GENERAL
When asked to explain the reason for SANBANO and LISTENTOZOU(NZ) being scratched from Race 6 today: STJ EARTHMOVING MM/ROB KOCH MEMORIAL/FNQ
UP & COMING STAYERS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1800 Metres, Co -Trainer Mr P. Rowe stated SANBANO on arriving at the stables this morning was found to
have a large amount of discharge from its nostrils and was scratched on veterinary advice, a vetrinary certificate was provided. LISTENTOZOU(NZ) had been nominated
at the Oak Park meeting over 1600 metres Saturday 5 July 2025, however with the concerns of that meeting proceeding it was nominated for Townsville on Sunday 6 July
2025 over 1400 metres. With the transfered meeting for Mareeba becoming an option consideration was given for LISTENTOZOU to compete there over 1800 metres,
however after further consideration it was decided the horse would be better suited over the shorter distance of 1400 metres at Townsville. His explanations was noted.
Due to a mechanical breakdown of a transport truck with a number of horses involved, all races were put back as follows: Race 1 – 1.40pm, Race 2 – 2.15pm, Race 3 –
2.50pm, Race 4 – 3.25pm, Race 5 – 4.00pm and Race 6 at 4.30pm. All horses, BLUE STEEL, ASSYMETRY, YOUWANNAPEACHOFME, NOBLE ATTACK, THE HOME
TEAM and BOOGIE WONDERLAND which were associated with the matter, all underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and were cleared to start.
Race 1: MAREEBA MAZDA RATINGS BAND 0 - 50 HANDICAP – 1010 Metres
ASSYMETRY – As the gelding had not raced for an extended period it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
FIND MY CALM – Connections advised instructions would be issued to be positive from the barriers from its good barrier. Was ridden accordingly.
BLUE STEEL – Delayed the start when fractious during its parade to the barriers and proved difficult to load. Trainer A. Bailey was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings parading and barriers manners. Began awkwardly and lost ground.
ASAMBE – Slow into stride.
DESERT GRIT – Slow into stride.
MAKANUI – Steadied when racing in restricted room leaving the 900 metres and then had a tendency to over-race in the early stages. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
BEAN WARRIOR – Restrained leaving the 900 metres and shifted in crowding MAKANUI when placed in restricted room by SOWILO SIREN which shifted in when improving forward. Raced wide in the early stages.
SOWILO SIREN – Shifted in leaving the 900 metres placing BEAN WARRIOR and MAKANUI in restricted room. Rider apprentice T. Leslight was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear in similar circumstances.
Race 2:GREGG CONSTRUCTIONS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1123 Metres
ZOOMALISCIOUS – Was declared a late scratching at 2.17pm when refused to load. All monies invested on ZOOMALISCIOUS were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetter prior to 2.17pm:
19 cents in the dollar for the win YOUWANNAPEACHOFME
19 cents in the dollar for the place of winner YOUWANNAPEACHOFME
20 cents in the dollar for 2nd place LICHFIELD ANGEL
Trainer L. Terzi was advised a further barrier certificate must be obtained prior to the filly being permitted to race again.
WICKED RED SOCKS – Slow to begin.
YOUWANNAPEACHOFME – Slow into stride. Laid out rounding the home turn and was steadied. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
LICHFIELD ANGEL – Laid out near the 250 metres bumping BEAUTIFUL LIES on the hindquarters which became unbalanced. Trainer A. Malliff was advised a warning would be placed on the filly’s racing manners.
BEAUTIFUL LIES – Bumped on the hindquarters near the 250 metres and was unbalanced.
Race 3:CIBI & RAY BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP – 1210 Metres
THE HOME TEAM – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
FIVE BULLS – Slow to begin. Restrained off heels near the 700 metres
SWEET CANDY – Shifted in approaching the 100 metres brushing AGLOT.
NOBLE ATTACK – Slow into stride. Laid in under pressure leaving the 100 metres. Apprentice M. Goring was advised to show greater care when his mount was shifting ground.
AGLOT – Tightened for room near the 100 metres and was checked.

ELSPHERE – Shifted in near the 100 metres when being urged forward when not fully clear of AGLOT which was checked. Raced wide for the majority of the race. Apprentice K. Swaffer in the presence of apprentice riding master Mr Carl Spry, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the specifics of AR 131(a) in that she failed to make sufficient effort to prevent ELSPHERE from shifting in when not fully clear of AGLOT which was checked. Ms Swaffer’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 days to commence midnight Saturday 5 July 2025 and expire midnight 11 July 2025. When considering penalty stewards took into account her exemplary record in regard to this rule and her guilty plea. Ms Swaffer was advised of her appeal rights. Raced wide for the majority of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a laceration to its off-hind leg consistent with being galloped on. Co trainer P. Rowe was advised a veterinary certificate of soundness must be provided prior to ELSPHERE racing or trialling again.
BOMBINATE – Shifted in under pressure approaching the winning post brushing with NAPOLEON STRIKE.
NAPOLEON STRIKE – Brushed approaching the winning post.
Race 4:AMB CIVIL CONSTRUCTIONS OPEN HANDICAP – 1210 Metres
RISING – Slow to begin.
LIDDER VALLEY – Began awkwardly and was hampered shortly after the start.
DEVIL KICK – Shifted out when being urged forward shortly after the start hampering LIDDER VALLEY. Rider R. Shred was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.
NO LOVE LOST – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
Race 5:RUSSO MEATS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP – 1500 Metres
SHE'S A MISSION – Connections advised instructions would be issued for the mare to be ridden conservatively with circumstances permitting. Ridden accordingly. Raced ungenerously in the early stages when being restrained.
PICCAPEPPA – Slow to begin.
REDAVNI – Raced keenly in the early stages.
LOOK AT ROSA – Over-raced in the early stages.
DEAL AN ACE – On returning to scale apprentice L. Guernier advised stewards it was not her intention to lead however after beginning well and obtaining the lead the gelding raced strongly, and she was unable to restrain DEAL AN ACE.
Race 6:STJ EARTHMOVING MM/ROB KOCH MEMORIAL/FNQ UP & COMING STAYERS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1800 Metres
OLYMPIC KORCHNOI (BRZ) – Connections advised instructions would be to lead if circumstances permitted. Ridden accordingly.
