GENERAL
Due to the limited number of riders available at the meeting, all races were conducted with reduced rider resources, with the following horses being scratched due to there being no available rider, or no rider willing to accept the engagement.
R1: OUTCAST SOLDIER
R2: SWAMP NATION
R3: UP TO US; ROCK ON ANGEL; BUSTERKICK; FORTUNAS GIRL; MISS THE MUSIC.
R4: DANCE WIZARD; VONK; TRICKETEER.
R5: PARISIENNE PIPER; CHAPARRAL CHASE; THREEFOLD.
RACE 1: GET WELL SOON SHANE RATINGS BAND 0 - 50 HANDICAP 1100 M
MAKANUI – travelled wide throughout; brushed with I’M OPINIONATED rounding the final turn.
I’M OPINIONATED – lay out rounding the final turn and brushed with MAKANUI.
POLLY HOFFA – travelled wide throughout.
RACE 2: IF YOU WISH TO DONATE TO MCGOVERNS CONTACT MT ISA RACE CLUB OPEN HANDICAP 1100 M
LAST DITCH EFFORT – travelled 3-wide throughout; lay out rounding the final turn. When questioned regarding the run of LAST DITCH EFFORT, which performed below market expectations, rider Ms. Brooke Stower could offer no tangible explanation.
FORTRESS AUSTRALIA – travelled wide throughout.
RACE 3: GET TRACKSIDE FOR 2UP NEXT WEEKEND QTIS CLASS B HANDICAP 1200 M
BUZ FUZ – travelled wide throughout.
LEUCAENA – fractious behind the barriers; began awkwardly and slow away however recovered quickly to drive forward to lead; lost near front plate during the running.
BROTHER BRETT – rider Nor Yadi was firmly reminded of his obligations with respect to his use of the whip on a horse not in contention.
RACE 4: SPORTSBET BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1200 M
MISTER MODERATION – travelled wide throughout.
PANDA DRUM – permission was granted for the pacifiers to be removed for today’s race; lost contact with the field in the early stages and despite rider Cecily Eaton’s urgings, settled some distance from the leaders. However, after leaving the 600 metres PANDA DRUM commenced to recover the ground lost, and finished the race off well. When questioned, rider Ms. Cecily Eaton stated that in her opinion the gelding had been unsuited to today’s 1,200 metres and was better suited to a longer distance.
RACE 5: CITY & COUNTRY REALTY CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 M
AFFIRMATIVE LIGHT – rider Ms. Brooke Stower reported that her saddle started to shift leaving the 100 metres placing her at a disadvantage.
CUP OF AMBITION – blundered on jumping losing ground and settling well back.
COMBS – Rider Ms. Cecily Eaton was spoken to regarding her whip use in the final straight where, while her use was found to be within the permissible limits, it was however to be at the upper threshold of the guidelines. Ms. Eaton was advised that any similar use in future may place her at risk of breaching the provisions of AR132.
