGON HART 2nd – JUMBO RUMBO 3rd – MONASHEE LASS 4th – LADY’S GATHERING
Stewards accepted the explanations put forward by trainers Mr. S Cooper and Mr. J Manzelmann for the late declaration of riders for BLAZING JIM and RAPON NICCI respectively.
LADY’S GATHERING – Fractious in the barriers.
CLASSIC BURLESQUE – Raced ungenerously passing the 900 metres.
BLAZING JIM – Commenced to race keenly passing the 700 metres.
ZARIZMA – Inclined to lay in under pressure approaching the winning post.
Race 2: Citizen Of The Year Class B Handicap 1210 metres:
1st – DIVIDED 2nd – SWEET ASA ROSE 3rd – BEARIZAN 4th – SCHNELLES PFERD
DIVIDED – Difficult to load.
DAZZLING LADY – Jockey K Stone was severely reprimanded under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in when not quite clear of CHRISTMAS VAMPIRE (App. N Yadi) which had to be checked.
Race 3: Mareeba Mazda Class 1 Handicap 900 metres:
1st – ISADOR AMORE 2nd – EXPEL 3rd – DOCTOR TREV 4th – JOKES ASEIDE
MOCKBA – Stood flat-footed and missed the start. Trainer Mr. T Rowe advised stewards post-race that the gelding would be retired immediately. Notwithstanding this advice Mr. Rowe was advised that the gelding would be required to obtain two (2) barrier certificates before being permitted to race again.
ISADOR AMORE – Began awkwardly, bumping with another runner.
LILLABELLE – Lost ground at the start after bumping with another runner. Jockey J Felix reported that the mare was inclined to hang throughout.
Race 4: Color Studio Benchmark 55 Handicap 1500 metres:
1st – MAKOSSA 2nd – KING OF THEBES 3rd – MISHANI PAGAN 4th – STANDFORD
SIDADA – Lost ground at the start when crowded between runners.
STANDFORD – Raced keenly early, refusing to settle. Made contact with another runner passing the 1400 metres.
SPIN AGAIN – Raced keenly early. Steadied off heels passing the 1100 metres.
ZIGURAT – Forced to steady off heels passing the 1100 metres.
BANDIDAS – Inconvenienced down the running when awkwardly placed on heels.
ARMY OF ONE – App. N Yadi advised stewards that the gelding had failed to handle the track conditions and was not comfortable in the going at any stage.
Race 5: Mareeba Shire Australia Day Trophy Benchmark 70 Handicap 1210 metres:
1st – CHATEAU DETTORI 2nd – KING MAGNUSSON 3rd – DE LA SOUL 4th – ARONSON
DESTRUCTION – Raced fiercely in the early stages. Jockey S. Pawsey stated that the gelding, which performed below market expectations had failed to respond when asked for an effort on straightening. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr. F Weiland when contacted the following morning advised stewards that although the gelding had appeared to have recovered well, he expected that it would take improvement from the race which was its first outing in more than a year.
