SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS

ROCKHAMPTON 31ST JULY 2026
Race 8 – BURKE IN STYLE BENCKMARK 65 HANDICAP 1400M
ASK ME MATE – Stewards concluded an inquiry into the tactics adopted by apprentice Steph Tierney on ASK ME MATE, in particular during the middle stages of the event. Stewards took initial evidence on the day of the meeting from apprentice Tierney, in the presence of senior jockey Chris McIver. Stewards also examined the wagering data on the race in question, which revealed no matters of concern. Apprentice Tierney advised that her instructions were from the wide barrier 14, attempt to obtain a handy position if possible, avoid being caught wide, whilst allowing the gelding to roll forward and settle comfortably. Apprentice Tierney further stated that in the early stages she attempted to restrain ASK ME MATE, however the gelding commenced to overrace and pull fiercely, and was unsuccessful in her attempts. Stewards also spoke with trainer Jamie McConachy. Trainer McConachy added that, on the advice of a previous rider, winkers had been reapplied to the gelding, and it had been worked in that gear leading into the event. This was in an attempt to assist with its racing manners, where the gelding had previously hesitated in its races and been reluctant to take runs between horses. Trainer McConachy also added that ASK ME MATE had a propensity to pull hard when it had overraced. Stewards also reviewed the gelding’s previous starts. After considering all of the evidence and reviewing the available replays, stewards could not be satisfied to the requisite standard that apprentice Tierney’s ride constituted a breach of the rules. In reaching that view, stewards took into account apprentice Tierney’s relative inexperience as an apprentice and the gelding’s racing manners. Stewards were satisfied that apprentice Tierney had made efforts to restrain her mount when it commenced to overrace in the early stages, including again near the 900m, however the gelding continued to pull strongly, with her attempts to restrain the gelding between the 1200m to the 800m evident in her riding actions and body posture. Stewards nonetheless reminded apprentice Tierney of her obligation to ride in a manner that does not invite stewards’ scrutiny in future.

ROCKHAMPTON FRIDAY 2ND OCTOBER 2026
Race 6 – GET LAST TICKETS FOR CAULFIELD CUP BM70 HANDICAP 1200M

Race 7 – BELMORA PARK BM65 HANDICAP 1400M
ROYAL ARMADA – Trainer Tim Cook advised stewards that, following its last start, when the gelding pulled up distressed, it had shown no further signs of that condition. Trainer Cook further advised that ROYAL ARMADA has since left his stable and is no longer under his care..

EMERALD SATURDAY 10TH OCTOBER 2026
