Amended starting times
When the thoroughbred racing meeting set down for Geraldton today was postponed, the schedule of starting times for races 5, 6 and 7 at Rockhampton was amended as follows: Race 5 at 1558 p.m.; Race 6 at 1638 p.m.; Race 7 at 1718 p.m.
Race 1: Banchory Thoroughbreds QTIS 3-Y-O Maiden Handicap - 1100 metres
1st DRAGON HUNTER 2nd METEOR'S MAN 3rd WAR NOISE 4th - SUPERIOR DRAGON
JAMAICA DOLLAR - As Jockey A. Coome was to be overweight, Jockey R. McMahon was substituted as the rider of the gelding. Jockey Coome was fined $100 under A.R. 120(b).
SUPERIOR DRAGON - Trainer Ms N. Mccall advised stewards that she would instruct Jockey G. Geran to take up a position midfield with cover, as the gelding was having its first start her stable. Was a little slow to begin and then was hampered when METEOR'S MAN shifted out. Near the 900 metres commenced to over-race, and in the middle stages raced ungenerously. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
METEOR'S MAN - Following the race the rider reported that the gelding may have been galloped on and veterinary inspection revealed a graze to its near fore coronet.
WAR NOISE - Made contact with another runner at the start. When the pace steadied near the 800 metres the gelding was steadied, resulting in REGGIE ROCKET shifting out and away, taking BOOMTOWN BOY out onto SUPERIOR DRAGON.
RUBY'S OWNERS - Contacted another runner at the start.
WHAT A STAR - Raced wide throughout.
BOOMTOWN BOY - Raced wide throughout.
MOSTLY LUCKY - Commenced to hang out from the 900 metres and continued to do so until straightening. Trainer L. Rowe was advised that a warning will be placed on the filly's racing manners.
Race 2: Queensland Trainers Association BM 65 Handicap - 1500 metres
1st LEO'S SPIRIT 2nd MANILA ACADEMY 3rd MAUGHAN 4th - MAGIC WALTZ
SAFE WORLD - When leaving the enclosure made significant contact on its off hind rump on the enclosure gate. After arriving behind the barriers the gelding was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.
ZHUHAI - Was a late scratching, at 12.55 p.m., by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice.
MANILA ACADEMY - Stewards questioned Jockey Dale Evans regarding his riding of the gelding in the early stages. He stated that after beginning only fairly, he had eased shortly after the start with the intention of allowing CRAIGLEA COPPER to obtain the lead, however when that runner was steadied SAFE WORLD obtained the lead and the pace increased, he was able to gain a midfield position.
MAUGHAN - When questioned regarding the performance, rider stated that near 1200 metres the gelding was eased from heels and obtained a position one out from the running rail. She added that the gelding had raced only fairly at its previous start, was having its third start in 3 weeks and may not have been suited by the pace of the event. Stewards will follow up the matter with the horse's trainer.
Race 3: City Printing Works Maiden Plate - 1400 metres
1st GEMINI KING 2nd DIOXIDES 3rd BREATH OF TERA 4th - APPLE TREE CREEK

OUTBACK LIGHTNING - Near the 900 metres shifted in, forcing CRACKER NIGHT to steady. Rider App. R. Payne was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.
Race 5: Rockhampton Mayor’s Cup Class 6 Plate - 1200 metres
1st PLAYTIME 2nd LANSDOWNE ROAD 3rd DASH FOR VIZ 4th - CASINO BENJO
CASINO BENJO - The declaration of correct weight was delayed whilst Jockey A. Butler and trainer J. Pointon, connections of the 5th placegetter, CASINO BENJO, viewed the photo finish image and the official patrol films. Having done so, they lodged an objection against NOT TOO SURE, ridden by Jockey G. Geran, being declared 4th, alleging interference from the 300 metres. After taking evidence from the parties concerned, viewing the official video films and taking into account their own observations, stewards established that near the 250 metres NOT TOO SURE shifted out, which caused CASINO BENJO to be taken out onto DASH FOR VIZ and in the run to the finish had shifted out further. Stewards also took into account the margin of a nose between the two runners at the finish. Accordingly, the protest was upheld and correct was declared on the amended placings as follows: 1st, PLAYTIME; 2nd, LANSDOWNE ROAD; 3rd, DASH FOR VIZ; 4th, CASINO BENJO. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey G. Geran was reprimanded for shifting ground when not completely clear.
