SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

MACKAY 5TH JUNE 2025 – Race 8 RACING AGAIN FRIDAY 27 JUNE OPEN HANDICAP 1200m
Stewards conducted an inquiry into an incident from the Mackay meeting held on the 5th June 2025, where in the vicinity of the 1000m in race 9, FLYING SHAMUS, ridden by apprentice N Olzard, had to check to avoid the heels of HELLISH (jockey J Stanley), which was dictated inwards by YOUR TOO GOOD (apprentice T Fenlon). Apprentice Fenlon pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding in that near the 1000m, she permitted her mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of HELLISH, dictating that runner inwards when insufficiently clear of FLYING SHAMUS, resulting in that runner being crowded and checked, losing its rightful running as a result. Apprentice Fenlon’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days, with the suspension commencing midnight 12th July 2025 and to conclude midnight 21st July 2025. Apprentice Fenlon was advised of her rights to appeal.

Jockey McIver’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, with the suspension to commence midnight 12th July 2025 and to conclude midnight 19th July 2025. Jockey C McIver, rider of 5th placegetter PREPOTENT, weighed in 1kg under his declared riding weight, stewards acting under the provisions of AR209(2)(a), disqualified PREPOTENT from the race and the placings were amended accordingly. At inquiry, it was established that trainer J Kuhn was the person responsible for the horse failing to carry the correct weight after it was identified that trainer Kuhn had left a piece of saddle packing off when saddling the gelding. Trainer Kuhn pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR106(1) for negligence in saddling in that she failed to add the packing provided by jockey McIver. Trainer Kuhn was fined $700.
