As apprentice M Apel was not riding at the meeting due to injury, rider replacements were permitted as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Miss Apel is required to provide a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.

Overweight permitted as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Stewards commenced an inquiry surrounding the circumstances of the late scratching of OBLIGATED from race four. This matter was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed upon receipt of results of samples collected from OBLIGATED.

HE'S POPLAR – Began awkwardly and shifted inwards bumping SHOW ‘EM NORN.

SNOW SHOW (NZ) – Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

RUM RUMBLE – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SHOW 'EM NORM – Bumped on jumping away by HE’S POPLAR.

CHECK ONE TWO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the 100m improved onto the heels of the weakening RUM RUMBLE and had to alter course. Apprentice J Williams was reminded of his obligation to ride his mount out fully to the finish. In adopting this approach, stewards could not be satisfied that any lack of action on behalf of the rider had a bearing on the finishing position of CHECK ONE TWO.

HADMYTIME – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin.

Race 2: TAB QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP  1400 M

ASK ME MATE – Held up for clear running between the 600m and the 500m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ROTHFURY – Trainer W Satherley advised that due to the wide barrier draw the gelding would likely be ridden further back in the field by comparison to being handy to the speed. Retrained after the start and settled at the rear of the field. Commenced to over race leaving the 800m and approaching the 700m had to check from the heels of ASK ME MATE resulting in SOUTHAVEN being inconvenienced. Held up for clear running from the 600m until inside the 400m and was then shifted wider to obtain a clear run.

ALPINE RAIDER – Raced three wide throughout.

BILLY BOOM – Raced wide until the 900m. When questioned regarding the performance apprentice J Williams stated he was of the view that the gelding travelled relatively well but failed to finish the race off as expected. Apprentice Williams further added that BILLY BLOOM may not have run out a strong 1400m and may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer D Hansen advised that it was his intention to spell the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery and the gelding was showing clinical signs of thumps.

SOUTHAVEN – Began awkwardly. Inconvenienced and carried wider near the 700m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ROYAL GLADIATOR – Jockey G Cartwright advised that upon jumping the nose roll on the gelding broke, however she did feel it had any detrimental impact on her mount’s performance.

ROARING SUCCESS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

HVARDANCE – Bumped on jumping by MISS RINEHART.

MISS DE BOOM – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

PAPASITO – Jockey J Stanley, when questioned regarding the performance stated that once he was unable to lead his mount failed to travel well throughout and proved to be disappointing. Jockey Stanley further added that in the past the gelding has also proved disappointing in similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

Race 6: DIAGEO PTY LTD CLASS 3 HANDICAP         1300  M

LOOSE UNIT – Began awkwardly and shifted inwards contacting ME TIME. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Placed awkwardly on the heels of EL OF A SENORITA close to the finish when that runner shifted in. Jockey R Wiggins (EL OF A SENORITA) was reprimanded under AR131(a) for carelessly allowing his mount to shift in at this point. In not taking further action stewards were of the view that when EL OF A SENORITA originally commenced to shift inwards it was clear of the runner to its inside.
