Swab Attendant – P Williams

Race 1: Mareeba Shire Council QTIS Maiden Plate 1010 metres:
1st – DECLAN STYLE 2nd – RED SHAWL 3rd – WAR SHADOW 4th – DRAGON TALE

TURBO DIESEL – Began awkwardly. Commenced to race greenly near the 400 metres and soon after was taken in marginally by another runner which shifted in.

WAR SHADOW - Jumped in at the start crowding another runner. Had to be restrained near the home turn when inconvenienced by another runner which shifted in when racing greenly.

THE HURRICANE – Lost ground on jumping when crowded by another runner.

RED SHAWL – Shifted in near the 400 metres, taking another runner in marginally. Was quickly straightened.

DRAGON TALE – Was caught wide without cover in the early stages.

On returning to scale Jockey G Watson, the rider of 3rd placegetter WAR SHADOW, lodged a protest against 2nd placegetter RED SHAWL, ridden by P Cullen, alleging interference near the 400 metres. After hearing evidence and viewing patrol footage, Stewards although acknowledging that RED SHAWL had shifted in at this point, were of the opinion that the inconvenience suffered by WAR SHADOW had been, in the main, caused by TURBO DIESEL, ridden by F Edwards which was racing greenly to the direct outside of WAR SHADOW. Consequently Stewards dismissed the protest and declared Correct Weight on the semaphored numbers.

Race 2: Colour Studio Class B Handicap 1210 metres:
1st – JUMBO RUMBO 2nd – BUSH VERSION 3rd – NANYUKI 4th – SECRETS OWN

SERIKOS FLYER – Was very slowly into stride after jumping awkwardly.

MONSOON TWISTER – Shifted in abruptly shortly after the start inconveniencing another runner. Was quickly straightened.

BUSH VERSION – Was inconvenienced shortly after the start when taken in across heels by another runner which shifted in abruptly. Was caught wide without cover in the middle stages.

JUMBO RUMBO – Was caught wide without cover in the early stages.

NANYUKI – Was inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages.

BLAZING ALLY – Was held up for clear running for a short distance near the 150 metres.

WILD DIVA – Was held up for clear running for a short distance near the 100 metres.

Stewards delayed the announcement of Correct Weight after Jockey P Cullen, the rider of 2nd placegetter BUSH VERSION, made application to view patrol footage of the early stages of the event with a view to a possible protest against 1st placegetter JUMBO RUMBO ridden by App. Ms. K Aho. After viewing the footage Jockey Cullen decided not to proceed with the objection and Stewards declared Correct Weight on the semaphored numbers.

Race 3: Mareeba Mazda/Mitsubishi Benchmark 60 Handicap 1123 metres:
1st – SCHNELLES PFERD 2nd – KISSER 3rd – GLADIUS 4th – ROAD FOX

Race 4: Riverside Caravan Park Benchmark 50 Handicap 1500 metres:
1st – KATTER 2nd – PENTHOUSE POPPY 3rd – WICKED THOUGHTS 4th – BIG TOMEE

WICKED THOUGHTS – Began awkwardly.

IDLE SITUATION – Was slowly away after beginning awkwardly. App. N Nelson reported that the gelding had never travelled comfortably in the soft track conditions.

BIG TOMEE – Was slowly away after slipping at the start. Jockey P Cullen reported that the gelding had raced ungenerously after getting its tongue back near the 800 metres. Trainer Mr. J Williams advised Stewards that the gelding would race with a tongue control at future starts.

Race 5: Mareeba Shire First Team Open Handicap 900 metres:
1st – RAPT IN RUMBA 2nd – BO ROSSA 3rd – EREBUS 4th – GENERAL BEEJAY

The start of this event was delayed to enable the removal of a large mob of wallabies from the infield.

BO ROSSA - Lost ground when crowded between runners shortly after the start.
